      @Neurotic Arts im no SJW but i liked Andromeda mind you im a guy who loves exploration. and unlike everyone else i didnt expect cities and shipyards when i got there already. dont get me wrong the Angara were annpying as was the Emo people but over all i liked it. the enemies were easier to figure out but hell even when the US was settled it wasnt one battle that won it from the indians.

      @Neurotic Arts there is only so much they casn fit into a game. its about colonization not war. they did the archon ok. thing is things like the nexus exiles for eg were to familiar and since we have 3 games fighting conventional opponents. The exiles made most enamies easier and the other like the kett and remenent seem dull. if they threw in some recon missions on the kett for example so you could respect them better and no more about them would of helped.
      to compare andromeda to the original trilogy is like comparing the colonozation of Australia to that of the US. chalk and chees Saren,geth,Collectors,Reapers there was already a base there. information being given right from the outset Kett complete unknowns.

      Nazara's attention was divided between fighting Shepard with the remnants of Saren and fighting the alliance fleet.
      Shepard killing the Saren remnants, caused a critical backlash that caused Nazara's shields to malfunction allowing the fleet to kill it.
      Joker's shot was the final hit that killed it.

    I absolutely love the way Mass Effect does its space battles. The ships are so small and sleek, flying at each other at high speeds for maximum impact. Compared to the behemoths in Star Wars, slowly chipping each other away, it's way more dynamic, and honestly a bit beautiful to watch.

    Damn, I just realized if Sovereign was never in Mass Effect 1, and Mass Effect 3 Rolled around, the entire final fleet battle for retaking earth would really be an actual slaughter. Their weaponry sucked before the Turians developed the Thanix. Not to mentions their shieldings sucked as well. The council should be grateful to Sovereign, his presence actually helped the intergalactic fleets when Mass Effect 3 rolls around.

      Here is another interesting detail for you: how do the Reapers maintain their trap? By making sure that everyone uses the Citadel, and Relays, but dare not tinker with them because they don't understand them.
      What is one of the key traits we know about the Rachni? They are a territorial species, driven to close off and back door into their space. If the Rachni had joined the Citadel species they would have figured out the trap. If they had joined their engineering speciality would have pushed everyone forward technologically.
      The Rachni were the perfect puzzle piece of a threat to the Reapers, and Sovereign wiped them out.

      What I don't get is. Why didn't the reapers head straight for the Citadel and shut down the Mass Relays. Then just take their time as they conquer one solar system at the time.
      That was their plan in the first place, but Sovereign couldn't succeed because he was alone. But if the entire reaper fleet went for the citadel immediately, there was nothing we could've done to stop them.

    • @david6455
      @david6455 7 років тому +127

      The rest of the Reapers were still trapped out in dark space. The prothean VI on Ilos explains that the Citadel is actually a massive mass relay that links to dark space. The Reapers had control over the Keepers who would activate the relay when the Citadel sent them a signal. Sovereign was left behind to activate it at the correct time. But the Protheans who survived their cycle on Ilos re-wrote the signal so the Keepers would not respond. Now Sovereign had to find a way to open the relay for the rest of the Reapers and Mass Effect 1 is you basically thwarting his plans. So what you said about that being their plan is basically true, but they didn't know that any Protheans survived so they did not know about the sabotage of the signal. Check out a video of speaking to Vigil (the Prothean VI) or just go replay it. It's one of my favorite scenes from the entire series.

    That moment when humans came and they fly to save the ascension. First, you think it will be easy, geth start exploding everywhere, but then our ships starts exploding as well... In mass effect world, ships are really fragile. The music, the tension, everything.
    There is one scene in ME 2, when you are talking to that bitch ass reporter, as a paragon, you can shut her up, by naming those ships and honoring the dead.

      The idea is, space ships in ME are risky stuff. Without warning, everything around you can just explode in a second. Not many sci-fi universes has this. But you dont know that in ME 1 until you see your first space battle right here, in this cutscene.

Then they start considering the idea of remastering the trilogy but didn't want to make it official because that wanted to figure out how to give the Mass Effect Trilogy the remasters they deserve, and then EA turns around and says they're not going to remaster the trilogy because they would rather put all of their resources into making brand new projects rather that focus on updating old ones

      if my memory serves me right, in ME3 in the Citadel DLC, they established that the Council never stopped believing that the reapers were a threat and that sovereign was a Reaper, the reason why they kept it quiet and then lied about it to Shepard was because they couldn't trust Shepard, afterall Shepard was dead for two years, and then suddenly comes back working for cerberus.
      It was a cop out excuse for the bullshit intellect of the council but then again bioware isn't really known for intelligent plots.

    1. *_No Difference_** ~* If the Renegade choice to hold back the Alliance (Arcturus) fleet would have actually made a difference against Sovereign once the Citadel arms re-opened, I *_MIGHT_* have gone with that Renegade route for my Shepards (both my carry-over-save Shepards, male & female, were Paragons). But no, it is the same fixed result for both Paragon and Renegade, the Alliance fleet engages Sovereign and get their asses kicked either way; so there is/was no point in holding back. ;(
    2. *_Moral Difference_** ~* I also chose the Paragon path not to save the Council, but rather to save the *Destiny Ascension,* for two moral reasons...
    - a.) The Destiny Ascension has a crew compliment of 10,000 (if not more aboard, due to the emergency-evacuation of the Citadel). If it had been a shuttle or even a corvette (smallest capital ship) containing the Council, _THEN_ I might have weighed the numbers against the Council and chosen Renegade (Let the Council die.); but not against 10,000(+) souls facing imminent destruction.
    - b.) Also regardless of the Council, the Destiny Ascension was desperately calling for distress-aid, and it is simply naval/military moral-code to answer an SOS/distress call. If you ignore an SOS, you are likely to get ignored in-turn, when you need it yourself. _{Yes, this is despite the fact that the Council _*_DOES_*_ willfully and selfishly turn away from Earth's call for aid in Mass Effect #3. Never said having the Moral High Ground was perfect to its ideals, but it is still important to have & hold to them. _*_;

      You know to me it holds a much more significant symbolic value, to me it is a heroic moment not just for Shepard but all of humanity and it shows all the other races we are willing to bleed for the sake of all, it is the Alliance Navy's finest hour in my opinion, all those ships and their crews made a willing sacrifice to go into the frey with all the other races and die side by side, to protect more than our selfish interests.
      It also feel great to see the other races cheer that Human ships have arrived to help, because by that point we have seen the council races sneer at humanity treating us like children and now here we come their salvation, I guess that it is a bit of a comeupance to me in a positive way, we humans who were so feared by the other races now are the reason they can cheer and feel safe, there is a powerful feeling to it, almost like a feeling of fuck yeah we are awesome.
      To me I cry every time that I get to this part because it is an emotional experience to me, the feeling of swelling pride in my chest and joy at seeing this daring attack from humanity when we don't know if we will be thanked or looked down to even more, it shows selfless behaviour from humanity and other races might be too different to really understand the real meaning behind helping like that in such a selfless manner, but it to me shows the best side of humanity.

      agree...although i think the biggest problem in the first game was that other than the destiny ascension and the geth fleet, they didn't really have any other alien ships in the game. this is probably due to production costs but either way, it means the turian ships are basically just placeholders for turian, asari, salarian, and anyone else who might have a ship or two guarding the citadel. less turians being weak and more spaceships being expensive to design, model, texture, rig, and animate all for one scene

They are supremely arrogant, and this is reflected entirely in Sovereign, he is all the Reapers represent. In a way it is thematic, the Reapers represent the collective evils that technology carries with it, and organic element, represent the good that can be worked through technology for a greater purpose than just itself. A very Star Trek inspired idea I would say.

      "Over the next several centuries, the Protheans fought the Reapers from system to system, world to world, and city to city. If necessary, whole colonies were sacrificed and abandoned to the Reapers; while the Reapers concentrated on subsuming the inhabitants of those colonies, the Protheans had time to regroup. In the long run, however, this strategy was extremely costly, depriving the remaining Protheans of whatever infrastructure and manpower they had given up. Inexorably, the Reapers conquered, enslaved, or destroyed Prothean-controlled planets. Growing desperate, some Protheans made repeated offers of surrender to the Reapers, but these were always met with silence." mass effect wiki

      @Cain You actually don't, you lose like 2-3 fighter class ships. Also, I can understand the comments of this thread if you are talking about people who chose "Let the council die" but there's a third option which is to "Concentrate on Soveriegn" which implies there's a difference in the events, there is not but there was no way for you to know that since these events are written exclusively for emotional payoff and not how you would logically expect them to play out. If I knew that saving the DA would have absolutely 0 effect on the chances of Sovereign succeeding then of course I would have saved them, why wouldn't you. But despite how annoyingly shortsighted Ashley is throughout the game, she put it best (well, partly, she did still sound hateful in other lines) "Maybe the Alliance can destroy Sovereign before it can regain control of the Citadel". This implies that it CAN regain control of the Citadel and when you think about what will happen if it does (a literally infinite amount of lives and races will be made extinct over the course of literally eternity, a never ending amount of time) saving 10,000 lives is an infinitely small number compared to literally infinite lives.

    Coming back here... I now know why I didn't really like the space battle for ME3. Sure it had all the elements for a grand Star Wars-esque fight, but it just didn't deliver on one thing. Tension.
    Here... Sovereign doesn't give a single fuck - for his enemies or his allies. The geth were only used as a distraction, something that would keep the Citadel busy while he focused on controlling Saren and accessing the Mass Relay located within the station. He doesn't even attack until the fleet starts to focus on him, all resistance he literally strolls right through. The Turian fleet, the largest assortment of ships with the most firepower protecting the Citadel is outright run over by Sovereign, no attempt to actually fire mass drivers, just pushes past them.
    In ME3... there isn't that threat. Reapers, who apparently outnumber the giant armada assembled to fight them, (WHO EVEN HAD MORE REAPERS IN RESERVE BUT NEVER THOUGHT TO BRING THEM IN,) feel weaker. After seeing this, you'd think that the only hope they had would be to rush for the Crucible to fire the weapon in a last ditch attack. What happens in a drawn out scene where Reapers are shot down, crippled and destroyed. They aren't just a bigger, beefier type of ship, the Reapers are the ultimate destroys of life, they've been built up too much. Seeing what Sovereign was capable of, losing so much while Harbinger taunted you, listening to Leviathan express its doubts at its own continued survival... the final battle just didn't live up to all the power and fear that lies with the thought of a 'Reaper'. They weren't as strong, or as powerful or psychologically terrifying, which is why I boot up Mass Effect every once in a while. Playing through to this ending... it's just perfect.

      +The Iron Crown No estoy de acuerdo.

      AdeptKing I don’t recall everyone viewing humanity as scum. They’re viewed as a very young species that is overly ambitious and at times dangerously reckless. Some species resent humanity for their rapid rise to prominence in the galactic community. But I don’t recall any accusations of scumbaggery.

    Picking the paragon option/saving the council does make the most sense because you are essentially knocking out two enemies (Geth and Sovereign). Using the Alliance fleet to flank and sneak attack the Geth would free up the Citadel fleet to help take down Sovereign. After all, if you don't deal with the Geth, then the Geth fleet might flank the Alliance fleet when they are fighting Sovereign. Holding your reserves does make sense (renegade option), but good commanders know when to deploy your reserves (paragon option) at critical moments and good opportunities.

    I find it kinda awesome, how both the SR1 and SR2 Normandy both are flown as if they were Fighters or Corvettes, while it's still a fucking Frigate... Both of them really... Meanwhile, the workhorse of all navies, the Cruisers simply stay more or less immobile (as much as it is possible while in space) waiting to be punished xD

  • @HeadshotProductio100

    How is abandoning the council "renegade" exactly? I figured that having all the ships focused on the enemy that was going to seize the citadel and warp in a force capable of destroying all life in the galaxy was more important than saving three important, though ultimately, replaceable people. You know, gotta sacrifice them for the greater good and all.
    So I went nearly full paragon, but the council bought it in this scene.

    • @HeadshotProductio100
      @HeadshotProductio100 9 років тому +11

      Agent North Dakota Still, if we lost too many ships trying to save the Ascension and we couldn't take down Sovereign, none of that would have mattered so I still don't see the action as "renegade". If anything, committing troops to save the Ascencion rather than making sure you can take down Sovereign is a more risky and less responsible move making it more aggressive or renegade.

      and they made another 180 and said they would rather focus on newer projects rather than updating old ones. Even though it would be a very smart choice to bring the Mass Effect Trilogy to PS4 and Xbox One before Andromeda came out. Just think about it, they remaster the trilogy, than everyone can play through all three games and get ready to import a save file into Andromeda the same way everyone did before to avoid using an online cloud feature like Dragon Age Inquisition did with Dragon Age Keep

    This isn't in character with Shepherd or the overall theme of the previous games. Shepherd never chose the options offered to him. He stubbornly fought for the ridiculous alternative. He went on suicide missions against gods and came out of it the winner.
    This is not the guy who would listen to a shiny-god-child's options and decide that he has to choose one of them. This is a guy who tells god-child he's gonna fuck him in the ass - just like he told Sovereign.
