I'm having troubles.. as I put too much pressure every time I pass on the smoother to the sides .. so it scrapes lots of buttercream and I have to put some more every time .. then I feel like stuck in this loop 😂 of scraping and putting more .. then scraping and putting more 🤣🤣 .. and if I scrape gently .. I feel like doing nothing at all 🤔... am I dum or does anyone face the same problem here 🤣 and how to fix that pleaaaase tell me
I scrape lightly but several times... the whole process of scraping, touching up by spreading more onto indents and then scraping scraping scraping takes maybe 15 minutes
Omg !!!!! This is why I’m on this video lol you should see the cake i made yesterday i had no idea what i was doing wrong just back n fourth back n fourth
Please help me I always fail to come up with a neat smooth cake is there a special way on how-to hold the scraper,? Secondly is it to push the turning table fast or slow? Lastly why is it that my cakes after frosting the lower part will be bigger than the upper part ? And always use whipping cream please please help me
Hey hi i saw courses offered by you just wanted to know that you teach eggles cake also... As i am from India and vegetarian can't use egg. Eager to learn from you... Thanks
I use my 4 Minute Buttercream (recipe link in the video description) but this will work with any kind of frosting e.g. whipped cream, ganache, meringue buttercream
I got so cross with my icing last night. My stand mixer kenwood ring broke, so had to use a hand mixer for huge amount. It was hot and humid, so it got too soft. Realise did not use enough frosting and cake recipe I use is just not firm enough, also I need smaller tins so can practice. Who knew cake decorating could be so stressful!

Thank you. I think my biggest challenge was stacking the cakes so that the cake looks straight. And the top also doesnt look as smooth as the sides do. Any suggestions on what i can do there? I usually end up decorating the top to cover it up just so it doesnt show :D
If you have trouble with stacking straight cakes, try filling your cake in the pan using acetate collar, it is game changing. The best way to get a straight top is actually straighten them smooth as best as you can before moving to the sides. After frosting and smoothing the sides, freeze or chill ur cake till the icing is super cold and completely solid then cut the lip of frosting with a hot sharp knife
To stack the cake use Boba straw and for smooth edges do the crumb coat and then put it in the fridge for some hours and then wipe the whole cake. Hope it helps☺️☺️
One thing I don't understand is I put a generous amount of frosting and you still see the cake peeking through. Is there a reason why that is happening
Is it happening all over the cake or only in a certain place? If it's only in one area, it could be that the cake is leaning slightly and then your cake comb will scrape off the frosting and expose the cake underneath. I shared a tutorial a few weeks ago on how to fix a leaning cake that might help! ua-cam.com/video/0QqDL8iKtok/v-deo.html

Hi! The Basics of Buttercream course includes a more in-depth video on how to make buttercream and troubleshooting of issues like yellow buttercream, graininess, lumps, air bubbles, and melting. It also includes how to colour buttercream and how to create any shade with the principles of mixing colours, how to calculate how much buttercream to use, how to store it, and an overview of buttercream techniques. You can find out more here: britishgirlbakes.teachable.com/p/the-basics-of-buttercream
The frosting at my job isn't exactly buttercream its palm oil or something very thick... taught to pipe it on first and the smooth. But maybe this will be easier for me

Thank for this video. Question, after icing the cake do you put in fridge before decorating?
It depends on the decorations! For piping or stenciling, yes, so that the pressure doesn't damage the frosting or create bulges in it

Do we need to thin the butter cream for crumb coating??
It depends on the consistency of the buttercream you're starting with. If it's difficult to spread the buttercream onto the cake then yes
Thank you.
