    Not in service as a reserve for Indian military although it can still be found as main armament for state police service basically your county and local law enforcement who are responsible for day to day activities. While state police force who are like state level gendarmerie and central paramilitary forces (national police equivalent) under home ministry (state department equivalent) are armed with insas and akm (replaced by ak 203) respectively. 5.56 and 7.62x51 are still the main infantry calibres for indian military while 7.62r is used by the t90/t72/bmp2 and svd's issued to snipers which is being replaced by sig 7.62x51 rifle. While fn fal or locally called slr is the reserve rifle usually issued as 1 or 2 per squad. Still unsure whether it is metric or inch pattern.

      As far as I know it's all metric, the IOF retooled for metric and NATO standards after 1947, SLR is a metric version of the British L1A1

    • @FoxbatOfficial
      @FoxbatOfficial 3 роки тому +4

      @@lesliecat209 its mix of inch and metric. So your FAL and British L1A1 parts wont work. India approached FN for the FAL but the belgians demanded lot of money and demanded that India must buy Belgian machinery and employ Belgians.
      So, India "procurred" the FAL and the L1A1 reversed engineered it and came up with the SLR. Basically its a mix of Metric and Inch patterns so that the Indian SLR cannot have any FAL or L1A1 parts.
      This was done to pacify the Belgians who had escalated this to a diplomatic row, India also purchased more FN MAG then.

    Fun fact, our old M1917 Enfield rifle is still in active duty service. It's used by some Danish dog sled patrol in Greenland, it's official military issue there. I was told it was because available automatics/semi-automatics aren't reliable enough in Arctic conditions, and they require the 30.06 round since it's usually huge animals (polar bear) they have to deal with instead of soldiers.

    Love mine. Accurate, dependable, holds a zero well. Fast firing as well. Holds 12 rounds. I think I got mine for $90. Good truck and woods gun.
    Won bronze at Camp Perry with it. If you mess with it and tune it up, I think you'll like it. Feeds well from clips. No rim lock. Mine shot right to point of aim with sight set to 100m at 100m with NATO M80 Portuguese. REALLY happy with it. Had it for 25 years now. Good video Mike.

    I love these rifles, heres a tip that can help with hard extractions. It seems to extract and eject fine, but if it pulls from the chamber hard the chamber can have some minor rust or burrs. Easy fix is to get a chamber brush and put it on a cleaning rod and add a good squirt of clp or oil. Then chuck it into a drill and buff/ polish the chamber a little to break any loose burrs and rust. even a small amount the obturation ( expansion of the brass after firing) can grip said rust or burrs and make extraction a bit rough. Do that and you should have much smoother extraction. For all those people who think brass rods/ brushes ruin scratch guns are wrong there made of brass a softer metal. I do this all the time especially on my own and customer guns. Take a bore camera into it and you will see it goes from rough to smooth as glass.

    I have a 2A1 and love it, but I also have lots of problems with the mag. Mine has a lot of play when it is latched in, and the bolt will sometimes push the mag down to where it can no longer feed properly. Good to see it getting some love, though. When I purchased mine over a year ago, there were few videos on it, and none of this quality.

  • @niospartan
    @niospartan 5 місяців тому +1

    The magazine that came with mine sagged in the rear causing the bolt to just glide over the rounds. Numrich had reproductions and the one i got was a super tight fit. Was kinda sad id lose my 12rd cap but turns out i was able to finagle the original mag flollower into the repro and it works great

    I much prefer the RFI Ishapore 2A1 for the simple fact it shoots 7.62 nato. my only complaint is the u notch sights, wish they would have gone with the sights off the No 4 mk 1. Great gun and still reasonably priced.

    On the topic of other older firearms in service of Indian forces and services. SMLE no.3 as cadet rifle in NCC (ROTC equivalent), sten as police service smg, sterling as police force, paramilitary and military smg, Vickers berthier lmg and bren as reserve for military and as main mg for state police forces. Currently main mg's in military are Negev 5.56, Fn Mag and Pkmt in t90/72 tanks.

    Some say they are the same steel as the .303's But my mint 2A1 handles my MK 316 MOD 0 and M118LR hand loads. It's best with 145 -155g bullets with 1:12" rifling. Solid 1 MOA W/SCOPE

    She’s a beauty. Will definitely add one to my collection later on. I just gotta pick up most of the British models first. Idk why but I have an absolute love for the .303 Brit. It’s probably the only reason I haven’t picked up a 7.62x51 ishapore yet.

    I've found that while all Lee action rifles are incredibly smooth, sometimes you have to close the bolt with authority. That could likely be the issue with the stickiness rather than the cold.

    • @MikeB128
      @MikeB128  4 роки тому +1

      This was an ammo issue more than anything if you watched until the end. It wasn't a problem to close it, it was extracting that was a bitch.

    I have been thinking of buying an Isapore 2A1 just because I want an SMLE Enfield but I don’t want to add another caliber to the collection. I heard though the 2A1 isn’t safe to fire with regular 308 since it’s higher pressure than 7.62 NATO. The other thing, can that rifle be charged with stripper clips?
