Suddenly, I'm kindergarten years old, sitting in the back seat of Dad's '73 Trans Am with this blasting out of the 8-track as he took me and my two big brothers on one of our many weekend adventures. _"Hang on boys, I'm gonna show your little knuckleheads what 455 cubic inches can do..."_ He' still rockin' in his 80s and still my hero.
Great song. If this was a Beatles’ songs their fans would be going ape about it. You know what they’re like. Anyhoo I used to dance to this. If you remember the Bump.
The complete "Ferguslie Park" album is still really genius, but the album version of this song (the closing track of this album) will be the masterpiece of this wonderful band. A melody no one can forget who ever enjoyed it ... an the lyrics ... !!!
This is a different take than the single..! And I agree, should have gone toi number one on the US and any other countries's charts,a nd on all music charts :D!
I remember it being played a couple of times in 73 and it faded into oblivion. Don't recall hearing it on the radio since. But for me one not to be forgotten. .
Agree. Trouble was: this isn't the version they released as a single. The one actually put out had an arrangement and sound that was too similar to their previous 45 "Stuck In The Middle".
The first time I drove my new Corvette I put this song on and cruised around town with it blasting and my windows down~!! What a great memory from almost 50 years ago ;) !
That's what happens when you have a common play list with radio stations owned by corporate radio-when Tom Petty was singing about the last DJ, he wasn't kidding--I totally agree with you they did so many great songs that deserved airplay
You said it regaltip8A It's the melody of their combined vioces without external enhancement and of course the great back-up musicians who i believe were not always the same people but nevertheless provided the complete package. PERFECTION. Thanks Darcal 2 without people like yourself we would never hear all this wonderful music and by doing so enables us to be more discerning music lovers.
It truly is a blessing to have seen them, and so many other bands from the 60s and 70s, in concert. Music really is changing mylittlepurno, a darn shame.
Growing up in Las Vegas...remember hearing this in the Station Wagon with my Mom...on the I-15 south...passing the strip on the left, circa '71? '72 maybe? Best Childhood times...
What a songwriter Gerry Rafferty was. Never got the credit he should have, even though he did get a lot of credit. Too bad he just could not beat the bottle. Because anything today pales in comparison to his music
Riding on the subway watching all the people stare, Everyone just listens, they won't do any talking, oh no, whoa no. They just sit there waitin', waitin' with their eyes Don't ask any questions, you won't get an answer, oh no, whoa no. Everybody seems to have a good time, Nobody goes stepping out of line, Everyone's agreed that everything will turn out fine. Moving through the city, making all the rounds, Trying different places, didn't like the faces, oh no, whoa no. Rollin' in the gutter, throwin' up my pride, Belly full of whiskey, was it hard to swallow? Oh no, whoa no. Everybody seems to have a good time, Nobody goes stepping out of line, Everyone's agreed that everything will turn out fine. Everybody seems to have a good time, Nobody goes stepping out of line, Everyone's agreed that everything will turn out fine.
@kernow234 My pleasure - glad to share. My Dad introduced me to Gerry's music in the late 70s. In fact the only music he EVER played in his car was GR's "City to City", "Night Owl", "Snakes and Ladders" and "Sleepwalking". His four best solo albums in my opinion. Even though I was a young child at the time, I never became bored by hearing them and now I love them more if that's possible. GR died on my Dad's birthday who's long since passed away, but a strange coincidence I thought.
A belated RIP Gerry. I was going through a bout of depression (somehow aptly) just before he died, so wasn't using my computer at the time. Anyway, as others have said he'll be missed. Thanks for the ever enduring music Gerry.
Wow, is the 45 version of this ever DIFFERENT !! (This is the version I grew up with). I just heard the other one for the 1st time today ! Sounds like an entirely different band with Egan's and Rafferty's voices dubbed in on top.
Son canciones buenas e interesantes.Pues resulta que este grupo escocés no lo conocía,pero, ahora, aunque es la primera vez que lo escucho,si que me agrada bastante.
Some great bands unfortunately slip under the radar. Stealer's Wheel is more than just a " one hit wonder", i look at them more as a damn good band. R.I.P. Joe Egan
A Stealers Wheel trademark - an upbeat song on the face of it but, when you listen to the lyrics, they're quite blatantly cynical! (And probably as relevant in the present as 40+ years ago when they were written!)
Gerry Rafferty! These guys were great. In fact I've just released a real fun music video paying homage to SW. Everyone please do take a moment to check it out. Thank you, and please give a thumbs up to Stealers Wheel!
+robert harding Not clever. Aware. Cleverness is something that you develop to manipulate others into believing a lie. Awareness comes only from seeing things for what they are. The reason you think the song is clever is actually because it's telling you the truth, which is the opposite of clever. This, along with much of the music from its era, is a warning that no one heeded. You can track how awareness started to grow in society by the music from the 60s on, and then got hijacked by the powers that be and turned into the consumerist garbage it is today, via MTV. Stuck in the Middle With You is about cannabis opening up the perspective to see how fake society is. Hurricane is about police and court corruption. Horse With No Name is about environmental and cultural degradation. When we get into the modern era, Wrecking Ball is about a narcissist and her immature emotions. You can see how music culture devolved in the 90s onward. Now instead of songs about real things, we have a bunch of narcissistic messages training young people to be stupid.
Nonsense, Snarkbutt. Popular music has always been co-opted by people in the music business wanting to make money instead of musical art or statements, and there have always been musicians concerned more about making music than money. The only thing that's really changed is music technology and the accessibility of music.
I read some time ago that Donovan was Britain's 'answer' to Bob Dylan and more recently that Egan& Rafferty were Britain's 'answer' to Crosby, Stills, and Nash BUT __and a very big "but"__ what can I say other than after to knowing them is that I love them as much as Lennon & McCartney -- and there are serious signs of influence of the latter on Furguslie Park album
Criminally underrated band.

Great song elicits memories of my childhood. Sadly, can't find this on spotify...
It’s like the Beatles with just a touch of twang. These guys were great!
It's nothing like The Beatles
''ginger soul'' mucker 😁
The best....!!!!! Thank you !!!
For some reason it’s not on streaming services anymore. There’s always the good old UA-cam and I’m thankful for that.
Haven't heard this one since it was on the charts in the 70's.

Ondergewaardeerde song, ondergewaardeerde band. Nog altijd leuk om te beluisteren. Thanks Gery, thanks Joe.
killer track. highly underrated (IMHO), as were the artists.
A good song for all optimists, I really like this song, very good performance , the complete album is great.
How is it I went for 45 years without hearing this song? Thank you, Calv!
I remember it being played a couple of times in 73 and it faded into oblivion. Don't recall hearing it on the radio since. But for me one not to be forgotten.
.
First time I ever heard this song..No reason this should not have been a mega hit
song...
Their music brings back incredible memories. Sure beats the crap they release today
Mark Forest ..........Ferguslie Park is a great album ( album...........showing my age now😳)
@@ronaldomadrebien7045 then I'm with you also and I don't care if I I want to listen to good music I have to get old lol

BRILLIANT
yeh,why is it we hear stuck in the middle all the time on shows like gold and not a classic like this, brilliant.
Idiotic & lazy radio programmers, that's why....
That's what happens when you have a common play list with radio stations owned by corporate radio-when Tom Petty was singing about the last DJ, he wasn't kidding--I totally agree with you they did so many great songs that deserved airplay
That's an excellent question since this song is so much better. Maybe I think that because they beat stuck in The Middle with You to death
Great, great song. RIP Mr. Rafferty
Gerry was one of a kind, and maybe we all want to be of that calibre. I know I do.😎

After just hearing this song for the first time, I realized that they are no longer just a one hit wonder!
'Star' was an even bigger hit than this song, though not the smash that "Stuck in the Middle With You" was.
I always thought that this is an even better song than "Stuck In The Middle", hope it never gets forgotten!
donquixote2u it’s not
@@jerrymammoser1509 Hahahahahahaaaa.
way better
I agree
Con todo respeto, es buena pero No. "Stuck in the..." no se se compara con Nadie.
Had never heard this before and love it..thanks for sharing..I love hearing different stuff
Mr Murph and the Magic Tones and Blu Lou ..........take a listen to the Ferguslie Park album, just wonderful

Gotta love the line "Rolling in the gutter, throwing up my pride, belly full of whiskey, was it hard to swallow oh no"
I'm not ashame Reservoir Dogs brought me to this terrific band. I'm young and have more knowledge of movies than I have of music.

a great band...i played this LP a million times, or at least it seemed that way
awesome album and I used to live in ferguslie park many moons ago
Pure CLASSIC. PERIOD!!!!!!!
Should have gotten a ton of more airplay.A great song.
This is the album version .
The 7” version has handclaps and is also on UA-cam but isn’t available on any album
Who else is still listening to this in 2020?
This album is being played on vinyl in my shed today as I was putting s

Top song. They don't write them like this any more.Melody is dead.
RIP Gerry.
Love this! Been looking for ages. Thanks for posting.
Wonderful song with marvellous vocal harmonies in fifths. Couldn’t get the melody and the singing out of my head last night.
Rest in peace, Joe Egan. 😢

Great song👍👍
UHHH, Gene Clark that is,listen and shiver...
proper song,,,,,,,,great band
One of many gems from Messrs. Rafferty & Egan. The 2004/5 cd remasters on Lemon Recordings/Cherry Red were excellent.

B side to Stuck In The Middle. I had the 45.
so underrated its unfair,,
It's as good as Rubber Soul.. thanks boys.Gerry rest in peace
Wish I would have kept all my albums. This one had numerous good songs on it
Just heard that Joe Egan passed away R.I.P.
Get it on.
stuck in the middle sounds better on the radio thats why it was a big hit
Power pop at its finest 😙
Also RIP Gerry Rafferty.A very great folk-rock singer is dead. That song(with Steelers wheels is one of the songs I prefer.....And the lyrics!
You all realize the version that was the 45RPM single release is drastically different right?
Yes very different! I like this version much better.
Probably their best.

Fuck yea!!

I first heard this when Gerry covered this for his 1995 Greatest Hits album. This version is better than the original.
lovely song
Rafferty was the brain in Stealers Wheel,Joe went to soon on his wn,forgotten this great guy..like so many others ( Guy Clark from the Byrds )
You're right, and the dude you're thinkin' about from The Byrds is Gene Clark.
Joe Egans songs on all SW albums are great though, he is the other half of SW.
Easily the best song they ever did. Has not dated one bit.
Gerry Rafferty! These guys were great. In fact I've just released a real fun music video paying homage to SW. Everyone please do take a moment to check it out. Thank you, and please give a thumbs up to Stealers Wheel!
Don't worry everything will turn out fine
Beginning reminds me of Joe Walsh In The City just for a second
I really wish I could find this on Spotify or something
Or maybe UA-cam LOL ;)
Better than Stuck in the Middle!
burlingtonbill1 by far
By far of course hearing it on the radio as the only Stealers Wheel song didn't help
very good song
out of sight ! :)

Gerry Rafferty-great-but so was Joe Egan! Think Joe's lack of a credible solo career cost him in terms of recognition.
+Andrew Pollock agree..... Joe wrote more songs on all the 3 albums
how gracious off you to drop in a bit matter of fact everything will turn out fine
