It’s interesting how people react when Australia is called an "unsinkable US aircraft carrier." While we've been distracted by domestic issues, let's say footy, our dependency on the US and UK has only deepened, and with it, our inability to say no to wars that have little to do with us. For decades, we’ve followed our allies into conflicts that don’t serve Australia’s interests, lacking the leadership to stand firm. Our strategic value has grown, but at the cost of our independence. Welcome to your new world-where Australia's role is dictated more by others' wars than our own sovereignty.

But if the US lost control of Taiwan, Apple, Nvidia, AMD, Qualcomm, Tesla and even Lockheed Martin would all go under. And most companies listed on NASDAQ would lose more than 80% of their values if not bankrupt.
It is weird how under reported the Philippines are considering that China is more aggressive there in someways and unlike Taiwan China has no recognized claim of the waters they claim.
There is also a reason France are forward deploying ships to serve their Pacific interests from Australia. The UK are basing a nuke sub long term out of Perth, Germany announced the Luftwaffe will have jets based in Australia (forward deployment and making use of the lack of busy airspace for training) and Singapore will also increase their training units here to include fighter jets.
Australia is almost as big as US and Canada in terms of its landmass. Australia is a continent in itself given the sheer scale of its landmass, located between Pacific and Indian Ocean. It is detached from the rest of the world by several thousand miles, except a few tiny islands surrounding it, and that makes Aussie land strategically very signifiant location for trade, tourism, and defense. US being able to use Aussie land to expand its military bases and defense capabilities is a huge advantage to keep China in check.

As an Australian, I am mindful of America's only consistent policy - self-interest. In WW2, Macarthur used our troops as cannon fodder in minor campaigns. It only utilised the British Pacific Fleet when the armoured flghtdecks of their carriers were resistant to most kamikaze attacks. America's policy was clearly stated, to make the Pacific an American lake. Then came the betrayal at Suez in 1956. More recently, America's car companies closed their factories in Australia. We are supposed to follow the American "free market" model when our size makes us vulnerable to predatory overseas companies, mostly American. North Korea has given self-sufficiency a bad reputation, yet we need to protect ourselves from both Chinese expansionism and American corporate suzerenity. How many Chinese car factories would transfer my allegiance? I don’t know, but love for America...
Ask the Tibetans about chinese self interest. Or south east asian countries about chinese policy of maritime borders, or India/Bhutan about land borders. Ask developing nations about the terms of the loans so graciously given to them. Ask the people of Taiwan or Hong Kong why they resist Bejing's rule. Or ask a mainlander what happened on June 4th 1989. All chinese self interest. Australia imports cars from 1)Japan, 2)South Korea, 3)China, 4)Thailand, and 5)Germany. The latest data I saw was 1.1 million imports and 500 thousand domestic production per year. Most governments add auto tariffs to protect domestic industries from imports, this tariff was removed in australia and domestic producers were pushed out. The US led order has issues, but it has a forum to create multi-lateral deals to fix these issues. It's policy will be based in self interest just as the policy of australia will be, but it also uses it's power to protect the free world. China uses it power to take or threaten to take more land.

Some of these comments seem to ignore the major lesson of Pearl Harbor. The way to avoid an escalating conflict is to prepare for it. Australia isn’t sovereign. The US had to have permission from the British Crown to place military assets on Australian soil. Australia is still a British colony. As of 2024, Australian’s are not mature enough to become a Republic and Govern themselves on the international stage.
I'm an Australian I'm also an Army veteran. Not many people realise that Taiwan is closer to mainland China than Tasmania is to mainland Australia. If China attempted to muscle itself into Tasmania, Australians like myself would be looking for a fight.
The distance from Australia to Taiwan is 5000 mi. You know what's also 5000 mi away from Taiwan? Hawaii. I'm skeptical that Australia is some sort of lynchpin in the US's strategy to block a Taiwan invasion. More likely, they're setting up bases in Australia to counter China in the S. Pacific. Japan and the Phillipines will be the crucial bases to counter a move against Taiwan (South Korea may choose to stay neutral to avoid a land invasion and therefore can't be relied on to host attacks against China).
You're right, the bases in Aus are a little too far to employ troops for direct combat operations. Therefore these bases will be used as more of a support and the main base, while other bases such as those in Philippines and Japan (Kadena especially) are more closer to Taiwan and woul allow more effective and efficiently and logistically simple to deploy combat forces and resources.
China/Taiwan is 4,160 KM from Australia, 8,483 KM from Hawaii. Also Hawaii has no geographical buffer, any attack on Hawaii would potentially take out all military bases just the way it happened in WWII.

You guys got the location of HMAS Stirling base, very very wrong. It's not in Shark Bay.

Free infrastructure for Australia. Great.
Some airports in the middle of nowhere, yay! Nah, this investment is in the middle of a dessert, we're talking like 10hrs+ drive to any type of city. Only value any of this has is to the us millitary

Darwin was once hundreds or even thousands of kilometres away from anything worthwhile, build the hub and the surrounds become useful
As an Australian I find this redeployment very reassuring, loving the concept of our country as "an unsinkable U.S. aircraft carrier" in the south Pacific. This alliance worked out very well for us in WWII.
You love Australia being viewed as a military asset rather than an equal?
Military assets get destroyed in war to protect the human elements.
And I, for one, welcome our new American overlords.
@@MrPsychochickens If we're choosing between overlords, I'd choose the ones who've done us right in the past.
@@videowilliams Only one country has been complicit in the overthrow of our democratically elected government before.... (Its the U.S)
@@MrPsychochickens Are you still crying over Gough Whitlam's dismissal and consequent election loss by a landslide back in '75? Well, Wikipedia says of that: "Despite being denied by both Kerr and Whitlam, allegations have repeatedly been made about CIA involvement in the Whitlam dismissal, but remain unsubstantiated." So don't go saying that as if it's a proven fact.
You put Stirling a thousand kilometers higher than it should be, its located in Perth WA
Nice to know Americans are on our side but please try not to pollute the Nthern Territory too much when building the Fuel Tanks etc.
Chima doesn need to attck its taiwan province. US and western empire is under colapsing. don't you notice it
😂😂 nice try!
In other words, Australia exists as one of the frontier battlefields of the U.S.A?
aka cannon fodder
@@zackwang9314 Nonsense. We already knew we had to stand with the rest of SE Asia against China. Having the Americans supporting us is a very welcome reinforcement. 🇦🇺🤝🇺🇸
@@proximacentauri3627 when was the last time we needed their help and they didn't need ours
@@zackwang9314 I wouldnt say cannon fodder. Cannon fodder implies wee dont love running in front of MG fire.
Its in our ethanol-infused blood. We've (like the canadians) always loved warfare
@long_chin_man : How's life on the bot farm? Have they fed you this week?
Australians don't want these bases.
Australia should call China for a break dance competition.
Australia is America`s stalwart ally having been in every action for 100 yrs. We have top gun pilots and F35`s. Aussies are famous as warriors. Churchill said give me a battalion of them and I`ll win.
Rommel said:
" Shortly afterwards a batch of some fifty or sixty Australian prisoners were marched off close beside us - immensely big and powerful men, who without question represented an élite formation of the British Empire, a fact that was also evident in battle.
Despite the curtain of fire which was at once put down by the German-Italian artillery, the Australians succeeded in penetrating our front and wiping out the greater part of the German battalion."
