I have to hand it to early sentai, they may be cheesy in parts but the stories could get real dark. Imagine trying to sell Goldar wanting to destroy Rita with a belt full of explosives! Chances are Bulk and Skull would have screwed it up.
Holy CRAP! This is really ambitious! I didn't even look at the duration when I started watching and only slowly realized you were reviewing the ENTIRE series! I'm pretty blown away. As for the show, I always knew the 1st half of the '80's sentai really well but got very confused after "Flashman", especially with "Liveman" since the suit designs are so similar to "Jetman" of 2 years later. I personally think the decade peaked with "Dynaman", which has the most berserk, cocaine-like, speed, editing, fights and actual dynamite(!) but the later '80's has some great mecha designs and it's really interesting to see all the early computer animation they were using in sentai and the metal hero shows by then! Thanks for defining "Liveman" for my brain!
Very nicely done. :) Though it's said that Takuji Yano (the male student who got shot at the beginning of Liveman) had two younger brothers, they just were not seen together in the show. Also the explosions by the apartment buildings shot, that shot was very often used by Toei in many other Tokusatsu shows, sometimes being used multiple times in the shame show (but on different episodes).
It is amazing, this show came out before you where born and you analyzed it like you where there in 1988! I didn't see it till 1995 and didn't get all minus one episode in 2000! I will agree that this show I the best of 80s Sentai next to Maskman. And those two series where Dark next to Dynaman Bioman, and Changeman. If you must know, Liveman was attempting to replicate Sunvulcan from 1983. Until black and green joins to make 5. This tradition would later repeat itself in Hurricanegers , Abareranger, Gekiranger and Gobusters. Both Tetsuya and Junichi would have mirror reflections of themselves 20 years later in Go-Ongers. This Sentai is the first to have a integrated cinema ending at the very final episode with the credits rolling and the episode is still playing until END is highlighted like most Japanese cinemas. Overall Liveman is COOL Sentai with Maskman, Turborangers, Dairangers and Kakurangers. Another personal reason why Liveman is in my heart is Megumi Misaaki. She ain't Pink but still sexy as Blue and she is still my favorite Sentai Girl. I did encounter a girl that looked like Megumi in highschool and I was in love! Keep up the good work with Tokusatsu and never stop!
+Kam Zeng I started watching Liveman this year and finished it a couple months ago. It was the first pre-Zyuranger Sentai I watched, and I loved it. Currently it's my favorite Sentai apart from Magiranger, Boukenger and Gokaiger. I finished Maskman yesterday, and while I definitely prefer Liveman I still loved it too. Tell me, why do you think Maskman is the best Sentai of the 80s? I'm just curious.
+Dinobolt1 MASKMAN is thee best Series of the 1980s and it's underrated! If there was no Maskman there would also be no Dairangers and Gekirangers. P.S. Where did can you access all 51 episode of Maskman? I want to see all of them as my bucket list.
+Kam Zeng I just sent you a message with the link. Could you go a little more in-depth as to why you liked Maskman so much. I love it too, I'd just like to hear real reasons why you love it so much (the story, the characters, etc.).
To reflect on Maskman's insignia. Here are 5 reasons why the series is a heavy hitter. 5. The script and plot is straight to the point and hardcore. Sadly most of today's Sentai cannot match up the writing that old school Sentai has to offer. 4. The characters, this is going to be a long one. Every character fits the series. We have Igam who is really a Princess and is blinded by loyalty to a monster of Zeba. Then you have the loyal soldiers of dumb general Baraba, fast ninja Oyuboo and stealth ninja Fumiin. On the good side of Aura Light there is Takeru the tough as nails leader and practitioner of Okinawan Tai karate. Though a hurt soul from a tragic lost of his love Iaru. Second in command Kenta who first but heads with Takeru of his inability to command and is a expert of Shaolin Sanda fist and bojutsu cudgel fighting. We have the light and nimble Akira who is a master of Wushu boxing. Then there is Haruka, a dancer by day and Ninja by night. And Momoko, tai chi chuan master. She made a stand in a episode when the bone monster attempting to corrupt her students which was a ploy to disrupt the formation of Great Five. 3. The music soundtrack and opening. The suits and mask are awesome. Today's series does not do that ever. 2. It was the first to allow a second cannon used, Chinese martial arts used as a theme. Denzi Blue used snake fist but that was 7 years ago. And the first to add a 6th member who is both green and a prototype. X-1 Mask is still talked about amongst the fan community and Bandai has never made anything to pay tribute to the one hit wonder. 1. It is a dark and cool drama which could be in debate if the show is truly for children. There is my reasons why Maskman is a classic that is overlooked. When I got into Sentai in 1994 when MMPR was hot. I got to know of Maskman and obtain 20 odd out of order episodes and 21 years still I have not seen the whole series!
+Kam Zeng Thanks a lot for your response. Yes, Maskman is overall an excellent Sentai. The biggest complaint I have with the series is that it has one of the most poorly guarded twists in history (Igam's true identity, 'nuff said). 5. The first 4 episodes were good. They weren't great, but they weren't horrible either. I didn't like episodes 5-7, but episode 8 really grabbed me and aside from a few more bad episodes never let go. 4. Each side had some great characters. I liked all of the Maskmen except for Haruka, but even she had her moments (episode 12 is a favorite of mine). Takeru, Kenta and Momoko were all interesting characters, but my favorite Maskman was Akira. I didn't think I would like him at first (I didn't like episode 5 because he acted like an idiot), but every episode that focused on him after that was a winner. I liked Princess Ial and Commander Sugata too. The villains weren't as memorable as the ones in Liveman, but they all had their moments (except for Okelampa; I hate that thing). My least favorites Fumin and Oyobu were active in fighting the Maskmen, and had moments where we saw that there was a little more too them. Oyobu in how loyal he was to Lord Zeba (so loyal that he gladly died for him), and Fumin in how loyal she was to Igam plus how she once showed that she had pity for Princess Ial (one of my favorite moments in the series is when she started to free Ial from her icy coffin but Igam stopped her). Igam and Baraba were pretty interesting especially Igam. Anagmus I thought was just going to be a comedy relief villain who does nothing at first, but when he steps up to fight in episode 19 he proves his worth. He even came up with a couple clever schemes (like the ploy you mentioned to get Momoko too tired to help pilot the Great Five). But my favorites were Kiros and Lord Zeba. Kiros was just a really cool villain, and Lord Zeba made for a memorable Big Bad. The subplot about his secret was very fascinating and the pieces of the puzzle came together perfectly in the end. 3. The opening is good. It's not one of my all-time favorite Sentai openings but it's in my top 25 and I intend to do a music video for it someday. Would you like me to send you a link when I post it? The ending however is one of my top 10 endings. I always look forward to hearing it when I finish an episode. And the costumes and music were very cool. The only other Sentai I'm really interested in getting the soundtrack to is Flashman. 2. All that was cool. I really wish X-1 Mask had been a recurring character. 1. Yeah. Like Liveman, I couldn't believe how dark it was at some points. I'm sorry you haven't seen every episode yet, but now you can with the link I sent you. Did you get my message? I hope you enjoy watching them and all your other favorite Sentai if they're available to watch. Say, besides Liveman what are your other favorite Sentai? Thanks again. It's always nice talking with a fellow Sentai fan.
Couldn't agree more with this review. It's definitely one of the best and one of my favorite though personally i enjoyed Maskman a bit more than Liveman and is perhaps my favorite 80's Sentai.
As much as I wanna finish your review, I don't wanna spoil this. I'm 17 episodes in and I'm loving it so far.I'm really excited for green and black to join. Mind you, my first and only super Sentai I watched all the way through was Dairanger back in 2011. Then I bought the Entire series off amazon and watched it legally! Lmao. Anyway, The first thing I noticed right away of course was Jin and Gara playing as antigonist again. I'd have to say so far, my favorite is Jou. But Megumi is such a babe, wowza. 😍
This is not just a kid's show. This was a satire of Japanese education system as it was shown in the show several times like Character of Gou(Dr.Obler).
Tsukigata, Senda, and Omura did not sell their souls to the devil. They sold them to Kirei Kotomine, which is just as bad (except Kirei has mapo tofu). Not convinced? Listen to Great Professor Bias' voice.
you should look up Meinos Kaen and his Review of Gaim's episodes, most of them were taken down BUT he still has some on Dailymotion under the same name
I have already watched Liveman and one question remains for me: Did Go aka Dr Obler regain his humanity or did he still have the ability to turn into Dr Obler but he didn't want too?
Academia Island well the XYZ Dimension is f--ked (Yugioh Arc-V is what I am referencing basically Decade done right granted there are elements from Gaim as well)
Toku Time 43:35 I can understand how Tetusya and Junichi's appearance may have felt a bit rushed and thrown in at the last minute without having been previously mentioned or shown in any episode before. It should be noted, as it may come to no surprise, that the addition of those two was a result of the show having low ratings and the producers wanting to bring more in more viewers to watch by allowing the show to have the usual five team roster as opposed to three. Though I don't think it's entirely unlikely that the two of them did not know the three main heroes were close friends with Takuji and Mari. Keep in mind that Tetsuya and Junichi were not students at the Academy. It could've entirely been possible that they knew about their older siblings living and attending the Academy as students, but probably might not have been aware about who their closest friends were. So they both spent all of their time trying to develop the Bison Liner and Sai Fire vehicles without bothering to try and find out who the identities of the Livemen were.
You knows why these Sentai are better than the Power Ranger series because this series is for youngsters and teenagers and not for children. Much of the content is not for children, it is also spoken of religion in the sense of criticism. There is also talk of war and compared to the Power Ranger that is not mentions, it is also spoken of death and revenge. The series is more focus to another public, and In Japan there are regulations but it is not as strict as in the United States on television station
Toku Time you are one of the reasons i started to watch sentai again.that and kamen rider i just finish gokaiger jetman and kamen rider fourzes.thank you man and keep up the good work.
The point of "It was the first series to bring in extra senshi" is wrong, Maskman bought in X-1 Mask, even though it was only for an episode he was still bought in.

Dorothée akase shown tv programs in France (Récré A2 and Club Dorothée) for the kids from 1978 to 1997 ! I was very young when I saw this miss on TV ! And Liveman is my favorite super sentai, after, there is Gokaiger and Chou-denshi Bioman is the third !
How does the U.S. not have ideas? This only belongs to Bandai/Saban, and even then they have made relatively original works from Sentai series, most notably Power Rangers SPD and Lost Galaxy. Wasn't until relatively recently that they just started stealing the plot too.
Eric Mesias "no ideas". Yeah because seasons like Power Rangers In Space, Lost Galaxy, and RPM were total rehashes of their Sentai counterparts. Purist prick
I have to hand it to early sentai, they may be cheesy in parts but the stories could get real dark. Imagine trying to sell Goldar wanting to destroy Rita with a belt full of explosives! Chances are Bulk and Skull would have screwed it up.
the blond teatcher is actullay a french tv presentator who brought in France japan show and anime her name is dorothee and bring us happyness
Bioman, Maskman, Liveman and many oldschool sentais were pretty big in France.
Jetman being the last import from Japan ...
Noel:Oh la la

This series is awsome i wish shout factory would relese it on dvd
Here's hoping we get to see Red Falcon, Blue Dolphin, Yellow Lion, Black Bison & Green Sai all get an SH Figuarts treatment one day. :D
Definitely! and have all five them hold the BioMotion Buster. Epic Win.
Couldn't agree more with this review. It's definitely one of the best and one of my favorite though personally i enjoyed Maskman a bit more than Liveman and is perhaps my favorite 80's Sentai.

The reason why Black Bison and Green Sai was introduced because toy sales was starting to decreased so they decide to ad the two character
Choujuu Sentai Liveman it like The Dark Knight for supersentai
Agreed....
This is not just a kid's show. This was a satire of Japanese education system as it was shown in the show several times like Character of Gou(Dr.Obler).
Shout Factory please release Choujuu Sentai Liveman complete series on DVD.
I grew up with this! my favorite Sentai of all time. :D
This one and Maskman from 1986 :)
this is one of my favorite super sentais
Tsukigata, Senda, and Omura did not sell their souls to the devil. They sold them to Kirei Kotomine, which is just as bad (except Kirei has mapo tofu). Not convinced? Listen to Great Professor Bias' voice.
I still say Kemp looks freaking Dignified compared to Ley Wanda from Flashman.
you should look up Meinos Kaen and his Review of Gaim's episodes, most of them were taken down BUT he still has some on Dailymotion under the same name
Go: I renounce my humanity Jo...Jo.

Regardless of this is how you feel about ARC-V now or not I appreciate your sentiment 8 years ago
Megumi is the best female warrior. I love you Blue Dolphin
Liveman IMO is better than Hurricanger.
Funny how both shows are similar, except that Hurricanger also added some elements from Kakuranger.
Hilarous, and you should hear them dubbed to spanish when they swear "MALDITOS" XD
+Erick Hernandez i remember watching a spanish or portuguese dubbed clip.

Had this review been made this year, Arashi's death would've been a perfect WITNESS ME moment!

What does sentai have to do with powerrangers
To be fair regarding the brothers, they deceased friends may have had many a sibling
I agree with your review, Liveman is great and your program is also great. Thumbs up!
Me too👍👍
I always make sure to watch this show yearly (usually during December)
Hooray!!! Rider is back :D
is suave rider ever going to be in your show
had saban been successful with bringing bioman over i do wonder how Liveman would have been done for power rangers
6:15 The Nostalgia Critic called, he wants his joke back
Can u please do a jetman and turboranger review ?
I did review Jetman. You can find that at RVTentertainment.com
Toku Time Hey did you like kamen rider Gaim
Toku Time you are one of the reasons i started to watch sentai again.that and kamen rider i just finish gokaiger jetman and kamen rider fourzes.thank you man and keep up the good work.
Toku Time WHERES SUAVE RIDER
Toku Time Did you also review Dairanger too?
I saw this show when i was young.i was born in 81.greetings from portugal
Hands down my favorite Sentai, alongside Timeranger.
This Sentai looks like it has a bunch of Christian undertones.
The point of "It was the first series to bring in extra senshi" is wrong, Maskman bought in X-1 Mask, even though it was only for an episode he was still bought in.
Nick Pask even more wrong, Banba from JAKQ became Big One
When your waifu dies and he is the leader of the team
I loved Live Man. Nice Video. Do you have any on Flashman?
Hey, can you review Zyuranger and Ohranger next? :) Very much appreciated, EZ.
He already reviewed Zyuranger. As for Ohranger, sadly, the lack of subs makes it a very hard task to make :( (there are only 5 subbed episodes online)
Ryo Neko
Couldn't find it on UA-cam.
Angie2343 You can find it on my blip page or RVT.
Toku Time
Tried the RVT page. There's no search bar. :(
Funny how I just watched this by coincidence, on the 30th anniversary of Liveman.
i loved this show
I think the deal with black rhino and green bison was it was a marketing gimmick. They were added in to make more money off toys for the series on the side. Though pulling a big lip alligator monement was probably poor writing decisions on there part. FYI this was actually the first sentia series that Saban tried to get the rights to adapt but things didn’t work out. Then Saban tried again three season later at the very beginning of the third generation of sentia 1990 to 1999 so that would have been sentia turbo ranger through maybe hurricaner . More specifically after turbo ranger and 5 man runs were over saban tried to get the rights to do an English dubbed of sentia jetmen but that deal fell through also. Then saban finale got the approval to start the adopatations up until after the Americanized adaption of go go 5 was done. that go go 5 not google v that’s a totally different kettle of fish.
ah liveman. or as ez later calls it "red falcon and his bitches".
The same as Maskman, but in Liveman, they focused too much attention on Yusuke and Megumi.
You missed the original FALCON PUNCH Moment!
14:25 wow what a badass . head butted that monster like ir was nothing lmao
Aside from Akaranger, Red Falcon is the lord and savior of Super Sentai
Edit:Please do Boukenger one day
20:50 Is that Cyclopsis from MMPR?
I think the robot girls name is a mistranslation, I prefer to call her Koron
Either way, it still sounds like colon. A lot of translations of the show spell her name as Colon.
Are you gonna do a review on Kamen Rider Shin?
He already did. I watched it on his old TGWTG account.
great video dude, you got a sub here
did you do kousoku sentai turboranger yet because this my favorite sentai at all times
3:18 Actually, I was thinking more of Duel Academy from Yu-Gi-Oh GX.
give Sun Vulcan a review?
21:09
GET OVER HERE!!!
LiveMan is a favorite of mine
Technically this was the first sentai to bring in extra rangers, as jakq wasn't the second super sentai at the time.
What about Battle Fever? (Second Battle Cossack and Miss America)
+Brad's VENTURIANTALE Fandom
Repalacing a preexisting member doesn't count
+Cosmic Mind it technically counts, as they were still not added at the beginning of the series. Does Black Knight or Ninjaman count to you? Also, I don't use that account anymore, so I use this account and +Nigga Please
Dorothée akase shown tv programs in France (Récré A2 and Club Dorothée) for the kids from 1978 to 1997 ! I was very young when I saw this miss on TV ! And Liveman is my favorite super sentai, after, there is Gokaiger and Chou-denshi Bioman is the third !
is it weird that I'm attracted to colon? What do you call that, robophillia?
shishiwakamaru4 ehhhh its not that weird
She's as Japanese as you can get. She's a robot who speaks Japanese. That's pretty Japanese. So no, you're not a robopedo
where did you get the what do ya want from us were evil clip?
Liveman is one of the best sentai I have seen in a long time and yuske is one of the best senshi my personal fav is tommy if that counts
You made a couple of edits to this video from the original version.
How old are the reveiws till it is posted here
That new Kemp looks like Sting with that facepaint

you are a bad imitation of the Nostalgic Critic guy.
screw you
This is the original not imitation that The U.S. Did with power rangers that shows that the U.S. Has no ideas
@@KeyDopantofFuto don't forget the masterpiece PR in Space!
