Interesting facts about Squids and Octopus, they stay buoyant in the water through ammonia in their bodies. This amount isn't enough to matter usually, but the bigger they get the bigger the amount of ammonia. Over a certain amount and they stop being edible entirely. This is why no one eats Giant squid. Another cool fact is that sqiuds actually do lose their colour when they die, and hitting them between the eyes (their brain) with your hands is usually a one hit kill.
Something from the manga but didn't make it into the anime: dwarves have a low tolerance for magic and too much exposure can give them indigestion akin to someone who's lactose intolerant drinking milk. I kinda like this idea 'cause it explains why dwarves and elves solve problems differently, but I also like anime!Senshi's preference for avoiding shortcuts... they're both fun explanations.
The thing is with Kelpies, in Irish or Scottish mythology they are known to play docile to people to coax them into riding them and then run out into the water to drown and eat them.
This is one of the places where the anime differs from the manga, less in the content and more in the order of everything. I mean, there is content missing here, but dialogue pages really eat up time in an anime... they did it well but hhhrrrnnggg.... missing bits. World lore bits. oh well. A fun detail I REEEAAAALLY wish had made it into this episode is the little recipe blurb (after every meal is finished cooking scene theres a little stat page and a close up of the meal with its title). Marcille gets one after making her soap in the manga! Senshi and Marcille bicker a bit about magic being the "easy way out" and her making the soap is where they start understanding eachother better. This is where Senshi STARTS to respect Marcille's magic. The parallel provided by the recipe blurb was a fun detail. Rip. Also! The theories you talked about at the start of this episode, I'd rewatch the prophecy at the start of episode one.
One of the best part of this series is how it takes old monster tropes and puts a completely new spin on them. Like how mermaids can be countered by singing, golems as gardens, treasure boxes are treasure bug infested mimics etc... i love how the writer is thinking out of the box.
16:35 If you ever come to Japan, please try “鰻の蒲焼 Unagi no Kabayaki” (broiled eel). It is a bit expensive, but you will be impressed by the best taste😋
10:58 - *“He's gonna look glorious!” - “That whole shot was just his beard.” - “Oh my gosh!”* "He's so _fluffy,_ I'm gonna _die!"_ 😉 14:55 - *“The kraken could make enough food to last for a while, right?”* Unfortunately, in a squid this size, the tissue would be _full_ of ammonia, which it uses to regulate buoyancy, making it not just unpalatable, but unhealthy to eat. That's why Laios says that it stinks and tastes bitter. 16:37 - _Broiled and Glazed Giant Parasitic Worm_ As soon as I saw Senshi insert the wooden skewers, I knew that they were preparing it just like traditional broiled eel. 21:16 - *“Okay, so then what's the difference? Do you make more money, if it **_is_** an actual dead person that you've retrieved and you've brought to the surface?”* If I remember right, one of them said that the fee for reviving or retrieving gets higher, the deeper in the dungeon it is. Thus they potentially profit, if Kabru's group is motivated to delve deeper, after another group they think wronged them, not just because they'll likely die _again,_ but also because they'll be further down when it happens. Regardless of whether it comes to a fight, more groups going deeper into the dungeon are a statistical benefit for the retrievers, so the unscrupulous ones encourage it, to the detriment of the adventurers.
It's believed that Anne actually was being nice to Senshi, but Kelpies drag people into water when they try riding them. So, Senshi inadvertently activated Anne's killer instinct when he tried riding her.
...I never got that impression. I thought what the author implied was that Anne always wanted to kill Senshi and was patient enough to wait until the opportune moment.
i thought it was because senshi doesn't have a stick lure this time around to avert the attention of the kelpie. that's why the kelpie thought that if it could kill senshi, it can get the mimic that was held within his grasp
the thing is that kelpies whole thing is luring people into riding them and then drowning them, is like trusting a siren because "she was being nice" no duh thats how they hunt their prey heck Ben and Anna were 100% on the idea of riding the kepie because they didn't know any better, this was just normal predator behavoir of only attacking when the prey is not looking
As another reactor put it: "Laios normally gets 2% more unhinged with each episode, but in this one he goes straight to 20% more unhinged" I do appreciate the fact that he asks questions like "What is a demi-human?" and "Why is it ok to eat cows, but not fish (men)?" because it really gives some interesting insights about this world. On the other hand... I know you're a foodie, Laois, but why the heck did you think eating raw parasite meat was a good idea?
I think it’s cuz Marcille said that eel/squid can be consumed raw. So he’s like “ohh? It’s good well I guess raw parasite is basically the same thing, right?” Without realizing that ppl eat it raw after the chef has cleaned it. Senshi never intended for it to be eaten raw, so of course he didn’t bother cleaning it out completely cus he was going to cook it.
I’m pretty sure Kabru’s party was actually dead, but the corpse retrievers told them they were just paralyzed so they’d be more likely to continue, die again, pay for resurrection, rinse and repeat.
The oversized parasite was so disgusting...but why did it have to look so much like broiled eel after being cooked...? I'm very adverse to worms (especially long, white ones), and if I was only told what it was I would probably eat it, but I would never eat it if I've seen its living form.
I would argue that his carelessness with traps in episode two also counts. Though maybe that’s more so showing his stubbornness and his lack of trust in others’ skills until he sees it for himself.
Autosave, could you guys please react to Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure or at least put it in the options of what to watch next. Thank you and have a great day
As soon as the name "Kelpie" was uttered, alarm bells should have been going off, because the kelpies of Celtic mythology are killers and man-eaters. When you meet a wild horse by the waterfront, with a strangely wet mane, who seems curiously willing - almost _eager_ - to let you get on its back and ride it… you may want to resist the offer, or you'll find yourself in a _sticky_ situation and quickly _in over your head_ - and the kelpies will feast well that night. In the real world, every year a number of people who work with wild animals get mauled or even die, either because long familiarity made them careless, or because they actually deluded themselves that their good rapport with the animal would somehow cause it to make an _exception_ to its instinctive hunting/killing behaviour. That's not how that works! It doesn't matter how long the animal has known you or how much it likes your company, if you make the wrong sound or move the wrong way, the sensory stimulus will flip that little hardwired switch in its brain that says _"Prey"_ - and they _will_ run you down and maul you, because a wild animal can't just _decide_ not to follow its instincts, just because it likes you. The kelpie "Anne" may actually have liked Senshi, for all we know, and might have missed his company later, after it ate him - but the moment Senshi sat on its back, he declared "I am your dinner. Drown me and eat me," and Anne reacted according to its natural instincts. Domesticating a species of animal takes many generations of selective breeding to tamp down or eliminate the dangerous instincts. It's not possible with every species, plus there are usually major side effects, because in reality there almost never is one specific "gene for _X"_ that only affects whatever _X_ is, and nothing else.
I love how Chilchuck said Kabru looked familiar and Laios just replied "nope don't remember" but when he saw the kobold he immediately recognized them
Almost accurate depiction of ASD I have ever seen lol

The colour loss is because their camouflage is muscle-based! So once they die their camouflage muscles relax and stop working
Edit: typo
@@Adirbal
Cool, I wonder how they know how to pull each muscle to get the color they need
The Story gets better and better, the whole story wraps up in season 2, it's absolutely amazing.

I love when laios sings

I love that LITTLE DETAIL of Laios shaving his beard.
A good flashfoward.

It's really cool what they did to the kraken when senshi stab it and it turned white bc it(squid) does go white when you hit them around the head area
Love Laios’s group’s friendship.

the laios singing part will never not be amazing. lol the fact that he wanted to learn it all to sing with them, and they hate it hahaha
It's believed that Anne actually was being nice to Senshi, but Kelpies drag people into water when they try riding them. So, Senshi inadvertently activated Anne's killer instinct when he tried riding her.
Who believed that, Anne is indeed just try to seduce Senshi to ride her back so that she can eat his meat
...I never got that impression. I thought what the author implied was that Anne always wanted to kill Senshi and was patient enough to wait until the opportune moment.
@@庫倫亞利克Either can be true, and in both cases the lesson is that wild animals (and monsters) are not pets and cannot be trusted not to just kill you

I mean, judging purely by looks, the parasite very much looks like a species of eel
Senshi’s hate towards magic cooktops is like people hating induction cooktops
3:10 to wash her hair, why else?
Also I've meant to say it for weeks but I LOVE the deep blue hair Ben!
Mostly,
People start getting addicted to this anime from this story.
Never trust a kelpie
YES YES YES
This episode is kind of the first in showing that Senshi can also be wrong sometimes
I would argue that his carelessness with traps in episode two also counts. Though maybe that’s more so showing his stubbornness and his lack of trust in others’ skills until he sees it for himself.
Does someone know how they take show suggestions?
