    I've been a Costco member for decades. Never experienced anything judgemental...happiest employees ever.

      I met THE NICEST man at the food court thing this week. He was so kind and worked so hard.
      It really hasn’t been the employees (well, maybe a few have been a bit snippy but not many) and honestly, I think it is more a me than them problem.

    I used to care what others’ thought of me but one benefit I’ve noticed with growing older is how someone else chooses to see me is neither my business, nor my problem. I don’t exist to appease people like that. It’s very liberating!❤

    Thanks for another informative video. I've never had anyone explain food ingredients like that.
    And about the gardening video that I am so looking forward to. A few questions that I have are about the soil, good fertilizer to use (our soil is mostly clay so I don't know if anything will grow or not) and easy food to grow as beginners. I have watched videos of some gardening gurus, but was left feeling completely incompetent because I didn't understand all the gardening lingo or terminology. Make it simple like you're teaching Lane :)

      Just get compost and it loosens clay soil. If you make your own, Aldi has composters for about 40. It takes about a year to break down to compost. We got our tumbler for abput 80 on Amazon. So easy. Save dried leaves and throw in fruit and veggie peelings, coffee grounds, washed egg shells. Have fun with it.😊

    I thought this was a solid video. What you were saying about GMOs is what I’ve read. I would like to think that the reason why so many people are gluten and soy free and etc is because of the crops being modified. The food and pharmaceutical industries are making money off of sick people . Thanks Lori for making these videos ❤️ -Sarah

    That 's the difficulty of eating clean , the ultra processed food tastes good and most of the products in the shops are like that . I started clean eating about two month's ago and it takes motivation, experience and time . But it pays off health wise.

    My son has liver disease and can't have much processed food. Costco is a life-saver! One of our favorite Costco buys is the oganic sundried dates for $8. Costco has them about 40% cheaper than Amazon for the same exact brand, and there are about 140 dates in a bag. Often, my kids just eat them plain as a snack, but sometimes I stuff them with almond butter (we also buy the organic almond butter from Costco) and top with unsweetened coconut flakes. I also like to buy my carrots there. They have a 6lb bag of organic carrots for $6. We also get our frozen berries, honey, maple syrup, lots of spices, organic pasta (only has one ingredient: organic wheat), there is so much! Two of the "processed" things I do buy at Costco are the Rao's pasta sauce and ZBars to throw in lunch boxes. They both have natural ingredients and are much better prices than my local grocery store.

    I agree with you about the Costco/Sam’s environment. We were members of Sam’s Club but moved so I joined Costco bc I know Costco has more organic items than Sam’s. I did feel out of place going in Costco.

But please stop apologizing, we all love you and we want to know what you do and even though I am a single person I try to eat only real food, I can everything in August, I make my own bread. I do all that because I am a cancer survivor. Your channel always gives me new ideas or a laugh. Please know you are helping. And you don’t have to apologize. I love you!

    Budget before Sam’s. I have a concern about the broccoli. I have been buying the same type at Sam’s. Because it keeps fresh for so long, makes me wonder if it has the Apeel sprayed on it. How can we go about, finding out if it is, since it doesn’t have to be on the labels?

We dont go there. Its a little too far away. I decided to go carnivore. I dont eat fish, nor pork of any kind. I just started doing that this past week

    I really like your videos on budgeting. But I can't finish this one. I appreciate your concern about gmos but I can't listen to you say "non gmo" or "genetically modified" for every food item you purchase. Also, as a traditional grain farmer, I think your concerns about the use of chemicals are valid. But I would recommend you do a little more research before you continue throwing terms around.

    • @homemadesimplewithlori
      @homemadesimplewithlori  6 місяців тому +5

      Thanks for the feedback. I was trying to make this video more about gmos why is why I mentioned it so much.
      I would love to hear your feed back on what I was saying that was incorrect because I really want to have the right info. This is stuff I have learned through the years but it is certainly not perfect knowledge.
      Thanks for taking the time to inform! I really appreciate it. ❤️

    • @loriburgess1866
      @loriburgess1866 6 місяців тому +4

      I appreciate your gmo and pesticide information.
      The reason you keep saying both terms is because it is in there. Packaging and terms are ever changing and purposely tricky.
      One thing I've noticed and had a small amount of education on is labels that say "natural flavors" spoiler alert. It doesn't mean anything natural.

    • @amandakostreva3924
      @amandakostreva3924 6 місяців тому +4

      @homemadesimplewithlori What I mean is people use the term gmo as if that's the problem.
      A gmo plant is still just a plant.
      The problem is the chemicals and synthetic fertilizer that's used and the lack of true nutrition added to the soil.
      The lable Non-Gmo is a marketing tool.
      Also, non-gmo products can still be unhealthy and garbage food.
      Non-Gmo mac n cheese, or sugar for example.

    • @homemadesimplewithlori
      @homemadesimplewithlori  6 місяців тому +4

      I completely agree about many packaged products being unhealthy.
      I also agree that it is important to feed the soil so that the plants can be full of nutrients.
      I can see where hybridization can be helpful and useful but I think that changing the genetic makeup of our food supply is a dangerous step that may lead to serious consequences.
      I appreciate your feedback and always am interested in hearing other people’s perspective on things. It’s good to have conversations and help strengthen one another.
      I really appreciate you doing that. ❤️❤️

    If you want to purchase organic and healthy foods Costco is your store. Sorry you feel that way about Costco. Everyone at our store is friendly and helpful. I personally do not like people filming and "talking to themselves" . I wanted to hear your content but it was distracting. For me this would be the video to voice over. Hope you are not offended by my comment.

    • @ohiofarmgirl3384
      @ohiofarmgirl3384 6 місяців тому +2

      I don’t want to speak for Donna but I think you should you do some shots of the food you didn’t buy, without the sound, and then go into it further by doing a voice over during editing. For the foods you did buy, you can go into depth when you have it home. This eliminates the store distractions and having people in the video. I hope I explained it well.

    Thanks. Another great video! I very much appreciate your channel, even though I can't always use some of the information you provide. Like some of this video: the nearest Sam's and Costcos are almost a two hour drive each way, so they simply aren't an option.
    And based on just the prices you showed (eg the turkey and the kombucha), I have a sneaking suspicion that those or other healthly choices would be much in my budget even if I were closer. I and my 12 year old dog are trying to live on my social security check (< $1800/month), and so $4.75/lb for meat and $11 for twelve half liter beverage bottles just aren't an option any more. I occasionally splurge for ten pounds of Perdue chicken quarters at WalMart ($9) or ten pounds of 85/15 or 80/20 ground beef when it is on sale at $3.39/lb, or less, but almost all protein other than dry beans is out if reach. And don't get me started on the prices of fresh produce. Rice, dry pasta, beans, and store brand canned food are now the bulk of my diet. I am putting in a huge garden as soon as it dries out enough to start tilling up my lawn and plant (latter is still a month away here in zone 4b/5a), so I hope to start improving the quality of our produce intake by June, but I expect we are stuck being vegetarians for the foreseeable future.
    Thanks again, and keep up the great work. God bless.

      Thanks for the encouragement. I know these videos are helpful for everyone. Maybe you can get a little out of it anyway.
      For the kombucha, there’s a lot of good benefits to be gained from it, so it is a little more justifiable for me to purchase than bottles of soda. But I understand your point and I think it is valid.
      Thanks for watching!

    Sorry for the second comment, but I'm very excited about Costco, haha. I wanted to give you a tip about using the riced cauliflower. I actually add it to oatmeal. I am not a big fan of cauliflower in general and I don't care for it by itself, but in a bowl of oatmeal I can't even tell it is there. My favorite way to eat it is to cook a pot of oatmeal with chia seeds, chopped frozen cherries, pecans, maple syrup, riced cauliflower, cinnamon, and add a few chocolate chips at the end. It's a copycat recipe for a much more expensive oat bowl from Daily Harvest, the mail order company. It's so yummy!

    I am late to the party as i have taken a break from youtube. But i just watched your shopping for healthy choices video series. I just love it!
    We have similar views about food, cooking and budgeting. I am trying to have a homestead mindset on my 1/3 acre subdivision yard. 😂
    We got chickens! Yay!
    I am gardening again this year, but like you i feel there is a sea of information and I am trying to learn!
    I think i am local to you, so my question is about you picks and farmers markets around the Birmingham aream.
    I like the food security of home canning, but don't know how to find a good source for produce. Most Farmer's Markets prices are out of sight! I want to pick starwberries o make jam, but $15 per bucket??? And may not even organic. Sigh!

      I don’t have a lot of good info about the produce except two ideas:
      My dad goes to the farmers market on Finley Ave. if you are brave enough to go there, they have some good deals.
      And I see a lot of people just setting up on the side of the road and having “serve yourself” farm stands. I don’t know where you are, but there are several near me near Tannehill State Park. Feel free to email me if you want more details

    Don’t listen to the negative comments. That’s your decision. Both Costco and Sam’s Club are good so people’s choices. When you purchase fruits/vegetables, be sure washing them with water, baking soda and apple cider vinegar then water rinse them off and pat dry. 😊
