Back in the early to late 90's, I used to catch a lot of smallies on jerkbaits, both hard and soft. The Bill Lewis Rat-L-Stik and Slug-Go were my go-to baits. I no longer have a boat so I haven't fished those lakes in quite some time.
When using a size 2 or 4 hook for your nedrig you wanna use a light rod with a fast tip and 8 to 10lbs braid with a 8lbs leader. The action is more finesse and gets you a few more bites. I hook them just fine this way in the roof of there mouth. If you use a medium rod with 15lbs i can see you skin hook them and rip it loose.
6th sense 3” whale and Devine swim baits are killer little swim baits, even better if boil them 3-5 min , the tail will kick at ultra slow retrieves in super cold water, great vid
Thanks Nathan. Just fished Coniwigo lake (you know where that is right) and got skunked. It is still tough out there, those deep smallies weren't having it. Threw those same bait styles quite a bit. I agree those baits should work and will in a couple weeks.
Just fished there two weeks ago. The deep ones were a pain but I smoked them for 3 days 10-15'. They should be even more aggressive when the weather stabilizes.
I fish a river that doesn’t have very meany creeks. Mostly 15/20 ft deep in East Tennessee. I’ve tried just about everything. Seems the only bait that gets a few bites is super small bait like rooster tell. But it’s not a good bit any help
is there a trick to tying flouro to snap swivels? My braid to flouro knot was bombproof but i snapped off 4 baits on 5 casts right at the knot where the snap meets the flouro (12lb test). tried multiple different knots
Is that an umbrella or alabama rig??ha ha ha id be embaressed to throw that, how many lures do you need at once.the baits id use a suspending jerkbait a spinnerbait instead of crankbaits and a gitzit fat tube in place of the ned rig or a football jig tipped with a plastic leech or grub will do nicely.but we all prefer different things,im 56 so those baits have done well for me for awhile.the umbrella type thing is just to much for me,id feel like a clown.sure they work but so does dynamite.no offense intended but thought they outlawed them.i guess i would be a good snagging rig though.
Its crazy that all your favorite baits are made by the same brand! You never mentioned what brand line, rods, or reels you use.... almost like a commercial
Unfortunately I have to mention sponsor product to keep the channel going I have plenty of other videos talking about non sponsor items or you could substitute your favorite bait instead

Interesting!
Like the bait selections, and the reason you give for using each of them. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks!

Great video boss! I live in Ontario Canada my go to for smallmouth is Ned rig all year right up until water freezes. Thanks for sharing
Awesome good luck!
I like all the baits on here but the fishery’s around me my top 5 is vision 110, drop shot, small paddle tail, ned, hair jig
Those are great ones too!

Is that a bad thing?
They come a little stiff , boiling makes them super soft so the tail works better in ultra cold water when your just dragging them super slow
They definitely catch them!
Does the dark sleeper style lure come into play in the fall (especially rivers)?
Absolutely would!
One day I will get to fish for smallmouth. We don’t have many lakes here in Texas that have them.
They’re a ton of fun!

Good luck keep on trying!
You don't need dirty water to catch them on Brite red. Try it in the morning or overcast, they will rip the rod out of your hand.
True!
Im fishing Dale Hollow last wk in Oct. Do you think this would still apply?
Possibly!
What’s the difference between the swim bait on a jig head and the bed rig setup?
One I use as a horizontal retrieve and the other I keep on the bottom

I use an Alberto knot for it!
You don't mention Keitech swimbaits anymore, is that because of your 6th Sense sponsorship or did you find them no longer useful?
Sure sponsors are good but it gets boring when it's all baits from there sponsors
Keitech is still absolutely useful and I do use them myself just need to throw sponsor product in to keep the channel going!
What part of northeast you form
Pennsylvania
@@nathanquincefishing7122 love it me to l will be making challenging videos for are area

It’s effective and a lot of fun to fish but to each their own!
@@nathanquincefishing7122 i agree.im happy with one lure

probably paid and sponsored by 6th sense...I can't watch videos like this, lol...I'm out
