    Great advice, just waiting for my 6.5" Memphis Shades for my RG. Another simple and huge help for 1/2 helmet riders of the RG is open your upper fairing vent...calms the helmet buffering big time with a stock windshield. 🇨🇦✌️

    Coming from a Mid-range cruiser to a full bagger the wind difference is amazing. With that said the the wind shield makes a world of difference. Good pointers Rick! 👊🇺🇸

    Good summary of the wind buffeting effects and potential resolutions mate.
    After a long trip to Tasmania at the end of 2019 on our Road King Specials, and being hit hard by wind and rain I decided to move to my Street Glide Special for some form of protection.
    My Street Glide Special has never had the stock screen on it, I had a Klockwerks screen put on it straight away.
    My custom screen, in combination with my Shoei GT Air II helmet gives me all the protection and comfort that I need. ✌️

    Great video and yes buffeting can be really annoying. Like you said recurve on shield helps a lot. I got one from LRS it is cheaper but I believe Memphis Shade is better quality from what I researched in the past.

    Great video Rick ! Wind buffeting can definitely be a bugger. My bike has an electric windshield (clear) which allows me to play with it on the go. As you mentioned, I also noticed that the sweet spot is by nose height however in case of bad weather (cold or rain) I will raise it all the way up covering almost my entire helmet. Memphis shades definitely makes a much better product than the OEM. Cheers 🍻 amigo. Eddie

    Stumbled on your channel researching the buffeting and shopping for a windshield. I wear a half helmet on the everyday rides and a modular/full face on overnight trips but those trips are not often so I’m desperately looking to solve this buffeting issue for my everyday rides.
    Everything I’ve read is go “taller taller taller”! I too go for the look!! I just ordered a LRS 10 inch thinking that will solve my problem… not from them so I could return vs exchange. I’m ordering the Memphis shades 6.5 as well - I’ll let you know how it works out - great info! Thanks so much !!

    The 1st upgrade I did on my street glide special was to get a Klock Werks windshield. The stock windshield looked cool but the Klock Werks did the job of stopping the buffeting. I would guess all of these aftermarket windshields with the flip do about the same job.

      Certainly wind is always a factor on a motorcycle. One of the best parts of riding until the wind is unstable of creates buffeting. That's what I try to avoid if I can. Ok, so he's promoting Menphis Shades wind screens, is he expected to say anything else? What about Klock Works, Long Riders, Mad Stad, etc... In fact, he is wrong! Wind in your face is wind in your face. By his logic a tall wind shield is all you need. The buffeting is cause by back-draft. Air filling up the void between the wind screen and the area surrounding the rider. The air will swirl around and behind the rider banging off the back of his head. That is why all major touring bike manufacturers install a vent in or near the dash or front faring to try and compensate for the back pressure. All things considered; this is a marketing video not a video on buffeting!

    I just bought a 2022 RG special (coming off a 2016 Ultra Classic). I’m really struggling to find a windshield that works for my wife. I’ve tried a LRS stingray 10” Thresher 10” and a klock werks tour pro 12”. The klock werks worked much better for her but is to tall to comfortably see over. I just ordered a Memphis Shades 10”.
    I’m hearing that the RG fairing just doesn’t work as well as a batwing for passengers. I’m seriously consider trading the bike in for a Ultra Classic. Any recommendations appreciated. Thanks, really enjoyed the video.

    • @HDVIBE
      @HDVIBE  2 роки тому

      I hope the taller memphis shades works better for your wife. Ms HDVIBE has not yet ridden on the RGS with me yet, so I don't have any real world suggestions. I do know when she rides on the back of the SGS, I have to put on a taller windshield to push the air up over her head as the rear pillion sits the passenger up higher than the rider. Thanks for watching and commenting. Ride safe and enjoy the ride. 👊👍

      Hi Rick, in your opinion what bike of yours is the least turbulent at highway speeds? I’ve exhausted all options on my ‘13 RG including 4 different windscreens with same results of blurred vision above 60mph. I hear ppl have issues even w new bikes w vents. Fork deflectors is the #1 fix most cases ppl say but looking to trade for newer model. Any advice is appreciated

    • @HDVIBE
      @HDVIBE  2 роки тому

      With the vents in the fairing, both the Street Glide Special and Road Glide Special are about even in terms of highway speeds. The vent has the effect of balancing the air pressure coming over the windshields thereby creating stable air. I've ridden both bikes at pretty high speeds and with heavy with and I don't get much if any buffeting. Helmets can make a bike difference as well. I run the HJC RPHA 90 which is pretty aerodynamic and quiet. I definiteky get more wind in the Road King Special, but even at high speeds with the Wind Splitter shield with the vent, its pretty good too. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Hi, Rick. I'm curious as to the most effective windshield you've used on your RKS? I plan to buy one soon and am 5'9". Like you, I prefer a very minimal look. On my '21 Street Bob, I have a Dart "Marlin", which is 11" and it keeps the wind off my chest, which is all I care about. As long as it's off my chest, I don't mind wind in and around my head. I love the look of your Windsplitter; although wonder if you like it the best on your RKS or if you've found a model that's even more effective? Thanks, man.

    Regarding your helmet - when turning your head to the right to view your blind spot from a left lane, lets say at about 85 mph or so, how dies your head feel in your helmet? I can barely turn my head when on highways. I also have no Harley and no faring or windshield.
    Instead I drive my 1979 CB750 Honda with 0 to 60 in under 4,.5 seconds
    btw: I just repaired my Typhoon full face, as two screws from the visor disappeared in this last trip - ua-cam.com/video/3Gd5NgjhKh8/v-deo.html
