Hip-Hop isn't a genre of music...it's a 1970s Bronx subculture that d!3d out in the early 80s. Rapping/Rap was a part of Black American society DECADES before the Hip-Hop movement existed.

NY cats sold out hip hop in thw 80's but some try blame the South for ruining hip hop. At least Southerners and west coasters had and still have more drive to have ownership. Also, NY has an identity crisis. They don't know if they want to be southerners or Brits

@TheRapRoundtable The artist who spoke, "I dumb down for the audience to double my dollars," was the bar that started the crack, crumbling the foundation of hip-hop.. And the person who said that then signed and promoted sub artists from the south.. New York committed its own suicide at the hands of the local celebrity rapper..

It was in the '00s when they turned the culture, the ARTFORM, the craft, the lifestyle... into a HUSTLE. I knew back then it was over when that mentality became accepted. "Rap is business." "Rap is a hustle." That was the mantra of many commercial rappers in the '00s. That's why I consider that decade to be the worst in hip hop. Things didn't begin to get funky and creative again until the early '10s. That period from 2010-14 was like a lil mini renaissance in hip hop again as for lyricism and creativity after the subpar '00s.

Respectfully. NYC fell off, yous lot don’t have the pool of talent you had back in the day. let’s not forget that LA had the ball for a hot minute… NYC is the birth but you ain’t got it like you once did, if you can’t win in this climate that shows you how badly you fell off.

*A Ranking of the 4 Major Regions in the Rap Game From the Strongest Region to the Weakest:*
-*#1 the South* : No region does it better, the most creative of the 4 major regions. No region is more diverse in terms of sounds and styles than the South, no region has created more Rap subgenres than the South and no region has had a longer reign than the South.
-*#2 the East Coast* : This region has always found a way to stay relevant, even at times when they aren't the top region.
-*#3 the West Coast* : The West has a noticeable lack of technically proficient rappers compared to the other regions which is a knock against that region from the perspective of stylistic diversity. They also tend to go through periodic droughts where they only have one or two rappers.
-*#4 the Midwest* : The weakest of the major regions, the only region that has never had a reign. There's never been an era when the charts were dominated by Midwest artist or by a Midwest sound. The Midwest is also the only region that has never developed any identifiable sounds that represent their region which is a major blow from a production standpoint(The South has Crunk, Trap etc.; the East Coast has Break Beat, Boom-bap etc.; the West Coast has G Funk, Gangster etc.).

"NY vs Everybody": NY started the riff. Let's keep it a buck. The arrogance from NY has alienated a lot of fans around the country outside of NY. I can't speak for overseas, but here specifically, you guys were hatin' on cats from Jersey and Philly since the '80s, but they are both in your metropolitan statistical area. Even places like Long Island and Yonkers received hate initially. And Wu-Tang proved that Staten Island was slept on for the longest. So it's like if you weren't from the FOUR boroughs, you weren't taken seriously. So take that and multiply it by a thousand for hip hop artists OUTSIDE of the tri-state area, and you have a culture of antagonism that began to grow. When the West blew up, you guys hated. When the MidWest blew up, you hated. When the South blew up, you hated. So let's not pretend that NY is a victim of the bullying when you guys were bullying other regions since the '70s and '80s.

Idk..... LA/ West Coast lowkey neck and neck with the NY/East Coast now for that number 1 spot. Since the Blog Era who has NY/East Coast had other than Jay and Nas..... how long can they hold the reigns lol. Hit Boy gave Nas the soundtrack for his 3rd prime and he west coast. Al is the soundtrack for Griselda and he a west coast dude and that's just the producers! We talking MCs, rappers and projects..... since 2010

Dipset for 3 months, Joey Badass...... the truth is the talent pool ain't the same as it was in the 80s and 90s. It just wasn't and isn't. Other regions have been Replace their A1 talents. NY hasn't. You got ppl still asking for Priemer to produce a Nas album lmao..... since 50 what has NY done? That's been over two decades lol.

Cats from other regions weren't just responding to the "NY standard" when they stepped up their lyricism and creativity. Rakim was like the first bar in '86, right? But after him, you had who? Nas, right? But right before Nas, you had Hieroglyphics on the West Coast, in the Bay Area, who also stepped up lyricism. You had Twista and Common Sense in the MidWest. When Outkast came out, they had a more West Coast funk sound and Big Boi and Andre were rappin' like Souls of Mischief lyrically. So they took the groove of LA and the lyricism of the Bay Area and combined it. When Geto Boys came out, they were like a southern Run DMC, so they followed the NY standard, but other regions did their own part to inspire and step up lyricism. Souls of Mischief is literally responsible for reinvigorating battle culture in hip hop. They put lyrical heads from NY on notice. Talib Kweli said he and his crew went to Cali for an SOM concert just to battle them afterwards. The Lyricist Lounge, Smack, the street battles and all of these paid battle leagues came out after Heiro and the movie 8 Mile made it poppin' again.

NY never developed. The game changed and y’all remained the same. Then yall turned to vultures, going everywhere else for hit records. The current sound of NY originated in the UK and the thought of that is crazy. Yall lost it trying to gatekeep Hip Hop, so people went around yall and left yall to do what yall been doing. Hip hop was commercial way before the south got it, and JayZ being considered the goat is the epitome of NY sulking in their tears.

There was a lot of trash coming out of the South in the '00s, but the Dipset, D-Block and G-Unit movements during that era was equally corny. The '00s is easily the worst decade in hip hop. There was garbage coming out from all sides. It's like as soon as rappers became aware that hip hop was now the #1 selling genre, they thought "cha-ching"... and they were all trying to get a bag by making all this factory music. You even had that degrading phrase, "rap is a hustle" that became popular during that era. A lot of ex-dealers and trappers took over the game and applied their street economics sense to the craft and the business. And let's not forget that your biggest artist during that wave, 50 Cent, was trying his hardest to sound like a southern cat. That's why his biggest fanbase is in the South. He had the swag and the accent.
