There is nothing about "family taking care of family" in stealing from one child so that the "golden child" can have something he didn't deserve. The OP was right not just for taking back the house, but also that they had to admit that they tried to steal from her. Jessica leaving Eric was just the real icing on the cake. The statement the OP stated says it all: *_"I wasn't going to set myself on fire to keep them warm!"_* That is PRECISELY what needed to happen, and needs to happen more often to family members who do what they tried to do to the OP. Eric not only didn't deserve the house.. he didn't deserve Jessica either.

"You'd send your own mother to jail"? ABSO-frick'n-LUTELY!.. why not?.. she committed a crime against you, it doesn't become less of a crime just cause she's your mother... it actually makes it much much worse.. they would be dead and cremated to me after all this.. there's just no way to fix this...

I love stories like these. The family got their's well and truly and deserved all of it. You thought that even though all the years your mother behaviour towards you that if you did this, then she would be grateful. But nothing truly had changed, and it was sad really that she had that chance and just blew it. All of them stealing from you when you just wanted to make something special and hoped that it would change things maybe. But the hard truth is that they are just takers and something had to give, and that was you. They thoroughly got everything that was coming to them, but the shame is that they have split the family. But I suspect that they don't even care. Just what you can give them. For example, your mother, even after all this, she still makes out you are in the wrong and still wants you to support your stepbrother and give him money. She doesn't seem to have learnt anything. Your stepfather can keep looking at the floor, and as for your step brother, he had a family with a baby on the way and completely ruined it. There are no winners here. Just justice for what is rightfully yours and a future for you on your terms. Maybe in time your family will learn but I doubt it. And it is all their own fault.

r/AmItheDoormat The story makes no sense. If OP provided the down payment, in whose name was the mortgage and how did they pass the credit check? There is no way the sale could have happened unless everything was in OP's name. If the house was in OP's name then there was no way they could "transfer" the deed; they would have had to pay off the mortgage and forged her signature on a sale.
As far as putting family in jail, they earned it. Strike, and and do not count the blow.
Once you've sent evidence of forgery and grand larceny to the DA, it's out of your hands. A civil agreement will not cause the DA to drop charges.
