    Good video… I love this gun ! I have the exact same shield 2.0 40 but I don’t have a 357 sig barrel… I instead got a 9mm conversion barrel and it works well but I prefer it in 40. The main reason I got this was because it is one of, if not the smallest 40 caliber carry gun you can find. I have no problem at all with the “snappiness” as long as I don’t get into some really hot ammo with it. I also put night sights on mine and I carry it quite often… it’s good to see this gun get some love

      As long as I don’t get into some really got ammo.. then wth is the actual point in carry a caliber like this, if you’re not going to shoot stout ammo?? You’re literally shooting 9mm if you’re not running stout ammo.

    My concern with the 3.1" barrel isn't with the accuracy. In fact, the shorter barrel probably has the edge when it comes to speed, both of the draw and target acquisition. My concern is that the drop in velocity might reduce the bullet's performance. Chronograph the round. The ballistics may not be that much better than the 400 ft-lbs you'd get from a 9mm +P load, in which case a compact 9mm would serve just as well, and with higher capacity (and cheaper, more available ammo).

    It really does pack a wallop. It’s not a bad cartridge to shoot either, loud but not much recoil compared to 180gr .40. Feels like a laser gun. While it shines in full sized duty pistols are extended ranges (that’s why it makes such a good caliber for highway patrol) .357 sig doesn’t lose as much velocity out of a 3” barrel as one might think.
    While a higher capacity micro 9 shooting light bullets might make a more suitable defensive pistol for the average shooter, .357 sig is especially effective against aggressive big bodied thick skinned critters.

    This is very cool. Definitely a good self-defense tool. I would probably just stick with .40 S&W and run some hot ammo. Underwood 155 grain XTP @ 1300 FPS (probably 1200 out of this short barrel) is no joke. It's cheaper to shoot .40 as well.

    3.1" pistol barrel is the equivalent to a 2" revolver barrel in 357 Magnum. Lighter projectiles accelerate faster and are ideally matched for shorter barrels. Try Underwood Nosler 115gr JHP and their 65 & 90gr Xtreme Defenders you should see 1400-1850fps / 450-550ft-lbs. There's no point in carrying 357 SIG unless you are reaching those one-stop energy thresholds.

    One big plus for the 357 sig is it was made (among other things) to give good performance out of a short barrel. With a 5 inch barrel most self defense cartridges will perform great, but out of a 3 inch barrel? Don’t even think about a 45acp or 380 (I wouldn’t even want a 40cal).

    • @keithgraham9547
      @keithgraham9547 7 місяців тому

      Ummm, you don't have any idea what you're talking about.
      357 SIG was developed to give equivalent ballistics to a 357 Magnum 125 grain shot from a snubbies, when the SIG is fired from a full size autoloader, i.e. a P226.
      And it did. But Rep. Barney Frank labeled it a "cop killer round" (who knows why, it was used almost exclusively by LE at the time), and threatened to (illegally) ban it if manufacturers didn't water down the ammo.
      Yes, 357 SIG is sensational.
      All calibers will lose velocity from short barrels, but even a 22lr from a 1.5" barrel retains enough velocity to be deadly.
      A 45acp from a typical 3.5" barrel compact will still provide more than enough ft-lbs to approximate most 9mm higher quality ammo in a 5" barrel.
      From tests I've seen and done, 357 SIG is maybe one of, if not the best in subcompacts, and 9mm the worst. 9mm ammo, unless you buy the outrageous priced hyperammo, tends to be underpowered/underloaded.
      If you have a 9mm compact pistol, or subcompact or micro, get some run of the mill ammo, two or three brands. Shoot a box of each from 30-40 yards.
      My bet is you will see inconsistent performance, a wide variance which isn't just you, and a significantly larger drop than you've been led to believe.
      In my tests, that starts showing up at about 18 yards, and is clear at 33 yards.

    Definitely an interesting game. I don't feel that in such a small barrel you get any of the few benefits of the .357 sig and the drawbacks glare especially with how good the modern 9mm bullets are. Pistols are really only going to incapacitate when hitting vital areas and that is definitely shown in the amount of survivors of pistol solutions vs center fire rifles. The extra flash and sound could be argued to help mentally incapacitate. But every moment you're carrying is a great thing, and keep it up. Good content

    • @TransformersHoarder
      @TransformersHoarder 10 місяців тому

      So get this… the velocity of that 9mm projectile with 357 Sig out of this 3.1” barrel is STILL faster than the same projectile 9mm +P+ out of a 5” barrel. Wrap your head around that.

    • @JNOSNOW
      @JNOSNOW 10 місяців тому

      So the difference between a 124 gr 9mm +P and a 125 gr .357 sig out of a 3" barrel is about 150 fps favoring the 357 sig. Obviously different loads number change the numbers a little up or down with either cartridge. If you really have to have that extra little bit of fps but at the detriment of twice as much flash and a good bit more recoil then that's a trade off you'll have to weigh yourself. Regardless, it's still a little 9mm/.357 size pistol bullet that is just poking holes in the target unlike rifle rounds that actually do damage.

      Is 9mm equal to or superior to 357 Sig? Let’s think about that for ourselves for just a moment, shall we? I get it that some people pick a side and feel the need to defend their choice, but not to the extent of regurgitating pure nonsense that they themselves were misinformed on.
      Some ammo manufacturers actually have loads that even surpasses the ballistics of traditional 357 magnum performance. Underwood's 357 SIG Gold Dot for example. Also because it’s a bottleneck cartridge it has the added benefit of feeding more reliably than other pistol rounds. It’s flat shooting and will punch through auto glass like it was butter.
      It’s literally a 9mm projectile “except” because it’s 225-300 fps faster it penetrates most barriers as well as 10mm yet doesn’t over penetrate flesh, which is welcomed to aid in avoiding collateral damage.
      It has a flatter trajectory that in turn makes it more accurate and potent at distance. Though the penetration is no greater than 9mm in flesh, the cavity damage is much more devastating making it more likely to stop a threat with less shots.
      357 Sig Compact and Subcompact firearms actually have more energy than an equivalent sized barrel length 10mm. Even out of as much as a 4” barrel, Underwood 125gr 357 Sig has the energy that’s equal to or greater than most 10mm loads with the exception of a few specialty loads. Basically 10mm energy only surpasses 357 Sig out of longer full size barrel lengths.
      Underwood has a 357 Sig 65g Xtreme Penetrator round that exceeds 2250+ fps out of just a 6” barrel. I don’t know of any other semiautomatic pistol caliber that has rounds capable of such velocities from a handgun. It goes straight through a 3A panel even. At those velocities normally temporary cavities tear.
      One of the most attractive benefits of owning a 357 Sig is the ability to convert the firearm to 40 S&W & 9mm with nothing more than a simple barrel swap. You also normally can do a 357 Sig or 9mm conversion if you own a 40 S&W firearm as well. That means you can train on whatever platform you’re most comfortable with and whatever ammo is the most affordable, and no it isn’t always 9mm. That means that you are less hindered by ammo shortages… and when you’re done training simply swap out the barrel and ammo back to 357SIG and you’re all set. Sadly on a native 9mm firearm you don’t have any option to do a conversion.
      I never understood what’s not to like about 357 SIG… well other than ammunition availability and cost being the only negatives I guess, but it is the better round.
      Keep in mind that when you compare 9mm +P or +P+ to try to achieve 357 Sig performance, 357 Sig is actually cheaper than 9mm. When I searched +P+ to get as close to 357 Sig performance as possible, it was more expensive than a standard 357 Sig JHP round.
      9mm +P+ is still only 1300 fps in 124 grain. That’s 50 fps slower than the lowest end 125 grain Sig round at 1350 fps and we’re comparing +P+ 9mm ammo here. Yet the bare minimum 357 Sig performance isn’t even achievable and this is usually attempted in a platform that isn’t even recommended for +P+ or even +P at times.
      I say it’s best to swap to a 9mm conversion barrel when training and back to 357 Sig right before you’re all done to finish up with 357 to cut that expense down.
      In most cases the recoil of any superior round can be overcome with training. I actually have little to no recoil on one of my setups. It’s compensated. You’ll find that comps actually provide greater compensation with 357 Sig compared to 9mm because of the higher pressures. I do understand that some people are recoil sensitive and are more comfortable with 9mm or other lower recoiling rounds. I understand some just prefer the thought of higher capacity. I totally understand your decisions. But let’s not bash any superior round because you prematurely decided on a specific one.
      Naturally shot placement, especially with pistol calibers is key… but under pressure understandably, your shot placement could be lacking. With that in mind the welcomed advantages of 357 Sig could easily make the difference between life and death, shot placement aside.
      There’s nothing wrong with 9mm it’s awesome, but let’s be clear… it isn’t equal to 357 Sig and the few extra rounds it’s capable of holding in a magazine over 357 Sig definitely doesn’t make it the superior choice. In time I expect 357 Sig to make the comeback that 10mm has made in recent years… For myself these 357 Sig advantages make 9mm less desirable. How about for you?

    30 carbine and 45ACP rounds where getting stopped by winter North Korea and Chinese uniforms
    Now I live in Florida our Winter wear might be your early Spring wear so I can EDC anything I want I 38SP 380ACP 9MM 40SW 45ACP 10MM will be fine now 10mm is my walk in the woods carry 9mm is my edc but sometimes I being 38 380
    Now 357 is bad for Florida because it’s to fast it goes through walls

    • @magickaldood
      @magickaldood Рік тому +2

      Overpenetration, through the threat, with handgun cartridges is a non-factor. There are zero instances of a round being fired from a handgun through the threat and injuring another person.
      There are examples of handgun rounds going through building materials and vehicles and hitting innocent by-standers but those are not overpenetration per se, they are misses. As long as you are aware of your target and what is behind it, overpenetration is a non-factor.
      I would also add that exsanguination is the primary incapacitating factor in handgun wounds. Bleeding from two holes is faster than one.

      As someone who lives in an apartment, overpenetration is a make or break factor for me in home defense. Even my Ruger PC Carbine can a similar velocity of .357 magnum, which can easily overpenetrate into the next 1-2 rooms. That's why it's my hiking/range gun until I save up for a house.

    • @lechestain2048

      @@dillonc7955 yup, I also live in an apartment so over penetration is a constant thought when it comes to home defense. In my opinion I believe 45 acp is the best for home defense because it's such a slow round you dont need to worry about over penetration (as much), yet it's also a proven man stopper round

    • @magickaldood
      @magickaldood Рік тому +1

      @@dillonc7955 Any round that is not capable of passing through drywall or lumber, won't make a lethal wound on a human.
      The use of the term overpenetration to describe shooting through walls is a misnomer. Missing the target is dangerous no doubt, but that is not overpenetration

    Nah, you ain’t burning all that bottlenecked powder in a 3” barrel. Shoulda stayed with a 40 and fired 135 gr. 40 cal barrel has greater volume and burns more powder, which you need with 3”. Shortest barrel to mess with in 357 is a Glock 33 polygonal. 135s in 40 outshine 125 gr sigs from 3” barrel.
