    Option...1st I am a electrician that has worked out of the I.B.E.W L.U. 466 for 32 years. That being said I want to inform people that if your neutral and ground are bonded in your electric panel you can use the ground as a neutral for switches that require a neutral. I have wired switches this way in my brothers, my mother's, my cousins house and my own house. If you don't have a disconnect box inline before your electrical panel then your ground and neutral WILL be bonded.

      I just took the safe route and got a no neutral switch for the 1 box in my house that didn't have a neutral wire

    Moesgo is an option for no neutral wire. We have just one bathroom with no neutral wire and I was able to use moesgo to set up smart switches. Cost me about $35.

    Do you know of any smart switches that control wall receptacles and won’t fry when I accidentally turn them on with a 1150 W vacuum cleaner plugged in?

      I’d go for one that is rated for large loads like fans, it will likely need a neutral wire. There’s a version of Lutron that comes to mind, and probably something from manufacturers like GE. Alternatively you could change out the outlet. in general I’m not a fan of switches that control outlets, when we built our house I made sure they didn’t put any in

    Thanks for this video. I purchased 3 Wyze smart switches. I have a 3 gang box in my bedroom. 1st switch controls ceiling light on/off. 2nd switch controls ceiling fan on/off. 3rd switch controls closet light. All switches are on same circuit. No switches are 3 way. Load comes into 3rd switch. Then jumps from 3rd switch to 2nd switch and then jumps from 2nd switch to 1st switch. Each switch has line out going to respective fixtures. I followed same configuration on new Wyze switches that I had on old dumb switches for load and lines. Neutrals wires are all bundled and then pig tailed to each Wyze switch. Same with grounds. The Wyze switches will not power up and the LED lights are not on. I do have power though at each load. Will the Wyze switches not work with this configuration? Can you recommend switches that will? Thanks so much!

      I'd recommend having an electrician take a look, I've always had separate line/load wires for each circuit in the installs I've done but I'm not an electrician.

      You have it configured wrong - it should work.
      Load is the connection going to the light, so please make sure you're not connecting that to the line part.
      Line could connect to one light and jump to other switches.
      I would use a multimeter to confirm if its the line wire (if this isnt solved yet - i see its been 2 months, lol)

    Can Aqara hubs/sensors control automations that end with a Lutron switch? For example, through homekit?

    • @BrandonDoyleMN
      @BrandonDoyleMN  Рік тому

      Through an intermediary such as HomeKit they should be able to.

    Would you recommend any of these for a pool pump (obviously in a weatherproof box)?

    • @BrandonDoyleMN
      @BrandonDoyleMN  2 роки тому +1

      You'd just need to make sure it's rated for motors

      Any switch will work with an LED light bulb.

    If a new build has PoE lighting (because of cheaper wiring and lower electrical usage) is there any manufacture of traditional style light controls that also work with PoE? I plan to have a several touch screens around the house that integrates all smart devices in addition to the lighting, but I still want traditional light switches by the door, bedside, etc. for practical purposes (guests, children, or when I cannot find my glasses).

      I've seen Crestron systems with low voltage touchpads for switches, you could possibly use buttons or relays to do this. What company is providing the PoE lighting and what do they recommend for control?

    Are there any 3 gang 2way dimmable smart switch? Thnx

    • @BrandonDoyleMN
      @BrandonDoyleMN  Рік тому +1

      You can do multiple smart switches in a box, I've got multiple sets of 3 lutron caseta dimmers in a 3 gang boxes around the house, some 2 way, some 3 ways. You can do that with most switches. Brilliant does have an option that'd take up the whole box and does dimming

    To other smart switches remember where they were set?

      Most do now, but it’s something to watch out for with the cheap ones
