    Cumbustion chambers
    -GSR: 41.6cc
    *quench pads
    -ITR/CTR: 42.7cc
    *no quench pads
    -B16: 42.7cc
    *no quench pads
    Intake ports
    -GSR: unported
    -ITR/CTR: ported
    -B16: unported
Cams in terms of size (1= smallest 4 biggest)
    -GSR: 2
    -ITR: 3
    -B16A: 1
    -B16B: 4
    Valve springs
    -GSR: single valve springs
    -ITR/CTR: dual valve springs
    -B16: single valve springs
Conclusion (personal opinions, facts will be marked with an "*"):
While the B16a, B16b and B18C5 all share the same casting, the only real difference is the mild port work, cams and valve springs.*
The GSR is the odd ball head here, the intake flange is not compatible with the rest of the B-series engine whether a B16a/b, B18C5, B18a/b or B20a/b. To fit any of those intakes on, you must redrill the flange.*
The in my opinion, unless you want scene point, TypeR head isnt worth the money. If youre building a motor, youre going to be swapping the cams and valve springs anyway, and porting the head even further so why pay that extra money for something you cant take advantage of? That being said, if i had to choose (and i have already) between a B16a/TypeR or GSR head, i would always choose a GSR head even though the GSR head costs more than a B16a head and isnt ported with milder cams and springs than a TypeR.
Here is why: the GSR has quench pads, that not only helps boost the compression a bit, but also helps prevent detonation by providing in cylinder mixture. Given nothing else has changed from the moment these engines and heads were assembled. Take a TypeR, it either has an 11.32cr for the Japanese model or 10.8cr for the US version of the B18C and 10.76 for the B16B. Now remove that Type R head and cap the short block with a GSR head and the TypeR B18C goes up to 11.59cr for the japanese version, 11.04cr for the US version and 11.03cr for the B16B. Now factor in a 4% increase in power for every 1.0 bump in compression and you will have gain roughly 1hp with each engine. Although that may not seem like much as is, because of the decresed chance of detonation, now you can run even more advanced ignition timing and make slighlty more power. Now thats for stock engines and probably really impractical if you have a complete engine but say you bought just a short block, i would just go for a GSR head, or if youre building an engine from top to bottom like me, im going for a 12:1 CR and still try to run on pump gas, a GSR head just might allow that while not running too big a dome (i prefer flat top pistons over domed).
Second reason why i would choose a GSR head, porting it to gasket match is going to be more beneficial than just the mild bowl work the TypeR head has. And given the extra cost of the TypeR head, its not worth it.
Third reason(s) is the valve train. Yes the TypeR heads have more aggressive cams and dual valve springs but if youre like me, youre not going to be keeping the stock valve train anyway so why pay extra for what you wont use?
So more compression at a safer level, and unnecessary items is why i would choose a GSR head over any B-series head. Also, when Dart opted to cast their own B-series based head, they chose to use quench pads (like the GSR) even though they decided to increase the chamber volume to increase the cylinder volume for more power with boosted applications.

The numbers indicated at the end of the video just means the dates, “97” is the year “3” is the month, “13” is the day and “6” is the batch, so it’s the 6th “batch”/block made on March 13th of 1997, this is indicated in case there was an issue with the block introduced in the future to pinpoint the engines made on that day

If you buy one buy the "high compression" version , one is low compression either 8.6:1 or 8.8:1 , high comp version aside from making 30hp more (way underrated factory specs people) has a green knock sensor in the back side of the block under the intake manifold near the oil filter , if it doesn't have this sensor it's not worth it cause it's a low compression 128hp engine that's about all ya get , however the high comp version is estimated 155-160hp though factory rated at 146 which is def underrated for sure , I've dealt alot with bseries motors including much to do with the nonvtec variants which are almost just as good a platform to start with people when building a motor , just saying I've seen them put out nearly 250-260hp all motor , so they are just as capable just may be harder to achieve and possibly more expensive as well

on the left side of the head between the distributor and vtec solenoid, there will be a stamped code that telling what type of head it is. its either p30 for b16a/b18cr and p72 for gsr. one thing why b18cr heads are stamped with p30 and not p73 is because they are using the same on the b16a but its port and polished on the intake side and different internals.

Bolt pattern of the distributors are noticeably different as well. Best way to know what you got is check the block stamp, then check the VIN to make sure it ain't stolen but generally if it ain't ground off its not stolen, but ya never know. Forgot about the pr3 cast code ya got me on that one, damn I'm getting rusty. Pr3 type r head comes with dual valvesprings and much stronger retainers as well, not sure if the type R head actually has bigger valves or not in it , I'd assume it would.

dont remember what ALL the numbers on the left side of the exhaust ports mean, but the first one that looks like "9/7" indicates the year it was made... 9/7= 97 i.e. 1997....which is another way to also help determine the part's origin...

From the little I have been able to find out in a related enquiry the Honda B18C2 is the aussie domestic market 1998 - 2001 Integra DC2 Type-R version of awesomeness. We identified a clear need for lightning fast accelleration in typical aussie driving conditions out back on stretches of road hundreds of miles long, with little to no traffic, and not many external things to slow us down. Very nice engines, sound pretty racy with the right pipes 'n echo chamber setup.

    little correction brother
the header for the type r is both 4-1 and 4-2-1
the main difference is the year
    95-97 :4-2-1
    98-01: 4-1
    the compression ratio is different
    10.6:1 gsr
    11.1:1 type r (98-01)
if you are not sure about the engine check the serial number on it there's a website with the serial numbers of those engines if it doesn't match they screwed you wich I hope not!

there is something else you should look for to determine Type R from GSR. The type R had an Oil Cooler and GSR did not. Also the ITR had a thicker dust cover(aluminum i think) for the flywheel and gsr had thin metal cover..
if u have the option to see motor in person have them pull the plugs to see if piston code is atleast correct p72 gsr, pr3 ITR
i dont know for certain but i do think that the whole rotating assembly is different between the 2. been told ITR has knife edge crank thats balanced for higher rpms aswell

The price difference between a type r and a gsr is stupid, you can get a gsr, put an intake, cam and header on, make more power than the type r and save a grand

Only 98 Spec Integra Type R have the 4-1 stainless header. 95-97 Integra Type R has a cast iron 4-2-1 header the same design as the SiR-G engine but it has longer primary runners and enlarged secondary with a 2.5" collector vs a 2.25" collector for b16 and SiR-G. B18C Type R engine serial number also starts at 190-220.

Can you make a video on how much a basic mostly oem GSR build should APPROXIMATELY run for? I'm getting my 95ls back on the road, it's got a B18C. I presume it's Japan spec considering it's just "b18c" no numbers. It burns quite a bit of oil and I'm looking to maybe rebuild it. My crank should be solid, and I would really only go for head work, the block down would be stock

Nice vid mate. Australia got the B18C7 which came out in the 2000 Integra Type R. Another way of telling a Type R, well here in Oz anyway is on the very front, lhs of the block near the bottom i(as you stand at the front of the car) it will say whether it is B18C or whatever, mine has C7 as we got the latest and greatest of the B18 donks. Anyhow, great vid bro, keep up the good work. It also has a PR3 ecu behind the passenger footwell on the inside of the car where the feet would go.

Also, does your trans make a slight whining when decelerating in 4th. My stock ls trans did it, and also my jdm gsr trans does it. Just wondering if anyone else's does this??? And why only in 4th?

Max Herman my transmission did something similar as well but the sound i cant hear anymore due to an exhaust upgrade. Check the: Input shaft bearing, Throwout bearing, and check and fill your transmission fluid. Hope this helps😎

The other thing that's easy to tell which is which, just look at the upper hose housing on the head. If it's in the front closest to the header it's GSR, if it's towards the back, closest to the intake manifold it's a type R or B16 head

the fastest way to determine for B18C GSR engine is intake manifold and coolant outlet. No other B series have coolant water outlet in the front of the head. i'm surprise no body talk about this.

Type R head are Pr3 castings, so B16 head can use the p73 Intake manifold.
