- I bought this set because I'm pulling the heads off of the Benz to do a full timing chain kit and the heads need to be removed to remove the old timing chain guide rails. Of course I get to the very last head bold and completely round off the teeth of the Torx style head on the bolts. The idea was to drill the head of the head bolt off and remove the head and then screw out the rest of the bolt. While I was shopping for some other odds and ends I came across this set at Harbor Freight. It was on sale and looked like the perfect thing to get the bolt out after I drilled hole big enough for the tool to fit into. This is the first impressions vid before I used it. I have another vid coming up that shows me using it and how well it worked. This set is made very well and is a direct competitor to the snappy set that I saw a long time ago that I couldn't afford. The tools in the box are hardened steel and coated so they won't rust. The bitst are sharp and grab a hold very well. After I used the size that I needed I checked to see if I damaged it by using it and the tool looks like new still so I'm sure these will last a very long time. Sometimes you get into a bind or a roadblock with a project and get stuck. This tool set is the answer for repairing a mistake and getting back to work. this kit is JUNK!!!! Tip broke off on me the first time i used it!!!!!!!!!
I used it once and took it back and got a refund. The extractor I used the tip broke off. Don’t get me wrong I love harbor freight but not this particular set
That sucks. For me, it worked perfectly. Maybe there is inconsistency in the production. I will definitely repost down the road if any obvious problems show up.
I also purchased that Icon extractor set and took it back because the bit wouldn't take out the stainless steel plugs that were seized on my pontoon boat. Not enough flighting on the extractors and the just stripped inside the plugs. Wound up drilling and tapping them and screwed in some bolts using JB weld as a sealer/thread locker.
Glad you found something that worked and got er done. I'll use whatever works. This just happened to be the ticket for this job.
