I'm new to pro tools and was wondering if there is an easier way to separate tracks and keep them in time with the drums. I cut a part off of a bass track and then I tried to loop it. The problem is I have to separate it and try and keep time with the drums. Its a pain, is there an easier way? I would appreciate any help. Thank You
If you have automation on a track or buss, and you insert time, when everything moves over, will the automation move as well so it stays the same as how you had it, or is there certain things to keep in mind or some special way you have to do it if you have automation?
Great vid! I have one question: I messed up, because of a new version of protools, I wasn't used to - and I accidentally agreed to "meter ruler only". I just noticed now, a few changes later, so I can't just click 'undo'. Do you by any chance know, where I can 'edit'/undo inserted time, so that I can make it all fit again?
Great post, exactly what I was looking for! Question: I am using a drum program BFD 2 for my drum tracks, but when I added time, the drum sequence I made didn't move. Do I have to add this time in my BFD program? How do I get it to move with the time inserted into my protools track?
I actually have lots of problems inserting time. It’s probably because I have tempo and meter changes within the session. I succeeded only by inserting time at the start of the session, but within the session it’s a mission impossible. Something to get a Ph.D for the research and solving it, I guess. Weird things happen when you try to insert for example a 4/4 bar between 9/8 bars. Good luck :-)
While 24 seems a bit long, I can tell you from many years of studio experience that I many artist request a "longer" intro at times. This is typically meant for DJs wanting intros to mix into. Less work for them to loop before dropping the track LIVE. Other times it can be for radio requests that want a longer intro to effectively drop the track with promo intros. Thanks for posting this video.
Lifesaver! I've been racking my head on this one. Thanks!!!
Wow ! Thought I was stuck......your information; very timely. Many thanks, Joe.
I’m actually using this tomorrow. You’re a good man Joe Gilder! Glad this was up.
Thank you for this! I'm continuing to learn about what my DAW can do. Thanks for the clear explanations!
You're a scholar and a gentleman. Thank you.
Thanks, saludos desde Chile

If I may, what beautiful reverb are you using that tails just right when you stopped the song?
awesome video, loved you on the office
Thanks you saved my day
That helped. Thank you.
But how do you add time only to one track?

Hmm...good question. I'm not entirely sure.

thanks buddy, nice one!
Does this move/preserve all the playlists as well?
Good question. I don't know. Try it and let us know!
I just did- bummer, it doesn't keep those intact, at least not in Pro Tools 9!
Womp Womp
Do you know how to do it with preserving the playlist? You're the expert!
Use option while clicking to select playlist view on one track. That will reveal all tracks. Then insert time.
Ahh, so clear - thank you!
Dude thank you so much
Thank you!

thank you
thanks.
Don't add 24 measure intros
Why not?
Joe Gilder Music obviously because this guy loves pop music. Any actual composers of music don’t listen to this guy.

haha!
Melodyne doesn’t follow the move.
DUDE!!! Can I treat you to a meal???? Thank you!!!
Thank you!
