The sea off Blackpool and the Fylde Coast is known for being a murky colour. To be fair, that’s mostly due to the amount of sand it carries, churned up by the constant prevailing winds blowing across the Irish Sea.
he North Sea appears brown currently due to sediment-laden rivers and estuaries that influence the east coast. The sediment particles in the water take a long time to settle to the bottom, so they remain suspended, giving the water a murky appearance.
UK sea water is not clear because it is influenced by sediment-laden rivers and estuaries. The North Sea, which borders the east coast of the UK, tends to have higher levels of suspended sediments compared to the Atlantic Ocean on the west coast.
