Thanks bro. How many times haven't we Ghanaians begged our brothers and sisters coming in, to do this just for their own benefits, it's so important for your comfort and happiness. The isolation should cease. U don't need to be completely fluent, just enough to make u a bit more relaxed, it can help u not to get price gouged, and make u new friends who are jumping up and down that u respect them enough to learn their language. Diasporans don't understand or realize this fact, even tho English is the colonizers language we got, just like Ivory coast, Togo, Senegal got the French, so that's what they opened our schools with, the books came to us in English too, so if one never had formal education or have limited education, then they don't speak English or not well at all,,,that means, when u go to the market where the gouging is mostly, or doing business with artisans etc, those are the people, our grandmas and Grandpa's, villagers etc., are the population u encounter,,now u are fair game, which by the way, is not just in Ghana, but any other country around the world where u dont speak the language! From the taxi driver to anyone who's giving u service would take advantage of u! The moment they see u have made an effort to learn a couple of words, watch their excitement and sometimes see them give u the service for free! If u have taken this monumental trouble to give up the comfort u have known your whole life, and decided to move to live in a completely different CULTURE, the least u can do is socialize yourself with the people and the place. This "sacrifice" u have made shouldn't be some sort of entitlement, but a beautiful privilege to learn another way of life that someone chose to deprive u off, by throwing u a few breadcrumbs for generations, to make u feel so grateful to make u feel like they gave u a whole loaf!! 😢 😢. Thanks bro for addressing this huge elephant on these African streets. I don't know how I would feel, living in East Africa and not know a word of Swahili and thinking I could be happy there or living in France and not knowing a word of French and not feel like I don't belong.
