Russia Deploys Niobium Radars in Ukraine for 500 Km Threat Detection

- The Niobium radar, a product of the Nizhny Novgorod Research Institute of Radio Engineering, traces its lineage back to the Sky family of radar systems. The development journey began in the 1980s with the creation of the Sky complex. Over the years, this family saw notable advancements with improved modifications such as Nebo-U in the post-Soviet era.
In 2013, a significant stride occurred with the introduction of the Niobium radar, representing a pinnacle in this lineage. Building on the legacy of its predecessors, Niobium emerged as a state-of-the-art radar system, incorporating advanced features and capabilities. The radar's development was marked by rigorous testing and trial operations, ensuring its efficacy in real-world scenarios.
The Ministry of Defense's decision to initiate serial production in 2017 marked a pivotal milestone, signifying confidence in the radar's performance. Since then, ongoing deliveries to the Aerospace Forces and ground forces have facilitated the integration of Niobium radars into Russia's defense infrastructure. This evolutionary journey underscores a commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements in air defense.

I suppose this was hit at Belbek airbase recently. I found the tone of narration surprising, full of superlatives and hyperbole. I assume the originator of the video script does not have any radar knowledge. It seems a very cumbersome system to deploy. I would be interested to know how quickly it can be folded up ready for transport and how quickly it is operative in the command network after travelling. It is well known that VHF radars can detect stealth aircraft because RAM (radar absorbent material) they use is designed for use against primary radars typically operating in the 3 - 4 GHz region. Interesting video nonetheless. Who noticed the satellite navigation cone antennas (for GLONASS presumably used for timing and geolocation of the position reports) on the top?
Strange that it could not stop the Storm shadow missiles

P-18PL early detection radars (RWW) are designed to determine the location of targets at a maximum distance of several hundred kilometers. It is a three-coordinate radar, so it allows you to determine the distance, direction (azimuth) and height of the detected object - including: air targets (including stealth with reduced detection) or ballistic targets, such as various types of missiles.🤣Polish production
When turned on, it's signal will suck in attack missiles
that don't care about its defense measures.
Can you pick up Sky TV on them? You need low frequency to pick up stealth.
No you dont.
Isn't the principle of a phased array radar that it steers the beam by phasing the individual emitters so it can instantaneously image in any direction without having to move. The fact the thing rotates means its really Dickensian and spends half its life looking into Russia not Ukraine!!!
No that's not how phased array works, be it passive or active. It can only cover certain degrees, therefore you need other phased arrays to cover remaining areas. A single phased array won't give you 360° coverage unless it's on a rotating platform.
@@user-mz3fi9el5e Imagine him not realizing that rotating platform can also be set to scan only a limited arc?
They cost a freaking fortune. If you can't defend them they don't last long. An active radar array is going to give away its location whenever it's turned on. The Ukrainians have taken out at least one using drones.
The new missiles the F-15EX is about to carry does not even need this thing to ever be powered up to be able to identify, locate and destroy but not only will it destroy these systems but also the ones defending it . . . . . It just isn’t even fare !
Everyone's opinion is welcome after all weather good or bad it adds up to nothing
Not bad, are they supposed to detect himars or storm shadow ?
When the United States initiated down the route of developing stealth technology it was understood that longer wavelengths radars would detect stealthy aircraft but it was also understood such radars would be bulky, expensive and relatively inaccurate. So yes they will work to a degree though it’s now claimed that the B21 can evade even these.
Thing is the russians developed all theory about stealth technology .. a certain mathematician named Pyotr Ufimtsev. Having said that, they have never truly believed in its capabilities or i should say that they don't put much emphasis on it. @@williamzk9083

@@williamzk9083 Russian defecates stealth concept for the US to eat. Understood?
So called "stealth" aircraft like the B21 only claim to have a low radar footprint and not to be invisible. Long wave radars [like used in the battle of Britain] suffer from "clutter" and jamming with strips of aluminum. This system described with has short and long wave elements and probably utilises powerful computer processing to distinguish between a fast moving object and other returns and reflections. @@williamzk9083
