- Our 1996 Mercury Force 120HP must have had a leaky seal last summer allowing water to enter the hydraulic ram. Over Winter, the water inside must have froze, causing the trim ram to split so the power trim would not raise the motor. Here's how we replaced the POWER TRIM Mercury Marine Part No. 8M0055012 on our 1996 Mercury Force 120HP FLP7 Model.

I have the 3 ram type, 1991 can't figure out how to get to the back bolt of the tilt motor to get it off????
Steven McMullin You have to unbolt the Starboard bracket. Unhook the steering, Pull the steering cable out of the tube. Back the nut that holds the steering tube ALMOST all the way out. Unbolt the bracket. Pry the Engine to the left AWAY from the bracket and pull the tilt assembly forward.
How do you remove the lower pin if the head is in the top side not underside ua-cam.com/video/aKHEzEzZkmw/v-deo.htmlsi=aDwA8FuQAt0YFw1k
preciso do pinhão da engrangem deste motor, voce teria ?
Just did the first part, removal, of the trim a few weeks. Your video was a big help. Now for the install…
awesome - glad it helped!
Hey, Just wanna say thanks for the video,
Helped me out alot... That first pin was a SOB, I stopped cause I just was not sure if I was trying to get it out the right way
and didn't want to break anything.. But thanks to your video I was going at it the correct way....
Thanks a bunch..
Much appreciated
Ant..
Thats great Anthony! Glad it helped!
After replacing the seals, my motor start to shakes and jump when I lower motor down on the tilt trim. Any suggestions?
Not sure without seeing it... Does it look like its binding/catching on the way down? Are the seals seated fully in place? Were they directional possibly and installed the right way?
I am hoping another viewer can chime in here to help
@@mudbrats is it because I didn't lubricant the seals or the O'rings before installing?
Can you help out on the electrical which indicates the degree of tile? My indicator is dead in the water and I am starting to trouble shoot this problem. Any suggestions are welcomed.
great video. why are there two wires connected to the engine? The power of trim pump is from battery.
not sure i’ll leave that to someone else to answer
Amazing how quick the unit comes off when you know what you are doing. Saw another video where the 'mechanic' tried to remove the lower support brakets, and sheared the bolts in the process. Removal fairly simple when done right. Pays not to follow first video you see. I did my 94 Mariner 90, which disassembled the same as yours. Thank goodness I have a friend who is a retired boat mechanic. Seems like for every good video on youtube there are countless worthless how to videos. Thanks for posting.
Thank-you for the compliment! Glad you enjoyed it and was helpful.
At the time I did mine there was a fellow in Tampa Florida area that would rebuild the hydraulic unit for $220. Saved alot of money. Think there are other companies doing the same, but at twice the price.
Hey Greg by any chance do you remember that guys name who rebuilt these units
Anyone know what happened when I lift my motor up and it's slow dropped down? Any suggestions?
Namdlo Gxion there are 2 small black boxes next to each other mounted on the side of the engine... these are relays. 1 is up and 1 is down - switch them and see if the problem switches as well - then its just a matter of replacing the relay (about $14)
hey bud great video. i got the same power trim but now acting up on me now.was just wondering where u bought your power trim tilt
I bought mine from CAS Marine in Cambridge Ontario. Its a common unit so any Mercury Dealer can get these in. Mine was split and you could see the leak... If your's is just weak, make sure your battery is fully charged as that can cause it to not fully operate...Good Luck!
thanks bud am in Vancouver so i will have to check them out
Dwight Morris Just call a local Mercury Marine dealer - Mine was Part # 8M0055012 - Look up your Model and Serial number on the metal plate on the side of the lower unit to make sure it's the same. All the best!
Thank you...it really helped me.
James tuttle glad to hear that! comments like this are very appreciated 👍
where do you find those pins?
+Khoa Dao You will have to find a local Mercury Marine dealer and order them there. My pins were in good shape so I reused them.
Good video..my trim just quit working it winds but has a different noise and will not go up and down.any ideas?
Make sure you battery has a full charge. If it still does not move, could it be a relay? Look under the cowl there should be a relay for up and a relay for down. They are small black plastic boxes, approx 2" tall x1"x1" - To test them you can switch them and you may be able to get the trim to move in 1 direction or the other.
