Man the whole audio design for this trailer. From the gear shifts to the engine sounds is just breathtaking. Makes me miss the days when game devs and companies put so much effort into the audio and sound effects of the games.
I remember playing this as a kid on my PSvita and with the cheap sony earbuds that were made for it, and I always watched through this intro because the bass was so good and impressive... Even though it was just a pair of cheap earbuds.
I suppose the best with have is the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 N with fake gearbox and engine noise. One of the sounds available, I think its called supersonic kind of sounds like the semi-antigravity car. Bit of a stretch, I know.
This intro is so incredibly rad... The amount of detailed design and engineering makes it look like it really works, presented in an awesome, action-packed sequence of racing of every generation of motorsports!
It feels like it low key compliments the impact that Pierre Belmondo had in the creation of the AGRC. For the sake of context I'll mention that WipEout had lore and backstory but the only way anyone knew about it was from reading the manuals and occasionally questioning the developers on such matters, and in this WipEout universe Pierre Belmondo was a man whose obsession with gravity lead to him inventing the anti gravity technology used by the crafts that you race in the game. For a guy that the general player would know nothing about his life story is brilliant, and his final act of brilliance was managing to live to the age of 130.
Kind of a thing with Psygnosis/Studio Liverpool. From G-Police to Overboard to basically every WipEout ever. I personally still think the WipEout Pure intro cutscene is the best especially when the craft takes off at the very end and the music has a drawn out fade with the logo coming into focus... I wish more game devs had style like Psygnosis/Studio Liverpool did though. Here's WipEout Pure's intro cutscene: ua-cam.com/video/8n9QqB1uiU8/v-deo.html Imagine seeing that on a portable gaming console back in 2004! That was me man enjoying the sights. The sound design in that game was stellar too it didn't end with the intro they had doppler sound in game which was epic especially when someone lets a turbo rip and you hear them rushing up from behind you could even tell what side they're on!
@@MythicSuns Another reason I liked WipRout Pure because you unlocked a lot of the lore by completing races. Lot of world building in the PSP WipEout games (Pulse featured that too).
Yeah, you totally are the only one. It's completely bizarre to want awesome anti gravity cyberpunk racing vehicles leaving badass blue trails. Have yourself checked out.
1:19 was an old concept for another potential racing project for SCE Liverpool, megnetic wheel that can climb on any surfaces...I actually really want this concept to be made as a prequel for WpEout.
No wonder Liverpool put all their projects in this intro cause they knew their studio was bye bye soon at the time. So they just put everything in a mini compilation.
Interesting. I always imagined in an extended version of this intro that in that sequence two timelines got produced when the transition happens. In one, it proceeded towards becoming AG tech which lead to the end of the intro (I.E. WipEout). In the second, the street racing progressed more and more with the vehicles becoming bigger, beefier, faster and weaponized till they eventually became what Rollcage is.
The year is 2012, 12 years old me just got a PS Vita for Christmas with one game, Wipeout 2048. The moment I start the game I am blessed with this intro and instantly fall in love. Fast forward 8 years, I still dream about badass, gravity speed racers in my lifetime.
Ben Knight Funny you should mention that, I have plans to write a novel based off the cars from the 2025 sequence, not as much about racing teams but more based off a nobody trying to prove themselves in a racing league
We already have the black car (mazda furai) and we are entering the futuristic car phase (look at the new 911 or the i8) so its a definate possobility we will reach that in 25
I’ve never played a wipeout game when I was a kid and this happened to be the first one I played when it came out. I would constantly restart the game to see this intro over and over again
Races like this could be the future. Imagine how fast you could be if you had little frictional resistance. Take a magnetic levitation track and an electromagnet for the vehicle. Tada with a bit of programming the functions of the changing magnetic fields, you can definitely reach extreme speeds in this thing...
(Lore-wise, that is nothing compared to some of the older wipeout titles'. said to be taken place after a Hundred Years and more. Years 2200s or something. I didn't even know that wipeout '2048' was a prequel to all of the Past wipeout games (story-wise in this verse's) from back then. it does make sense that everything in wipeout 2048's Timeline looks like it is still just reaching to a point where they turn their highest skyscrapers into anti-grav tracks for their wipeout racers. heh).

Back then I was still a trophy hunter and wanted to finish the online campaign ASAP. It was a terrible grind as no one was really playing it so I would be waiting for hours to finish a couple games haha. I made a group called Wipeout 2048 Trophy Boosting and started messaging and recruiting everyone I saw waiting in the lobbies! We eventually gained 130+ members and were able to help everyone clear the campaign much easier this way. I really miss these days haha!

The fkin nostalgia
One of the best game intros ever! It’s a shame they don’t do just a few more in the Wipeout series.
Peak intro design. Studio Liverpool and DJ Fresh/Sian Evans knocking it out of the park.
5 more years for the HYBRID Vehicle!!!!
it's 2017 and I still miss the game and the song
0:26 that bass ^^
this intro was probably one of the best ever made. almsot brings a tear to my eye
We're now closer to 2048 than to 1995, the release of the first Wipeout game.
Wipeout HD is amazing...one of the best on PSN and the Soundtrack is just awesome...can't wait for 2048...been looking forward since it was announced.
More than a feeling, we're building a dream of going fast.
