Tying feathers on Regalia, making fans or just for decoration, you need a tie point and this is how it is done. buy Insta-Set here: amzn.to/2K1WHZ4 buy sinew here; amzn.to/2KefRKB
I haven’t been able to grow up on or near my rez so I missed out on a lot of teachings on things like this. Thank you for posting these videos, you’re really helping me out ❤
thank you so much, its wonderful to see skills like this able to be passed down online! our elders have so much wisdom and skills that we are losing! im actually here because i am crafting with bone and feathers (and every part needs to be as natural as possible) and i knew native americans would know EXACTLY what to do. and i was right! i knew i needed to wrap the string around the feather to tie it but i couldn't figure it out. this is awesome
Thank you for this teaching! I have collected feathers on my walks and hikes in nature for a very long time. And now I want to create something with them. Your expertise and sacred knowledge have helped me in understanding how to work with them in a respectful and more natural way.
Thank you for this knowledge! A predator got some kind of dove/pigeon in a field near me and I picked up the scattered flight feathers. I wanted to try and make something with them, but it's difficult to find methods for attaching feathers that don't use some kind of glue or plastic, which I really dislike using. I'm going to try this on feathers with a smaller shaft and see how it goes :) thank you!
Thank you for this amazing video, and for sharing your knowledge & wisdom. I have often wondered how these beautiful items are made. I cannot tell you how grateful I am or how much I appreciate it. I am 63 and I have loved the native culture since I was 10 years old. There is an incredible amount of beauty, artistry and knowledge in the creations made by our indigenous brothers & sisters. Thank you for sharing. I can definitely see why you like natural sinew. How do you identify it in a carcass, say maybe a Turkey? How to harvest & store it? I look forward to your future videos.
A half moon notch can also be cut on the back side of the quill and the tip is then bent and the tip reinserted into the top end of the notch on the quill. I like how you are doing it though. On feathers your method leaves more quill length. I was just taught the other method when young. Best regards.
Thank you for the video! I was wondering how to make a loop on the end of a feather so I could attach the feathers I find on my trailrides, to my saddle- exactly what I was looking for!
I just killed my first turkey and have been waiting to put it on my grandfathers who passed away last year’s old cowboy hat I got it steamed to fit me and now I know how to do this. Thank you so much. Rest In Peace grandpa.
@@donaldporta you are welcome. I have started making flutes. And I am building one for a friend. I have been wanting to stick to all traditional methods for the whole build for him. This is just what I was looking for. I tie flies as well, so Also like fine thread...you mentioned beads, do you have any videos or recommendations for learning traditional methods with that?
Thank you! I have a question. I did the lashing wrap with artificial sinew... But I didn't remember about cutting the quill. I am so glad I saw your video this morning. Thank you.
Great Job!!!!You are the first vid I have seen where the craftsman actually knew how to do this correctly. So much terrible information out there. Some even by Native Americans who have lost the true knowledge of the ancestors. Just because someone is Native blood this guarantees nothing.
I'm trying to make a feather accessory for my leather hat with three feathers, sinew would be absolutely perfect for that it would seem but of course I don't have any
What's kind of bird feather do you use in the video? Anyway, thanks for giving down the invisible treasure of American Indian skills. They are pretty and eye catching in the modern urban still life. Hahaha, thanks.
OSIYO. WHAT IS THE NATURAL SENU? MADE OF. DO YOU DO REGALIA FEATHER FANS. I JUST GOT CONNECTED WITH MY CHEROKEE TRIBE AND I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO REGALIA OR FEATHERS. FEATHER FAN FOR THE CIRCLE DANCING. DO YOU USE PAINTED FEATHERS? WADO
sinue is the connective tissue on the mussel that is pealed off, it is very tough and tightens as it drys, making it very good for this and other projects that require a very tight bond. goose and turkey feathers can be straightened and died for use on regalia.

I also have a friend that got it into his eyes and it is not pleasant, emergency room visit and no eye damage!

the loop you create at the end gives you a tie point.
Thank you 🤟
Sinew is from the tendons of mammals. I wonder how to make it.

Can I order one from you
Could I make sinew from the lining I peel from a rack of pork ribs? Hang it to dry.
I don't know if this is the same connective tissue, worth a try!
Do you know how to sew plumes together? To make them bigger? You should make a video about plumes
will do!
Is this the same method you use on a. Bonnett
yes
What kind of feathers are those Turkey or Pheasant?
turkey
It works well when you chew it but leaves a nasty smell
Chee brush your teeth
How to clean feathers that are green from being in the lake for a while?
I would think dunk then in a mild bleach solution, then rinse.
What can I do alternatively if I dont have sinue?
fishing twine is good --- then use nail polish to coat the windings. either clear coat or add color to give an added bling!
@@donaldporta ok, thank you
I also should ask if that is ideal for a dream catcher, I am making one for me mum
