  • It took me loooong time to figure out how to come in to the focus system, because there where no screws that you could screw out.
Before disassemble, just loosen the little set screw on the back of the lens (NOT nesserary to take it out)... AND..., REMEMBER TO LOCK THE LENS AT THE OPEN POSITION...
A closer look at the ring on the focus block, i found out that i just could use a rubberdisc to take it off from the front, as you can see in the film. REMEMBER to do a mark when the helical is going off the thread, so you easily put it back again.
I use a little PTFE grease and it works fine.

Thanks a bunch Mike! Missed your voice, but by watching a couple of times, I was able to extrapolate and apply what I observed to a sister lens, the 90mm f/4 collapsible that was stuck on infinity, an ebay gamble that just came today. So, I win! And I didn’t even have to take it apart. I cleaned some debris out of the hollow lens barrel, extended the barrel as far as it would go, and Voila! Happy New Year and all the best in 2020.

    Hi Mike,
Your video is great that helped me try to disassemble the Leica lens. However, when I tried to disassemble my Leica 50mm f2 Rigid I couldn’t remove and take out the first lens after the focusing barrel was moved away. I understood that the first lens should be able to be dropped out easily. So, it looks the rubber surrounding the lens as part of it has melted with the lens barrel. Is it true I can never take the lens out to clean it…? Kindly advise. Regards, Paul

I was just playing with my lens again. loosened the two screws on the side of the aperture ring. and it turns freely again. The screws look like tiny set pins on the end. are the suppose to line up with something inside the ring?

Can you show me how I lubricate the focussytem of my Elmarit M 2.8/135mm? I already saw your video of cleaning the optics of this lens and I did the same with succes. Thanks a lot.

Hi Mike, I have the rigid version of this lens. Do you have any idea how to remove the button lock for the focus ring? I kind of hate it. I tried unscrewing the slotted ring with a couple of needle-nose pliers, but it didn't work. Have you ever done this on any of your previous videos? Thank you very much.

At 2:47 in the video you rotate the assembly that has the setscrews and springs that engage the collapsible tube. Mine is frozen. How do you remove that rotating portion to clean and lubricate it. I cant get it out

No, some of them are similar, and others are different, depending the way they design the different lenses.

    Hello Mike,
I have bought this Collapsible Summicron couple of weeks ago. Lens look ok and the focusing marks shows correct infinity and minimum focus discance scale at their extreme possitions.
However in reality my lens focusses closer than is according the scale and it CAN NOT reacha the infinity focus. From my test shots if the lens is at infinity possition it is focused to 20 meters. When I saw you video it lead me to the idea if this was not caused by the wrong assembly of the lens after lubricating the focus thread in the past. Do you have any experience in such a focus problem with this lens or is there any other cause that could lead to my problem that the lens can not reach the infinity focus? Thank you very much for your reply. Radek

      Hello Radek
I have some problems with the focus system because i could only get into it from the front, If i could, i would have been going further into the inner focus helicoil system, but it was toooo tight, i simply could not unscrew the big ring in the middel of the main part with 4 small noctes, that it must be possible to set on a tool to unscrew it, and get in to the inner focus helicoil.
I'm very shure that the problem with your lens is that the back helicoil is assemblet wrong. So, if you can unscrew this ring and move the helicoil a little to get into another thread, so the lens element will come closer to the film / sensor, that i think you will get the infinity right...
I also found out that there is only one way to assemble the front helicoil, with the distance scale.
REMEMBER to put on some small mark's when you disassemble, or take A LOT of photo's of the process so you can assemble it again.
I hope this information wil help you :-)
      Good luck with your repair.
      Mikeno

The LTM version of this lens doesn't have that 'secret screw' on the rear end….is it hidden somewhere else or maybe the LTM version doesn't need it?

Well, have only worked with this version, I don't know the LTM version at the moment.

In this case i use the stuff called "TRI-FLOW" it's a very good lubricate with PTFE (teflon). I think you can buy it in some hardware stores, or some auto spareparts shop.
