    The Asaro head explained in 8 minutes: This model, created by John Asaro, is a very useful tool to learn the basics of shading a head. It shows you the planes of the head in a simplified manner. This way you can grasp the fundamentals of light and shadow much easier.
    In this tutorial I show you a FREE Asaro head 3D model that will help you understand the planes of the face - and where to put the shadows. And then I teach you how to use the Asaro head: I show you two practice exercises that you can use to learn shading faster!
    I show you how to create an Asaro head study/drawing with the help of this cool simulator.
    With this you can take your head drawings to the next level!

    for anyone watching this, the artstation model comes with a secondary light source that you have to move to remove it with shift + left click. I didn't know why it seemed so hard for me to read the grayscale values, it was because the secondary lightsource was muddying the light.

    • @jybutbynyn
      @jybutbynyn Рік тому

      is the secondary light souce the same as bounce light?

    • @toastyshrimp1882
      @toastyshrimp1882 Рік тому +3

      @@jybutbynyn No. Bounced light refers to a single light source whose waves bounce off of the ground and slightly illuminate the sides of an object facing away from the light source. Secondary light is exactly that, a secondary light source. In the ArtStation model, there are two light sources illuminating the model.

    • @jybutbynyn

      @@toastyshrimp1882 ooh, thanks. this got me confused bc i can't see the bounce light in the model, does it have it?

    • @toastyshrimp1882
      @toastyshrimp1882 Рік тому +1

      @@jybutbynyn There is no bounce lighting because there's no other surfaces. The model is simply to show how a single light source (or two if you use both) luminates the planes of the head.

    Der originale Asaro Head bietet noch mehr Informationen für den Bereich Jochbein/Schläfenbein - habe ihn bei Scetchfab zum kostenlosen Herunterladen gefunden. Sehr gute kleine Übungen, die du beschreibst! Ich finde auch die Reilly Abstraction sehr hilfreich für das 3D Verständnis, (viel weiterführend als Loomis, der für den absoluten Anfang sehr hilfreich ist) da hier auf anatomische Verhältnisse eingegangen wird: Knochen, Muskel, Bänder, Fett. Es ist sicher hilfreich, auch den Asaro Head daraufhin zu untersuchen.

      By the way, have you checked out the female version of the head on his ArtStation profile, too? It looks almost the same, but it's pretty cool - it connects the light source and the head with a dotted line. That makes it even easier to understand the direction of the light. 🙂

      Yes, sketchfab is great for free models. They do lack the lighting component though most of the time. I think a head with a hat on is too specific - I couldn't find anything.
