I agree. It never got far enough up the charts to satisfy me. My local stations played it for a few months, but it didn't do as well, nationally. It should've been a chart topper.
This track was Stealers Wheel follow up to Stuck in the Middle with you, and it was one tune sadly that didn't get the recognition it deserved but for me it was one awesome track.
I've had this single for close to 30 years. I bought it at a defunct) record shop on the corner of Pico & Harvard in L.A. where it was being ignored. It was in their used jukebox singles that they sold at 5 for $1.00. To say this song was criminally ignored is an understatement. It doesn't make any sense why those folks who put out those Best of/Hits collections didn't use this far superior mix instead of the lesser LP version. The record labels may not care but we do.
Yes!!!! I knew this version from the radio, but it was never the one I found on vinyl. That's for putting it out here! So much better than any album version.
I also consider this song one of my favorites. I have since 1973, when it was on top 40 radio. It's a shame that once it had it's chart run, it was forgotten. Sorely underrated. I played the 45 hundred's of times, maybe a thousand! I still do.
did you ever notice the inordinate number of artists (music or otherwise) who have their addictions, weaknesses, whatever you want to call them--it's obviously part of the gifted package--genius does indeed border on insanity
This version never on CD either - brilliant version - the hand claps make it and Gerry's lead vocal mixed higher and much better than some versions which appeared on 7 inch - also interesting that in America the full title was used on the single "Everyone's Agreed That Everything Will Turn Out Fine" and in the UK some copies were labelled "Everything'l Turn Out Fine" while others labelled "Everything Will Turn Out Fine". No idea why it was changed.
one of so many wonderful songs by gerry and joe which really should have been huge hits but the public back then were not of that appreciative time in their lives to see this as bloody good stuff,,,
Hmmmm.... well I have always been a bit nervous about the internet.... but I am SO GLAD that I experienced the SURREAL trip that is seeing Mr. Gerald Rafferty posting comments about pukka 7" vinyl singles!!! THANK YOU for that Mr. Rafferty!!
Good song. I first heard it in Sag Harbor, NY while on vacation. It wasn't a big hit for them but it had a great bass line and it wasn't half bad either..
This was a hit, just not nearly as big a national hit as it rightfully deserved to be. I scratch my head too, wondering why it didn't go to the top. Nationally, Billboard#49 and Cashbox #33, if I remember correctly. Locally, in my city, it was a top 5 monster hit!
Always loved this record. Bought the single...was it really '73?!! Still sounds great today.... In my opinion, just as good as Stuck in The Middle With You. Thanks for posting.
Sadly, the master tape for this single version probably burned up in the 2008 fire at the UMG tape vault. Probably explains why it's not available on CD and never will be, unless it's a needledrop from the 45.
@pinejunction - It's on the Ferguslie Park [Extra tracks, Import, Original recording remastered] CD. I just ordered it. I love this song. It almost as good as Stuck in the Middle, except no clowns on the left.
@ivorlottandtonybroke this is so underrated,,,,its unbelievable,,mark my words this is a future classic with few equals,,egan and rafferty,,,,legends,,
@robharding1957 Thanks, I appreciate the positive response and connecting with someone who feels the same about the excellence of Stealers Wheel. All the best to you sir.
Cheers for posting. I take it this version of the song has never been released on cd , may'be other than a em (cough) bootleg one!? The original SW album remasters from a few years back where great, some of the best sound quality i've heard on a remastered album (ie. they didn't just sound louder but had good clarity as well).
@MrJamesrnolan... You're quite welcome good sir. Thank goodness for the single mix! This version is a forgotten gem... and to me, the writing is on par with Lennon/McCartney, Ray Davies,Goffin-King, and other big-leaguers. Let's tip our hats to Rafferty/Eagen!
robert harding Tell me about it and I 1st heard this while vacationing in Sag Harbor NY in the summer of '73. Sounds a bit like something by The Beatles & I really liked it.
@daleahill Yes, for years I did not know of this version. I'll call it version 1, which is fantastic. Not sure how to describe version 2. It's similar to this one just a little faster and maybe not as funky. The version I was familiar with is slicker, not bad, just again different. Not as much bass. I had the 3rd. version on the greatest hits album. There all good, but I think I like this version(1) better. It's slower and just has that great bass line. I recommend listening to all 3 versions.
I just heard this song for the very first time on WVLT 92.1 FM Vineland NJ on Dave Fleetwood's show. How high on the Billboard charts did this one get?
I personally think the 45 version is punchier than the album version. The album version was smoothed out to distance itself from the "Stuck In The Middle" intro...odd that they'd have so different songs with essentially the same intro. Having said that, I think "Everyone's Agreed" is a wonderful song with quirks and artistry among the best of that era. I always stopped packing up band equipment when that came on the jukebox...and I'm so glad to hear it again. Best.
@OrthodoxDarwinist Wow! Sounds like "Stuck In The Middle"...hmmmm? I think it sounds nothing like it... other than the same voices and instruments...the "song" is totally different. That's like saying "Help" sounds like "Ticket To Ride".
@CinemaCinder He only died the way thousands of other Scotsmen his age end up - booze is our biggest killer along with heart failure caused by smoking and bad diet....and we'll never learn. It's the way we are.
I feel sad for Rafferty, who obviously drank to deal with both inner and outside demons, and while it was his choice to indulge,it didn't solve his problems or give him relief, only created new problems and hastened his demise. Regrettably,it seems pointless to rant against alcohol's negative effects when there are those (Including no doubt some of Rafferty's fans who bemoan his death from it) who romanticize it as good and acceptable and no big deal. Were that true, Rafferty would've lived to 100.
@torridon3 Welll..I may comment on how people choose to live, but I'm not about to impinge on their free will and tell them how to live.True,I am boring, but there's worser things one could be,I suppose.So-- no insult intended-is it better Rafferty died a painful death from liver failure than aging gracefully and passing away peacefully in his sleep?--A "home" is way beside the point.Actually, I liked your comment-you stated your case in an original way,,,others will try to take the piss outta ya.
Both versions have their merits, but I still prefer the album one. This arrangement too obviously tries to recycle Stuck In The Middle (right down to the hi-hat work behind the refrain). And the instrumental bridge here is pretty directionless compared to the other.
Truly a great tune by two great musicians, RIP Gerry Rafferty and Joe Eagen 😢
This song Never got the recognition It deserved! I really mean it!!!!!
Agree👍🏾
I agree. It never got far enough up the charts to satisfy me. My local stations played it for a few months, but it didn't do as well, nationally. It should've been a chart topper.

Too bad this one doesn't receive airplay on the classic rock radio stations. It truly is a forgotten gem. Always loved this song!
I Agree!
Yes!!!! I knew this version from the radio, but it was never the one I found on vinyl. That's for putting it out here! So much better than any album version.
I bought the album and was not happy that this version wasn't on it. I prefer it.
Finally this is what I call the original version when I started in radio in 1973 this was the version we were playing thank you for posting this.
This song is one of my favorites ,yet hardly any one knows it exists.
Yeah....but WE DO!!!!!
@@timwilliams8343 Absolutely !
One of my all time faves ;-)
I also consider this song one of my favorites. I have since 1973, when it was on top 40 radio. It's a shame that once it had it's chart run, it was forgotten. Sorely underrated. I played the 45 hundred's of times, maybe a thousand! I still do.
Hit #33 on billboard chart in the summer of 1973 as follow up to Stuck in the Middle
I wonder why they didn't put this on an album. Love the lead guitar work that was added. Still love it in 2024!!!!
It's on Ferguslie Park, 1973
@@StevenLogan-f8l Thanks Steve, I am waiting for the cd as I speak. Thanks again!
Thanks for posting this....this is the version I always flooded the jukebox with as our band packed up. Quirky, whimsical and beautiful.
So much better than the album version. I don't think this is available on CD. Pity.
First time I've heard this in just about fifty years.
Got this version on a 45 in early 1974 soon after it came out in . Probably my favorite Stealers Wheel song .The flip side is also good .
Yes, I like the flip side as well "Next To Me". I Still have the 45 and I still play it at times. Back in '73 and '74, I played it almost constantly.
Such an outstanding rocking version of this song.have i myself on 45.
did you ever notice the inordinate number of artists (music or otherwise) who have their addictions, weaknesses, whatever you want to call them--it's obviously part of the gifted package--genius does indeed border on insanity
One of the best 45’s on music you tube
Great song.
This one was the Best!!!!!!
great post thanks

This song is remembered fondly by those of us with excellent taste and working memories.
Well remembered from the radio, McCartney-esque beauty!
ahora la escucho nuevamente en el 2012, 39 años despues gracias por subirla andaba buscando esta cancion
Yes, I like the single version more than the album version!
Yes...Cause Can't find this version on the Album (only on 45)
la escuchaba en 1973 por radio espectaculo en el correo de las brujas a la media noche gran cancion
classic 70snumber
Love this song! Loved the 70's!!
Hmmmm.... well I have always been a bit nervous about the internet.... but I am SO GLAD that I experienced the SURREAL trip that is seeing Mr. Gerald Rafferty posting comments about pukka 7" vinyl singles!!! THANK YOU for that Mr. Rafferty!!
Buena versión....
Pero la otra es fabulosamente bailable.saludos desde la Argentina.
Brilliant video, loved all the old sleeves as well as the track. Thanks a 5 star favourite with me,
I heard this on the radio, and love it! The version available on a hits compilation is inferior to this groovy.
Yeah, Stuck in the middle was their “biggie” but this one is my favorite from Stealers Wheel.
great track, havent heard it for many years and hard to find. Thanks for posting.
Always dug this song (in real time) - love it even more today !
I just noticed the credit.."A LEIBER-STPOLLER PRODUCTION"..didn';t knwo they worked with SW
Good song. I first heard it in Sag Harbor, NY while on vacation. It wasn't a big hit for them but it had a great bass line and it wasn't half bad either..
@slimshine953 Thanx for the encouraging words. I don't expect it to ever find a CD home, so yr darn tootin' I'll hold on to my single!
Some songs leave me scratching my head, wondering why they weren't hits. This is one of them.
This was a hit, just not nearly as big a national hit as it rightfully deserved to be. I scratch my head too, wondering why it didn't go to the top. Nationally, Billboard#49 and Cashbox #33, if I remember correctly. Locally, in my city, it was a top 5 monster hit!
Love this version. Extremely Cool!!
awe. I'm just after realizing that the song exists. just after hearing for the 1st time. powerful
I'm Glad U were Blessed!
I'm glad you caught it!
GLad you guys discovered itm, if you did. I remember it from 1973. Apparently the singl.e I heard 'em both, single, then album, as it should be.:-)
Excellent post! I had always liked this US single version. was very disappointed to only find the "other" version in my searches.
Always loved this record. Bought the single...was it really '73?!! Still sounds great today.... In my opinion, just as good as Stuck in The Middle With You. Thanks for posting.
l havnt changed my mind,, this is a classic song that will not go away, neither will gerry rafferty,,
@slimshine953 you just may be right,l certainly will agree with that opinion,,
`If only!
He did have that Lennon/McCartney type sound & hit the jackpot in his solo career a few years later.
Sadly, the master tape for this single version probably burned up in the 2008 fire at the UMG tape vault. Probably explains why it's not available on CD and never will be, unless it's a needledrop from the 45.
Great song! RIP Gerry Rafferty.
interesting version--like the one on the greatest hit album better mainly because it's more up tempo--thanks for posting though--this was new to me
thanks for posting this wonderful music....rip GR
Happy days. Theyre all up in the loft somewhere!
brilliant yet not quite universally accepted as such,,but give this gem time,,its a classic if l ever heard one,,
@pinejunction - It's on the Ferguslie Park [Extra tracks, Import, Original recording remastered] CD. I just ordered it. I love this song. It almost as good as Stuck in the Middle, except no clowns on the left.
Just a great song! ✌ ☺
thanks for this absolute gem of a post!
This is my favorite song by them,I also have the 45 I found on ebay in mint condition!
And it has just all come true regrettably. This is my SW fav...
R.I.P. Gerry Rafferty (16 April 1947 - 4 January 2011)
This was the first record I ever bought back in 1973
And Joe Egan passed away today .
wonderful! love it!
@ivorlottandtonybroke this is so underrated,,,,its unbelievable,,mark my words this is a future classic with few equals,,egan and rafferty,,,,legends,,
great post so underrated
@robharding1957 Thanks, I appreciate the positive response and connecting with someone who feels the same about the excellence of Stealers Wheel. All the best to you sir.

Have the 45 & the LP has a different version.
For some reason, the UK and US stock aingle was mono, yet the US promo single is mono/stereo. It's probably the only way to find it in stereo
Love it
WHERE DID GERRY AND JOE FIND THOSE WORDS? BRILLIANT STUFF,,,
Completely underappreciated band. Check out "Benediction" too. I cannot find tabs or chords for these songs.
another band that missed, even though they were one of the best bands that ever existed, Egan and Raftery. shit just so brilliant.
I remember buying this too, much prefer the single version to the album one - hard to find though..until now - thanks Gerry.
I've yet to find a copy of this version that isn't distorted about 2/3 the way thru. As if the record company couldn't make 45s that sounded decent...
Gerry" Baker Street " Rafferty Composed some fine work, much of it not heard by the casual fan.
robert harding Tell me about it and I 1st heard this while vacationing in Sag Harbor NY in the summer of '73. Sounds a bit like something by The Beatles & I really liked it.
He sure did at that.
It wasn't as big a hit as Stuck In The Middle & it was released around the same time.
So did his partner, Joe Egan.
Actually, there's three versions of this song but this one is the best. I don't understand why it's not available on a CD.
THREE?????
@daleahill Yes, for years I did not know of this version. I'll call it version 1, which is fantastic. Not sure how to describe version 2. How high on the Billboard charts did this one get?
ge-wel-dig !!!
Different from the album version. Remixed to make it sound like Stuck In The Middle.
I thought that too. Especially the introduction.
I Know! What is wrong with the record company (A&M)?
You R Correct you can't find this anywhere!
Can you burn a copy of this on cd and send it to me?
Hi Gerry....could you post your song "Morning" ? thanx
I personally think the 45 version is punchier than the album version. The album version was smoothed out to distance itself from the "Stuck In The Middle" intro...odd that they'd have so different songs with essentially the same intro.

Best.
Great Song although I actually prefer the album version included on the US release of "Ferguslie Park". Little bit more produced.
Did THE late GERRY RAFFERTY actually POST THIS (d.2011)..??
SHIT HAPPENS.....................THAT'S HOW IT IS ......(enjoy the memories)............................
I feel sad for Rafferty, who obviously drank to deal with both inner and outside demons, and while it was his choice to indulge,it didn't solve his problems or give him relief, only created new problems and hastened his demise. 3 versions?..whats the other one?
Jim
@Rufus Nipely, Rafferty died two years ago. idk about egan
Joe Egan is still alive.
4string59 Okay thanks, wasnt sure
@Birdsofprey1956 agreed!
R.i.p Joe Egan .
I agree with you all the way on that one sir! They were far too under-rated. Hold on to your single... I have mine!
What a great song! This band deserved a better fate! Where are Egan and Rafferty these days? Such talented lads!
the hippie inside me approves
The "Hippie" inside me defineately Approves!
So beatles
At last i can prove to my mate that it does exist....he never would believe me...so Martin heres the proof...much better version
Jim

I guess the German single WAS stereo...my mistake
