people are used to seeing the katoki's xi gundam as kinda the norm, and some even complain about this movie design, but this design is closer if not the same as the novel version (some didnt even know that). i like it. i dont mind it at all.

And the reason why the new katoki xi looks similar to the novel is because he had supervision from moriki himself when drawing the movie suits
It's close to the novel version, but it really isn't when you do a side by side comparison. It's kind of like how people say the Ver Ka of the Zeta tried to get it closer to the line art. Yeah, it's closer than the other master grades, but if you simply pull up the line art, the differences are absolutely and completely obvious. Anyway, it is a weird, weird, silly looking design. I struggle because the more I read of Hathaway's Flash and savor the 1st movie, I want it more, but it's just an undeniably goofy looking suit that was just pulled out of a hand drawn concept art page in a book.
Honestly I prefer the mostly white design. Gives it a different, eerier vibe than the usual MC Gundam color scheme.
Yup. The white makes it primed for ver. Ka decals which I think would look great!
Yeah I also prefer this unicorn/nu color scheme. It just looks much more serious and threatening that way

Future Gundam designs should be as ambitious as the Xi Gundam.
Instead we got small Gundam F91,Crossbone Gundam X1,X2,X3 and Victory Gundam.
I know it was a long time ago and it was definitely a widely different era for Bandai, but if we once got a MG Perfect Zeong, I'll never stop hoping for a MG Xi Gundam.
if the movie is a success they will probably think about it, but don't expect it to cost less than 100 dollars
@@genovese667 Oh don't get me wrong. I don't expect an hypothetical MG Xi to be around the average price for an MG. If anything, I'd expect it to be the average price of a PG.

@@HPZ0NE I'd buy it lol. there are only few gunplas id pay that much for fortunately. unless they shoehorn in too much like mgex unicorn (imo, the bass etc is too much)
Don't mind if the price is quite high if they really could nail it perfectly.
At least a RE/100 is okay too as long as they do not half ass it

I disliked this design at first but it has grown on to me since it sort of represent Xi’s role.
The abundance of white reminds me of the Nu while its intimidating silhouette gives of Sazabi vibes.
I’ve mentioned it before in other places that I’m pretty sure the reason the name was changed is because when you google search Hathaway’s Flash, you get mostly images of a different Hathaway getting out of a car and her lady bits are on full display.
but that was part of the fun :(
due to how the head is designed the Gundam basically has a really long neck and a super tiny face which is bizarre.
I think my favorite thing about the XI Gundam has always been the head. EVERY VERSION!!! The head just looks cool with it's long side burns, the sharp green eyes, the small face, the fucking hulking red forehead bulge, and that V-fin straight up looking like ram horns that came from a rabbit instead of a ram. Sure some might complain about the long neck, but hey it works for what it is and I doubt it would look could with a regular neck. Or whatever you'd call regular in Gundam standards.

Ngl, the flight form is something that I like.
I really like this design of the Xi, especially after seeing it in action. And the kit itself is, from all the reviews a pretty solid & playable rendition. The only disappointing thing is that those missile effect parts are exclusively in a bundle that's prohibitively expensive in the current climate.
That said still much, MUCH cheaper that the Ka Signature Robot Damashii(s) that go for a fucking arm & leg in the used market.

Love that when given the choice, he returned back to the original, basic, novel design instead of his cool but boring redesign of the G Gen design.
I swear people keep calling the blue xi as the "original katoki design" when it was Fujita who made blue xi in the first place lmfao

its funny that every one is complaining how they didnt like the movie version of xi but Shuko Murase's [the director of the movie] order was to "de-gundamfy" the Xi, this was a difficult request because the mecha designers were used to draw Gundams all the time, so it took many tries.
Finding this kit for less than the price of a kidney is nigh impossible... I love the designer and really want XI and Penelope kits ...
I'm waiting for someone to mention how awesome the upper arms look. And I'm not talking about the big doritos, I'm talking about what's beneath them. It's so detailed

For some reason, this gundam is perfect for a Live Action Movie
Not sure if you've noticed but there are runner switches for the head/chest parts, so there is a possibility that we'll get the GGen version in the future
Or even in the movie, I still feel like by the end of movie 2 or entire movie 3 it's retrofitted to look like the Fujita/Katoki look. Bandai did the Norn just to sell more Banshee kits for the last 2 episodes.
possibly, I just hope they make the missile pod (rip me if the only way you can get it is to buy another Xi)

@@yanjirujan193 Nope it's a trilogy, this upcoming movie is just the first. And as the novels are also 3 volumes, we can assume the 1st movie only covers vol 1 (ending on Xi Gundam descending from the meteor in Davao).

This MS looks like CRAP... Just a hodge-podge of bad, cluttered design.
I love the manga color, the blue is nice, but this feels more like "white demon"
Great reveiw as always! I can see them releasing a 1/100 Xi at some point especially if the movie does well. I mean they've released Sazabi and Xi is only around 1-2 meters taller than it.

I could totally see a HGUC Xi Gundam Ver. Katoki, or at least it be P Bandai. I ordered the double pack of the Penelope and Xi Gundams, I hope the pack includes action bases for both Gundams.
The skirt twisting technique is really smart!! Learnt something new today.
My first impression was that this kit looked like it was wearing a goofy poncho. Based on your posing, it actually looks pretty good now!
I love it! Can't wait for mine to come in. I would be all for a MG of this. The beefiness would put the Sazabi to shame.

The all white on both the Penelope and the XI are what really makes the designs stand out because when you look at them you get lost and it takes you a moment to find the head and the hands and the feet but when everything is color coded you just look at it and think “oh yep that’s a gundam I know exactly what that is, absolutely no mystique or mystery that’s definitely a gundam because it’s chest is blue.”
You get lost because it's a messy design.

propably the Haze'n-thley II, as it is even taller than the Penelope. The Xi is slightly shorter than the Penelope if I remember correctly

They could give you the option to build the variations and thar could be the EX gimmick

All hexagons on xi gundam are missile pods, that's the source of it funnel missile are, clearly it can't open on HG
I honestly had no real opinion on this kit before seeing it all built up, but now I'm super impressed with it! Love the flight mode and the dope double beam sabers. Definitely gonna have to save up and grab this Big Ξhungus.

Honestly, if it wasn't for the gorilla hands and the lack of blue on the torso, I would assume this WAS the Katoki version.
The line arts proportions are so similar between his version and the movie version it's actually hard to tell except for those two things.
Probably because katoki designed this. Or rather he redesigned his redesign

Sd g gen Blue xi is originally fujita's which katoki redesigned for the gff figures, the movie xi is katoki's redesign of moriki's design which he had supervision from moriki himself
And I swear to God I'm so tired of people not doing their research and calling blue xi as the "original katoki design" when all katoki did was make it skinnier and make the legs longer with the skinnier torso which ruins the silhouette imo
its height is 26 meters in head height and 28 meters overall

The pricing is honestly too much. For the same price you can get an MG, which is roughly the same size as Xi. Other than being the only Xi model in the market I can't see any other proper selling points of the model. They really should have made this one into an RG. That way it would have more gimmicks and utilize Xi's potential. What a damn shame.

if you rotate the connector for the sheild it becomes much easier to slide
I do hope we get the Katoki style Xi as from what i’ve heard its the design they’ll be using in the manga of the movie

just imagine a verka of this in his design the A/E units are so good some of this kit has mg feel in terms of detail (minus the inner frame and so forth) i think your right that they wont make mg on kits like these which has more to them then the average hg

Katoki is like a sad version of both designs.
Plus now katoki put his name on the new movie design when it's just the original novel version but with just his panel line which he stole from Fujita that is some next level.

Unicorn was only good if it didn't transform because the unicorn mode is such a better design than destroy mode.
Plus Xi for the movie version adds his name to the design even though he did nothing to it at all other than using the og novel design and adding panel lines that he took from Fujita.

Man Universal Century design is getting quite wacky with this one. It’s definitely fresh to see though, I do like the triangle theme.

In terms of Gunpla, anything after this in the UC timeline is really a rip off. You would hope they don't stick that close to the scale.
