I have been visiting Thailand flor more than 25 years and I got family there as well. I can surely say that, from all the videos around about Thailand, your channel is one of the very few depicting Thailand as it is -its past and present, culture, religion, society- without nonsense. Sofitel hotel is a great place for a beer, at the rooftop bar. I used to visit place frequently. Westin's lounge is also another relaxing place for drinks, and after that I get to play pool at the nearby bars.

Thanks! Often when you book a hotel and have never been to the area you may regret commiting to booking too many nights if you don't like where it is, and Nana is not everyone's cup of tea.
@@BangkokPat I guess the tipping point was sitting in a taxi for an hour on my way back from MBK or my tailor to East Bangkok all the time. As you suggest, Nana isn't really me but you have to see it once. My Thai friend is an exec with a major hotel and I think she takes it personally when I don't stay there. They treat me like royalty when I arrive and it is difficult to resist. It's an art form to decline or say 'no' in Thai - worthy of a video in itself.
Soi 11 is a good place to stay. It has lots of places to eat and it's near the more busy parts of the area, but slightly removed. You can use the Nana BTS station to cross Sukhumvit Road which gives you clear access to Soi 8. There's an elevator just inside the walkway to the Q building that will take you back down to street level.
Was gonna get ribs to take away the other night but didn't fancy waiting and it was busy, I do intend to, we could do a video as I've mentioned it and showed in in about 3 videos already!

Spent a month there in 2016 mostly traveling north into chaing mai and Mae hong son loop etc etc. Made massive use of the train and stopped in many areas while traveling north... was a blast.. motorbiked through the loop in Mae hong son beautiful ride. Hi Pat: Great post. After what will be three years of the 'no fly' we have had plenty of time to plan our next visit, and we had chosen soi 10 a year ago due to its access to the park. We used to stay closer to Queen's Park and would walk there every morning, but Benjakitti provides a much bigger loop that we have taken advantage of for a couple of years. And my favourite 'gold guy' is right on the corner of Suk 10.
I like to have a 'street beer.'- A cold Cheers Xtra from 7-eleven and drink it on the street! My favourite spot for years has been the parking places opposite Dets Soi8. There are many other places to enjoy a drink while soaking up the BKK atmosphere, and so long as you are discrete no one seems offended. Thanks for the video.

Another great production. I tend to stay in this area and during my recent six week stay, I had accommodation on soi's 18,10 & 19. On soi 10 I stayed at Center Pointe with a great view of Benjakki, which I walked every morning while there.
Loved the video especially highlighting Suda on there. When our team comes up from Singapore for the GAS football tournament that is a must visit. Looking forward to a quick holiday in September and another visit
Suda's is a great place and deserves the publicity. She's been serving great food for a long time, and it's busy every evening, plus there are 3 big cats that prowl around too!

Nice. Soho pizza on soi11 is fabulous. As someone who’s eaten perhaps a gazillion pizza in his life I consider myself an expert. Perfect ny style grease dripping off. If anyone needs a break from Thai food that’s it. Across sukhumvit from there the pho stalls are also great. Heading back next month now that the Covid hassle has passed.

Thanks Delboy, I try and fit as much as possible into every video, people always moan about such small things and compare prices but the way I see it, I go where the quality is. Siam Sq is busy all the time but you don't get the underbelly of drug dealers and freelancers lurking like Sukhumvit, Silom isn't that busy now so for all in value Sukhumvit fits the bill I think.

I've been dreaming about visiting the land of smiles for YEARS. I'm going to reference your videos when I go hopefully in October. My plan is to visit for maybe a month, explore the land, meet friendly locals, & LIVE LIFE. :)
I've stayed in the Sukhumvit area a few times. Didn't know about those parks and other areas. I have to visit on my next trip. Thanks for showing us around.
Bangkok Pat didn't even talk about 1% of the places in lower Sukhumvit. I guess if you would visit only one place per day you would never run out of new places which open all the time.
@@BangkokPat I wasn't complaining about your selection and obviously it doesn't make sense to try to mention everything. It seems @Fanko looks for something other than what you mentioned. I guess I would mention Bumrungrad (good to know where it is), Soi Arab, the streetworkers mostly between Soi 3 and 5, Foodland, Soi 7 entertainment, a few places in Soi 11, the steakhouse in Soi 19, the list goes on and on. And, not sure how interesting that is for your viewers, there are also lots of nice condominiums in that area.
I’ve spent many of days and nights in the Asoke area and it still surprises me to watch your video and see places I never knew existed. Will definitely be checking out many of them on my next trip!
@@BangkokPat There was an American tourist just off the plane (first time out of USA) he asked me what a catamite is. When I told him he went a shade of burgundy and almost fainted. I think he was connected to the church. The Hotel manager was a true dragon.

When in BKK, Sofitel is always my go to hotel. Great breakfast, bone crunching Bose Sound system in the base suite and easy to get around. Or frasers suites at Soi 11. Washing machine/dryer and kitchenette in the studio rooms and full kitchen in the 1 bedroom apt. Bit of a walk to get to the main road but value for money, and cheaper than the sofitel. Both are "guest" friendly as well. 🤣
Funny thing about the beggars on Sukhumvit is how some of them work the same spot for years. If you visit every year and pay attention you'll start to recognize them.
Another super video Pat. It has brought back a lot of memories for me from my short Bangkok trips. I never ventured along the railway track. What a pity but at least I know to do it when hopefully I will get back to Thailand in the not to distant future. John
You showed a shot of that salt encrusted fish "pla phao". No matter how cool and comfortable shopping mall food courts are, I've never seen pla phao for sale in one, and it's really good with a bit of sauce!
@@BangkokPat did it yesterday afternoon in reverse starting at lumpini (had a chase off the m/ lizards) the new bit at benchakitti looks great, the bike circuit etc. On the mile bumped into a couple of people on the booze but harmless. Obviously followed up with refreshments myself 🍺! Popped in the donkey when passing didn't them bars were there.you were right cheap in comparison to that area. Someone has spent a lot of money the bars, look new

It doesn't. It leads to Benchakitti Park but the Green Skywalk mentioned does connect the two parks.

Suda's is a legend for locals as well as tourists. Also Monsoon Restaurant on Soi 8 is another highly recommended restaurant.

Some of the best pizza I have ever had came from Pala Pizza Romana just near Asok station. And you are spot on with Korea town .. great food
Pala does everything well from breakfast to dessert, but you must to have a slice.

Everything is pretty much well known on Sukhumvit. I'm not sure if there are any more 'hidden gems' left. Social media has ruined that.

@@BangkokPat There was an American tourist just off the plane (first time out of USA) he asked me what a catamite is. When I told him he went a shade of burgundy and almost fainted. I think he was connected to the church. The Hotel manager was a true dragon.

When in BKK, Sofitel is always my go to hotel. Great breakfast, bone crunching Bose Sound system in the base suite and easy to get around. Or frasers suites at Soi 11. Washing machine/dryer and kitchenette in the studio rooms and full kitchen in the 1 bedroom apt. Bit of a walk to get to the main road but value for money, and cheaper than the sofitel. Both are "guest" friendly as well. 🤣

Funny thing about the beggars on Sukhumvit is how some of them work the same spot for years. If you visit every year and pay attention you'll start to recognize them.
Also in other parts of Bangkok too. Some of those in Sukhumvit have been around the Central world area too

You showed a shot of that salt encrusted fish "pla phao". No matter how cool and comfortable shopping mall food courts are, I've never seen pla phao for sale in one, and it's really good with a bit of sauce!
Usually found being grilled on the street. Most food courts won't put a BBQ in there and to microwave it is criminal, it's gotta be fresh off the BBQ

@@BangkokPat did it yesterday afternoon in reverse starting at lumpini (had a chase off the m/ lizards) the new bit at benchakitti looks great, the bike circuit etc. On the mile bumped into a couple of people on the booze but harmless. Obviously followed up with refreshments myself 🍺! Popped in the donkey when passing didn't them bars were there.you were right cheap in comparison to that area. Someone has spent a lot of money the bars, look new
