      @@abstract5249 It's kind of freeing in a way, from my view. I grew up in a capital city but later spent my teenage years in a small village, and eventually moved to a small town. In places like that, everyone sort of knows each other, so there’s less guessing about social dynamics. You know who’s welcome where and when. It feels more grounded, like privacy still exists differently. Dunno, I just know I like smaller places. It’s quieter, the air quality is better, and you get less sick, haha.

    11:15 it would not "blow up time zone by time zone" - the problem was inherent in *nix-based operating systems (a majority of server infrastructure at the time), for which the time is tracked based on the number of milliseconds since 1/1/1970 GMT (specifically at that time zone). The problematic integer overflow underlying "The Y2K Bug" occurred in all un-patched systems at roughly the same time (depending on how synchronized they were). I'm sure its more complicated than that, and, like you, I have some subtle mistakes in my explanation, but the point is that the "system time" that had this issue was not affected by time zones. This is the one petty internet correction I allow myself to try to make per year, I hope it was worth it.

      Same section. There are actually not 24 timezones but 36 in the world. There are 14 areas with 30 min. or 45 min. timezones, two of these have the same time, so 12 extra timezones. E.g. Cocos Islands (UTC +6:30) or Chatham Island (UTC +12:45).

    • @aburdett85
      @aburdett85 7 днів тому +2

      "System time" is UTC (coordinated universal time [don't shoot me for the letters being out of order]); timezones are irrelevant.
      Considering Neil deGrasse Tyson works intimately with such things, I find it impossible to forgive his ignorance, in this case.
      Y2K was a HUGE concern.

    I loved Terry Cruse question about gravity, I didn’t watch Family Guy much ,however, the one episode I Laughed so hard and still remember is when Peter gains so much weight his dog shows him objects of the house orbiting Peter.
    Love the show ,as always

    As someone who has worked for a moving/cabinet delivery/flooring delivery for over a decade since I was 14. I remember people always doubting me, I knew why 5’6” back then 100lbs, makes sense to doubt. But doing it all day every day, I could lift pianos and walk with them, the lifting isn’t necessarily the hard part, now you gotta walk out a door with it.
    My favourite thing to happen was we were doing a small move for an older gentleman, he had a baby grand piano and didn’t think I could carry it with my boss so he got his neighbour body builder to come carry it. He could lift it fine but struggled to take a step, he just couldn’t cause he didn’t train for that. The look on their faces when I pick it up and walk out the door with it down the few front steps was priceless.
