The one thing that’s being left out is how cost effective every bike on this list is. Rename the video “Very smart choices for cost effective transportation that’s also reliable and works on a budget”
I rebuild wrecked bikes all the time and I can say that the nc750 is an amazing beginner bike that’s fun to ride and easy to maintain. Valves and spark plugs in the front and can be accessed within minutes. For everyone watching this video do not let it discourage you from buying any of these bikes, at the end of the day you never want to live your life worrying about what other people think. All motorcycles are fun to ride so don’t isolate yourself or be afraid to get the not so popular bike. Proud to be a nerd.
Love the videos by the way, don’t get this twisted with anything negative we all have Opinions and this channel has tons of great information.

A lot of these "nerdy" bikes if a person finds a good used one and rides it for a couple of years they can sell for not a lot less than they paid for them if they're looked after. My own bike's a old GSX1100F and all totalled I probably have about $3500.00 wrapped up in it. It's far from new and could be considered a bit dorky because of the 32 year it's been around, but it's very cost effective and when I sell some day my years of riding will have been very economical.

Lol! Oh man, that was great! But as a previous bike mechanic who has ridden almost every bike out there, and an NC 750X DCT owner who absolutely loves this bike, I have a few things to say.
First of all, yes, it is “nerdy” lol! I spent months researching bikes that would fit my needs, and this bike deserves a bit more of an explanation on just how nerdy it really is. The frunk to keep your helmet in so it doesn’t get wet if it rains while you’re in a store, are just the tip of the nerd iceberg.
Here are some more nerdy facts about the NC. It gets 65-70 mpg. It’s low center of gravity makes it handle fantastically safe while making it super difficult to wheelie. You can’t stall it but you can manually shift it even while in drive or sport mode. It has ABS and traction control standard. It’s super low maintenance. The suspension is mostly non adjustable. You won’t impress anyone when you admit that it only has 54 HP for a 750, and no one will believe you when you say that the HP rating misleads you until you actual ride it. It’s a “adventure style bike” that is really just a commuter,/around town bike. And finally, if you have a bunch of friends who don’t know anything about bikes, they think it’s awesome! Lol!
Funny thing, I’m a 48 yr old ex bike mechanic, and I sold my 94 CB 1000 To buy an 18 NC. This bike sat on the dealership floor for almost two years because it didn’t have a standard clutch. I was able to pick it up for $2000 less than MSRP. Under $7000 for a bike as nerdy as this was a steal!

I wouldnt listen to yammy noob. He hasnt nearly 50 years around bikes and doesnt think about build quality, servicing, costs and day to day transport. I bought older vfr750 and first of the fuel injection 800. It was a great engine, had torque, over 100 bhp, enough in the real world and i did London to Scotland 4 times and on a 400 miles each way journey, it was too easy to do over 100mph on the motorway so a torquey cruiser or big tiger 800 makes more sense or even a 6t0 v strom. Fuel economy and reliability and cheap running costs are important in the real world and will take a beating and go round the clock and some. A good round the world bike with a bash plate, radiator guard, handlebar mitts and crash bars. Very hard to beat but if you want custom, a harley, indian, or triumph take some beating and i do like the thunderbird 1700 the most but its not made anymore but in the real world for speed a hayabusa or gsxr1000 are superb or for a shaft drive tourer, a triumph explorer is some bike with a fabulous motor or a well proven yamaha supertenere 1200 thats build quality is far superior to BMW. Of course horses for courses and its very subjective but bikes like AJP that are portuguese are very highly rated bikes for duel purpose riding like a sort of suzuki DR650 but with more go. The newer Guzzis like the 850TT seem to be now reliable and much better with electrics than before. A nice bike but you cant beat maybe the new 800 suzuki v strom or some of the MT07 engined machines that are well tested but get a aftermarket good rear shock! I however absolutely love the Norton bikes, their V4 1200cc bike is stunningly built but a 961 commando will be a dream one day as im sure it will be right up there for handling, motor and big smiles. I already loved the commando since i rode the old 750 fastback which was the best handling twin of its day before the Ducati 750ss and 750cc MV Agusta which were huge money even then.

Im an old 63 year old biker whos been in courier work and although hondas were considered boring, the cb350 was cheap to run and so reliable, cheap and the company had a fleet of them but i liked the Suzuki GS850 but it was juicy in traffic but on the motorway it was low maintenance, very comfortable and was guaranteed to go round the clock and the electrics were great and it was considered a boring bike but in the real world pulled better low down than the GS750, or most other jap inline 4s, easy to work on and get to stuff unlikde honda vfrs which were harder to work on and get at stuff. The kawasaki GT550, the deauville hondas were popular with shaft drive but gearboxes were a weakness on the kawasaki gt550. Yamaha XJ650s and 900s were really good engines that went round the clock. Even TDM 850 and 900 were really good in the real world like transalps and yamaha fazers. Obviously now with the NC750 theyre more modern, economical and good for reliable and cheap longetivity. Its not for nothing these ujm s are so popular in the world and the humble C90, CD175, sold many millions worldwide and would carry a family of 4 plus luggage in countries like vietnam in the years after the war.

Same here, first season riding with a hardly used NC700 DCT. A guy at work can't ride anymore, and I should prob feel guilty that he didn't charge me $2,000 more. Paid 1/3 of retail for a bike with 1,600 babied miles on it. Had plenty of cash to get gear, and a nice Cardo BT unit for tunes. Jump on it and go, no need for backpacks or bags for day trips. I love it, even if it is a bit odd looking. I'm too old for crotch rockets, and not a Harley guy. It's perfect for me

Don't worry, next time I'll take my Honda Lead 110cc scooter so you won't be last on the group ride.

Kill me I don't get what is so fantastic about the vfr. My friend loves the bike he owns 2012 vrf800. After riding his bike I couldn't find the appeal. I was comparing back to back with 2014 cbr650f and the cbr650f just does everything that vfr800 is going but a level above better. And cbr650f is a kinda mediocre bike, to begin with.

The VFR from 2012 is a very different bike from the one Spite owned, (VFR 800F)
The latest VFR was a statement motorcycle from Honda, its not fastest (considerably faster than your CBR tho)
But it will outlast anything, and its built quality is godlike.
Not everyone can appriciate that, and just want more "oomph"

The NC, VFR, GS and Versys are all great bikes because they're viable as the only vehice you own. They're comfortable and versatile enough for going to work or to travel during the summer.
Same goes for the beginner bikes you mentionned- Your "great beginner bike" is, in my opinion, worse than the alternatives with multiple cylinders and fairings. I wouldn't want to ride a 401 svartpilen for hours on the highway to visit my parents. I wouldn't want to ride it in the cold, with no protection from the icy wind. But I'd love to ride it on my spare time or to commute to work on a sunny day, the offroad capabilities are also great you're right.
Some people can't afford a car AND a bike, we choose a "dorky" bike to be able to ride, but we have to ride in all conditions, even when we don't want to. Is it fun to ride in the rain while it's freezing outside ? No. Is the bike worth it ? Hell yeah

The Yamaha TW makes sense and I will tell you why.
In Japan - where the majority are not long of leg - the TW was not only popular, but had a HUGE modding and custom community. I am talking for more that 20-30 years they have been stripping them down, lengthening the swingarm, and generally having fun with their rides.
This was the case 20 years ago when i lived in Japan, and is still the case now, albeit they are not as common, but still widespread. 200cc TW is kind of like a perfect bike for zipping around the city, it is low compact, probably not too heavy or difficult to manage, and a basic motorcycle license is enough for it.
My ex was also going to get one as it was one of the few bikes that a short woman could comfortably straddle and control and it had offroad capability.
Uncool? In its stock form, yes it might be a little dorky, but i have seen dozens of very cool ones in Japan, and for the right conditions and rider, they could be an excellent choice.

Hahaha, love my Honda ctx700 dct abs (so the fact that you saved #1 spot for nc750, I assumed you meant me too.) I must say though, honda wouldn't know how to act in any other position than #1.
Nerdy, maybe. But my bike starts every time, is easy to ride, and 2 weeks ago when I took the long T-day weekend to cruise the nc obx 350 miles from home, I fell during a nerdy dismount when my leathers got tangled up in my tail bag. Whelp, I sprained my left hand/wrist in the fall. Thank goodness for honda's DCT, because my hand swelled up like a puffer fish. I made it home only because on the honda 700ctx dct, the left hand is basically just along for the ride (as long as turn signals are optional)....
Anyway, love your shows, no one else can pack a sentence with edutainment like you do.

@@stevebolton8471 I think I was referring to downshifting. Which is why my V8 has a manual transmission as well. Its more safe to have two ways of stopping the bike. DCT with that much power behind it is unsettling without the ability to downshift. But I sometimes ride with red blood in my veins so maybe that's why I care.
