Ah yes, maybe 1 minute of plagiarism in a 1:14:08 video. Unforgivable. I like hbomberguy but his video implies that this whole thing is plagiarised when it's just heavily inspired. Sure he should have credited the few quotes he used but that's it.
@@Versace_sheets Apparently he plagiarised stuff from that as well. Compare 23:30 in Cost of Concordia to "Another Night to Remember" in Vanity Fair 2012 and CTRL+F "safe but shivering" how much has he been plagiarizing this whole time
Honestly, I couldn't blame them. They're probably so hyper-focused on saving him through one way, that they just forgot to think rationally and actually try something else.
I really loved the first upload and was pretty disheartened to hear the script was plagiarised. I wouldn't have thought any less of the channel had they just marketed it as an animated and fully narrated version of the source material citing the original appropriately. It was so well written by the og author and adding your narration and animation were great additions.
The worst part for me is now I’m reevaluating my thoughts on his past videos and will doubt anything new that comes out too. I hope the sponsorships were worth the massive reputation hit.
@@redblueandgray fr that's literally all it would've taken for there to be no drama. The article is very good and IH clearly thinks so, so it would've taken nothing to just hit up the writer on twitter for permission and then claim this video is an appreciation of the original article. Absolutely brainless move for no reason.
Insane to me how that simple act of courtesy and providing some amount of compensation to the writer for their hard work on a video that got millions of views a juicy sponsorship and was a surefire hit on an incredibly popular channel just never crossed his mind. Ego really supersedes all, I suppose.
Why was 6 afraid of 7? It's a fairly common question, mostly because when people see 6 and 7 next to each other, it doesn't really make sense. 6 is large, muscled, and trained in multiple martial arts, while 7 is fairly average, physically, and short. However, 6's fear of 7 has its roots in childhood. See, 6 and 7 grew up together, and for a few years, they were best friends. But then 6 kissed 3, and they became childhood sweethearts. 7 secretly had feelings for 3, so 7 decided he needed to destroy 6 to win 3's affection. He started subtly, undermining 6 whenever possible with passive aggressive comments and compli-sults. But over time, things got much more insidious. 7 started messing with 6's performance in school, bringing down his grades and turning teachers against him. Even worse, 7 became great friends with 6's parents and slowly turned them against their own offspring. At night, 7 would sneak into 6's bedroom, and whisper depressing and hopeless things into his ears. Every time 3 was around, 7 would pants 6 and make fun of his genitalia, or try to body shame him in other ways. However, 3 was both smart and compassionate, and saw through 7's schemes, sticking with 6, trying to counter 7's psychological tear-down with compliments and friendship. Finally, 7 decided that he would never be able to win 3, so he drugged both 6 and 3, taking them to an abandoned cobbler's hut on the edge of town. There, he proceeded to torture and maim 3, forcing 6 to watch in horror, unable to do anything to save his sweetheart. 7 didn't kill 3, but instead, put her in a semi-vegetative state. 7 cleaned the scene of his prescence, then called the cops, having 6 blamed for 3's condition. 6 was sent to prison, believing 6 was guilty, 6's parents fell into a deep depression, eventually committing suicide over what they believed 6 had done. After serving 17 years of a 30 year sentence, and getting out on good behaviour, 6, now muscled and skilled as a fighter, thought he might get revenge on 7. But when he finally tracked down 7, he found out that 7 had installed a micro-bomb into 3's body, and should he be killed, the bomb would automatically go off and kill 3 as well. And though she was still in a mostly fugue state, 6 couldn't bring himself to hurt her any further, and decided to try and move on with his life. However, being an ex-con, it was difficult for him to get a job. 6 finally found employment at a diner, which 7 then bought, and proceeded to again undermine and toy with 6 at every turn. 6 tried to find employment elsewhere, but 7 contacted any potential employer and soured them against 6. 6 finally realized that no matter what he did, 7 was going to try and ruin his life, and he resigned himself to living as a broken, lonely man, never able to stand up to the depraved, amoral 7.

@@bmo14laxHbomberguy released an extremely long in-depth video about plagiarism and dedicated a good 20 minutes or so to this video. Go check it out, it’s a good video
I’ve thought about Miller a lot since the first upload. A man who got involved for a story but stayed because it was the right thing to do. We could always use more of his type, good people.
He was truly the diametric of modern journalists…. A man that for no reason would help a stranger and risk his life while everyone else stands by, that’s a real HERO.
It's impressive that even on a repeat performance all the people involved give seriously evocative and emotional performances. My compliments to the VAs involved, especially Wendigoon, who actually sealed himself in a cave and died *TWICE* for the sake of the video.
The plagiarism sucks for sure, but I think the part that really gets to me is the fact that he tried so hard to hide it. Like it still would’ve been a great video to just have a retelling of the article, but for some reason he couldn’t source the author for his work and wanted it to be his
and what really sucks for me personally is the fact I REALLY loved this dude's videos, knowing the amount of research and digging he DOES do I just can't look at his content the same. What if he steals from very niche and unpublished works? What if his past coverings are ripped from deleted forum posts word for word? It's just disappointing. If he owned up to it I would feel very differently.
@@ActualDavis yeah exactly. If he fully owned up to it as a mistake and said he won’t do it again. I think it’s a fully forgivable offense, but it’s hard to imagine him going out of his way to bring more people to attention after he tried so hard to push it under the rug
So, what happened to them? Homer Collins passed away of liver complications in Louisville, KY, September 1969, aged 66. William "Skeets" Miller had, to put it mildly, a hell of a career. He died in Sebastian, FL, December 1983, aged 79. Robert Burdon stayed on with the fire department, retiring a battalion chief in 1953. He passed away in Louisville in December of 1961, aged 69. Johnnie Gerald, sadly, was killed in a car crash returning home from a fishing trip in December 1965. He was 73.
It’s insane to think that these people lived long enough to see rockets, computers, and the Cold War. The video makes the whole event look like it happened ages ago when really it was so recent.
Can you imagine if this video was an adaptation of the original article? Not only would it add to the original writing by having cool visuals and narration but it would also bring attention to a great writer. Honestly if it was obvious that this is another persons writing and not IH’s this video would still be praised to hell and back like it has been already, but noooo IH can’t give credit to someone else he’s a special little boy
@@lsksniper1936 Not only was it a reupload of a copyright struck video where he didnt credit and almost verbatim took everything the article said but this is the 2nd reupload the first got copyright struck as well. On top of refusing to acknowledge what he did at best to flat out trying to cover it up by using altered images of the strike notice so you cant see who it was struck by etc etc. If he just did it then made an apology that would be one thing but he instead, just said it was struck and let people speculate and go wild, reupload still not explaining anything and pretending not to know why and answering no one when asked to then reuploading again (this one) still not explaining the copyright strike and using a altered image of the strike. The only thing he gets right here is finally crediting and even then he had to run through and remove sections cause they directly showed his theft of the work. I honestly love his stuff but this made me really really sad.
His active attempt to specifically not credit the author of the article he's reading almost in its entirety is pretty scummy ngl, made me lose some of the respect I had and it sucks because I loved IH content.
Miller wasn't connected to Floyd in any way. He wasn't his brother or even his friend. He was just a young upstart journalist that thought this story would be his big break into success. He could have just as easily left and profiteered off of it with how widespread it became, but he didn't. He stayed and helped when no one else would because it was the right thing to do. God bless you, Miller!!!
In a twisted way, he got what he wanted. Visitors and tourists to his cave, to show them a glimpse of another world. Breaks my heart that it happened that way, though.

It's amazing how petty and damning most people are. A single mess up and you'll abandon someone or jump at their throat, even if it was already rectified. I hope you take some time to reflect and learn to think for yourself.
Some people have said this but, I just want to say that if he structured this as a dramatic retelling and did the voice over and the animation, then this would’ve slapped. I mean he did that for the pirate thing on his other channel. The world’s worst pirate or whatever it’s called, he literally said that wasn’t his story. And then he made a recreation. Ironically enough that’s my favorite video of his. He really screwed up here
Turns out he actually plagiarized the pirate video from a netflix show but it took a long time for people to notice because he made a lot of bizarre changes like inventing random characters who never existed and removing all the lgbtp content so his right wing bigot audience would be able to watch it without filling their diapers.

@@Fitingbros101sure but loneliness is even a bit reductive; he was more than alone, he was trapped, brutalized and tortured by the conditions of the cave.
Kind of sad how much the situation deteriorated because of the crowd. There's no way of really telling how it would have gone if the crowd never formed or dispersed before the cave environment changed because of them. Good video as always
That's the irony of his situation. The crowd itself is the reason the government and the army actually stepped down to help but also the reason why even they can't help him.
Under ideal circumstances he definitely would have lived. Too many mistakes by others caused his death, but he tested his fate by going in that cave in the first place
Upon second viewing, there is a looming sense of dread. You know what's going to happen to Floyd and you can't stop thinking about how sad he must have been. It's worth a second watch.
Easily my favorite video on this channel. I told my family it was a movie, but after the first few minutes they mostly dispersed. Slowly they started returning, standing around the tv going “he’s still in that cave?” It was great. Thanks Floyd Collins.
Well his videos went from averaging 10m to 2-3m. So he definitely took a hit from it. I stopped watching him _because_ he never addressed the situation. Saying nothing at all pretty much confirms he knowingly plagiarized it and got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. All he had to do was admit he fucked up, apologize, and say he won't do it again. Saying nothing just makes him look like a scumbag...

tbh he doesnt owe me or you anything. im sure the matter was settled with the guy who wrote the article privately (as it should imo) hence the guy didnt sue or anything and didnt copystrike the video again. its kinda weird how we got to a point on a parasocial level where we expect every youtuber to owe us an explanation and an apology to make us feel better. they're not our friends they just make content and we consume it for our entertainment. also i noticed how he started citing his sources in his latest videos in the video itself so that shows that hes improved and is learning from past mistakes. and yes im a little biased because i do believe his team puts an incredible level of work and effort into editing production and even research (costa concordia & no mans sky for example) donno what happened with man in cave, but it happened. and the fact it was just this one video shouldnt fully discredit all the work the team cranks into these channels imo.
It's really cool how the Cave is treated like a character, especially with lines like ''the Cave had had enough'' ''the Cave would parry them away'' ''the Cave was not done with Floyd'' A very nice touch.
The most haunting part of this was the last time anyone saw Collin alive, face-to-face. That moment when he asked for the survey guy to stick with him as the cave collapse will just haunt my dreams for life, it is just so gut-wrenching imagining that.
Honestly the most disturbing part was that most of the aftermaths could have been prevented if the people weren't just waiting just outside the cave. The crowd just worsened the situation by a substantial amount of consequences.
I'm not even gonna hold it against him. If he died from the cave in, he essentially got lucky, but if he lived, it'd be even more misery, even moreso if he goes through it alone
Props to you guys for reviving Wendigoon just to make him suffer the same fate all over again. At this point I truly believe it's the story of Wendigoon going through the nine circles of hell just like Dante.

As much as I roll my eyes at UA-cam -- both as a viewer and creator of videos -- I largely give it a pass when it comes to copyright. Their implementation of their system is largely the result of US copyright law. UA-cam doesn't adjudicate copyright claims, that's a matter for the courts if the two parties want to go that route. Ultimately, blaming UA-cam for copyright claims and strikes is like blaming the cop for your speeding ticket. And that now that I have defended UA-cam, I will take a shower.

I can’t help but wonder if Floyd died hoping everyone was still trying to rescue him, or if he thought they had given up and left him to die
I think he knew they were trying. There's an phenomenon that happens when people give up all hope where they'll just... die.

As much as I roll my eyes at UA-cam -- both as a viewer and creator of videos -- I largely give it a pass when it comes to copyright. - The best of humanity being shown with everyone working so hard to save Floyd, and the worst with those taking advantage of his death
- The surveyor that was forced to leave Floyd behind when he didn’t want to be trapped alone. I can’t help but wonder if Floyd died hoping everyone was still trying to rescue him, or if he thought they had given up and left him to die
