I was in Japan when Japan then the US pivoted to opening full access and free trade with Communist China, gambling with the untested idea that globalization and free market integration, would somehow incentivize China (and Russia), to become full functioning Western democracy.
These policies were supposed to have created a more safer, peaceful world through mutually beneficial and reciprocal partnership with China. They abysmally failed.
