- Having spent a couple of days at anchor in some stunning islands in the Gulf of Lyon near Marseille we began to navigate our way past the navigation buoys and towards an anchorage near the mouth of the mighty Rhône river when we spotted something half buried in the sand…
We anchored and went ashore to investigate and found the mast of a shipwrecked sailing boat being consumed by the sand!!! Please join us as we show you this haunting sight and as we’re treated to a scary but spectacular lightning show at anchor.
Finally, it’s time for our haul out, which turns out to be a nerve wracking time too as we watch our floating home being pulled out of the water by a tractor towing her on a trailer and we hear a loud pop!

Wow, what an incredible find! It's amazing how the sea can hide treasures like this buried sailboat. I'm glad you were able to uncover it and share this fascinating adventure with us. Merry Christmas to you both. Stay safe and keep sailing! 🌊⛵️🎄 🙌
It was an amazing thing to see even if it was sad at the same time. I’m glad you enjoyed discovering it with us. Merry Christmas and Happy New year to you 🎅🏼🎉🎊⛵️
Really interesting looking spot. Watching this on Christmas Day in very windy and grey Brighton.... so Happy Christmas!
Happy Christmas Janet, nice to bring a bit of sunshine to a grey windy U.K. in Brighton! It’s not as warm in southern Spain as it was back in the summer but still very nice. Christmas dinner in shorts and t shirts! I hope you have a wonderful New Year 😊🎊🎉⛵️
Happy Christmas 🎄and best wishes for 2024 ⛵️Another excellent episode, thank you 🙏
Thanks Richard, hope you and yours had a great Christmas Day and here’s looking forward to 2024 😊⛵️🎅🏼🎉🎊
Thank you for another great episode. Looking forward to seeing what boat you buy next. Merry Christmas both of you. James
Thank you and a merry Christmas to you and yours 🎅🏼🎊🎉 We’ve actually taken the Bear off the market for now, taken a step back from the brink. She’s a great boat and we’ll not be able to match her quality and equipment. We may one day “retire” to a motorboat but for now the Bear gets a reprieve. Will be heading back to the U.K. for adventures closer to home in the spring 😊⛵️
Happy New Year! Wishing you good sailing in 2024.
Thank you Bob, and the same to you 😍⛵️😊
Hey Guys, great video. Nice to see PORT-SAINT-LOUIS-DU-RHÔNE, thats where exited going through the canals on Milestone. We had our masts lifted in the Port Navy service, impressive place! Have a great new years!
Hi mate! Great to hear from you. Soooo jealous of your canal transit. We’d have liked to do it but our draught is too much. Must have been awesome coming out of the Rhone into Port St Louis and on to the Med….great times 😍⛵️
This was fantastic thank you .Greetings of the season to you !
Thank you Geoff, Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you and yours 🎅🏼🎊🎉
In respect of the wreck, I can’t believe someone hasn’t pitched up with saw and gained some scrap metal to sell.
I thought exactly the same Nigel, there’s some quality stainless steel rigging there as well as all the aluminium of the masts. Very surprised it’s all still there…
Sad to see the mast' in the sand, a dream gone bad. Not sure I would go for the trailer haul out. Enjoy your break and family time.
Hi Jim, yes very sad to see the dream buried in the sand. The trailer haul out they didn’t offer us a choice. It’s probably at least as safe as a travel hoist but just looks a bit wobbly! 😬😬 Fortunately all was well 😊😊
Merry Christmas Ian and Kate! Great video. Our new to us 37 foot Bavaria was hauled out using a trailer. It was scary but they seemed to do it all the time.
Thanks guys and merry Christmas and a happy new year to you 🎅🏼🎊🎉 we have seen trailer haul outs before but never on one of our boats. I was happy they knew what they were doing and it would be fine but it just looked pretty sketchy and that bang from the exploding bottle 😱😬😂 Probably at least as safe as a travel hoist to be honest just looked a bit wobbly! 😂 Thanks for the comment and have a fab festive season 😊😊
The buried boat was an unusual sight, what a shame to end up like that. xx
Very sad to see Norma…was once someone’s pride and joy….fascinating at the same time though….
