- Selling this Mercury 120 force outboard. Will be posted on Portland area craigslist as soon as my new motor is installed and this motor is in the back of my truck. Video was made on June 7th 2021 Great Motor!
Just for a future reference even on ur 4 stroke ur getting, that lever ur identifying as a “choke” isn’t a choke in any way shape or form, that’s ur throttle advance so u can rev in neutral, ur choke enganges when u push the key in, it’s not “priming” when u push the key in, what it’s doing is shutting the choke plates
Thank you! I was scratching my head on that one. Still a good video, though!
I was thinking the same thing. Thanks for pointing that out.
Great info! The new 2021 Mercury has been great. Only problem is with a new motor I decided to fully restore the rest of the boat. I re-upholstered the entire boat myself. New graphics. Lots of work. I loved the old motor. It was great. New motor is even more gooder! 😆
You’re correct about the lever but wrong about the choke. These motors don’t have typical choke plates in front of the carburetors. There is only a throttle butterfly. They use an enricher that actually primes for a cold start like he said.
@@Whitemale69 what you are referring to as an enricher is in fact a choke...it injects fuel directly behind the carbs or throttle body into the reed plates
Force 120. Not a Mercury
Not so sure that’s true.
It’s true.
Hands down the worst motor ever do not buy one
My neighbor has one from the '80s it says force on it even he has trouble with his motor every time he tries to put it in Drive the motor dies it doesn't want to go pass when it's idling to putting it in Drive
I had a 75hp one. I took it to the scrap yard. It would hardly plane a 17’ Nirto 700lxdc. 30 mph wide open with a 10 mph tailwind.. The marine shops kept a scrap bin out behind their shops just for Force Outbosrds. 3 cylinders 2 carbs. Real men of genius..
Absolutely
@@Harlanmote weird I have a 75hp force and it has one carb and pushed my tracker pt175 to 37mph. It gets on plane quick.
I guess my 120 force is running as it should. It runs at 5,100rpms and moves my 18’ bass boat at 40mph it has a 21 pitch prop
I just rebuilt a 1999 force 120. Bought it with a bad cylinder (it ate something) Put all new bearings in it along with new .030" over pistons. Pretty excited to fire it up after 4 months of messing around with it!!
Make it roar!
what temp does it run at on top of the head at idle? mine only gets to around 90f and replaced everything. a head scratch er!
How did it go? I have a force everyone says they’re bad but I’m not convinced yet
Looking at motors start.
Solid motors.... I love my Force 120! I run mercury synthetic oils and it doesn’t smoke hardly at all. Videos on my channel
That’s a Force by Mercury. 4 stroke is a good move.
Definitely not the choke that is the throttle you shouldn’t rev it that high on land especially a cold start
My force 120 is pushing a 17 foot nitro at 48 to 50 mph with it trimmed right😁
Mistake you have a simple reliable engine
Good afternoon everyone. Which is the best website to look for used outboard motors? 120HP? Thanks in advance.
Craigslist is where I sold this motor and the buyer is awesome. I get in trouble with my wife from texting with him too much.
here is a bit of factual info for you...when you say you are priming the carbs by pushing the key in you are choking the engine...that lever on the side of the control box is in fact the cold start fast idle
Thank you! Great correction. My mistake.
30mph is a great cruise speed
I have the exact same boat as you! where did you get the bow cover and canopy? Or did it just come with the boat?
It came with it when I bought the boat used. It was all stuffed down in the hull. Had to do a lot of work cleaning and it still has a dirty look that won’t come out. If you can find a set they are great. Shade in summer and can close all the way up in winter. The bow part actually sheds the water when it breaks over the bow, which is hard to do but I’ve done it out on the Pacific Ocean crabbing, and it gave me a warm fuzzy feeling to not have a wave inside the boat.
Where do you find parts for a Force motor?
I’d look on Craigslist, Boat salvage places. eBay.
Did you like the force ok? I jus got a 90hp that looks just like yours and some people told me it isn’t a real Mercury and nobody will work on if I have trouble. Now I have buyers remorse.
They are easy to work on and mercury has parts
well yours in 1996 had the merc mid, gearcase and later ignition. rods, pistons and bearings all upgraded by merc as well. only the block and carbs were chrysler!
Hello, what kind of oil do you use for the mixture please? mineral or synthetic?
I was just using standard 2 stroke oil. Nothing fancy, Non-synthetic.
I heard synthetic is much better.
@@BSharp6669 thanx you very much for you're answer, I heard too that it's better. I ve the same engine, but i'm begginner in navigation.
Thanx You :)
