Spark the Electric Jester 3: One Year Later
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 сер 2023
- It's been exactly 1 year since the release of Spark the Electric Jester 3. Since then, the game has garnered almost universal praise and acclaimed, with it being hailed as one of the best 3-D platformers every made. Up there, with Sonic Adventure 2 and A Hat in Time. But what exactly has been the legacy of such a phenomenal game. In this short video I will go on a sort of retrospective and talk about how the game has been doing, my personal journey with the spark series as a whole, as well as the usual praise for Lake Fepard, such a brilliant game designer. So I hope you enjoy it as I talk about Spark the Electric Jester 1 year later.

Had Spark 3 not come out my life would be much bleaker, the story (although a bit of just exposition at end) helped me getting through some rough stuff. This is truly one of the greatest pieces of media, let alone video games, ever created
Not even close
I've only gotten into spark in the last few months and I can say that I LOVED all of the games (I spark 2 did feel a bit short compared to the other two games though) and the story of 3 is a freaking roller coaster
I appreciate that you actually judged the game mostly on it's own. So many people will just use indie games like these to be openly hateful towards Sonic Team, saying they should all be fired.
Sonic team does suck, they make games for autistic adults and brain dead children.
I don’t have the means to play any of the Spark games, but I concur that it’s been really cool to see how this series grew. Your passion for these games could be felt all throughout the video.
dont have a pc or dont have the money for the games?
@@riggims I do not have a PC
One of my favorite games ever. Maybe my favorite 3D Platformer. Maybe even my favorite indie game. Its become my comfort food of gaming. Feels weird that despite the praise it still feels relatively unkown compared to stuff like Celest or Vampire Survivors.
OH MY GOSH i've never heard of spark and you show the games' qualities so greatly i wanna buy all of them right now! seriously i'm mad i am a fan of 3d sonic like generations and unleashed day stages and never had a a blast since then, spark 3 really seems to be my dream high speed 3d platformer, thank you so much for making me discover that!!
Thanks for the words of praise, and subscribe if you like me analyzing games in this kind of depth. I greatly appreciate it.
Really hope this game gets much more attention. Deserves to have a massive indie cult following like a hat in time.
It has definitely grown significantly since it came out.
agreed. I'm actually almost done making a video about Extreme Formula because I was so incredibly impressed with the demo alone.
I hope spark 4 is as good as spark 3, however I am worried about some of the things lake said about the game.
What did he say?
@@Plexi.T Lake said that spark 4 is going to be open world and only have 1 character which worries me because an open world game is a lot for an inde developer and it’s possible Spark won’t be the protagonist.
@@J1210mk2did he confirm it?? He said that he liked the idea of an open world, but from what I've heard he also said it's probably impossible for him to pull that off.
@@nuggets283 You’re right but he did say that there will most likely be one character which has been implied to be Fark, however there is a possibility where none of this is happens and I’m just worrying over nothing.
@@J1210mk2 He also said that he wants 1:1 Earth's Moon with lots of procedural generation. I think it might be a kind of game I might enjoy, after all, I enjoyed Sonic Frontiers and it feels randomly generated as well.
That Spark 2 diss hit me personally 💔💔
I still love that game, regardless of how good Spark 3 is. (Never played Spark 1. Does it hold up?)
Best 2d platformer ever 😶
The first installment is amazing fun, even if for different reasons, and the soundtrack is IMO the best out of the entire franchise. It is, however, a buggy mess so be warned
A year later and I still didn't get the game yet.
2:38 it's not just my most favorite 2D platformer, it's my most favorite videogame of all time
DANG, I'm glad you love it that much, but I'm afraid my heart still belongs to Persona 5. Spark 1 is still top 5 though definitely.
I don’t know why, but I wish there was a roll move in the game
Huh. When I played Spark 1, i thought the control was great but didn't think much of the level design. Can't remember mych of the OST aside from what was sequeled either. Spark 2 had the vocal tracks which were my favourite in the series, and didn't mind the controls, but yeah 3 just porting the stages forward to a better control, very nice. I think the second half of 2's stages are the best in the series, while i prefer 3's first half.
Unfortunately due to Unity’s scummy new policy (I’m sure you’ve already heard about it), lakefeperd announced recently that he’ll be delisting both spark 2 and 3 from steam on January 1st unless they change their policy. Really sad that a game as good as spark 3 could potentially become lost media but I am completely behind LakeFeperd’s decision here because what unity is doing could potentially bankrupt him.
Yeah I did. I sure do love CEOs that only Care about money 😃
mentioning S B&ATS soundtrack, i wish Lake would incorporate ALLLLL those AMAZING songs into Spark, i need to hear the Breakfast Time boss theme somewhere again 😂
I think in a live stream he said he sadly can't do that because it was used in a Sonic fangame, thus it would cause copyright problems 😔
@@Plexi.T dang it, sega 😭
Honestly, I didn’t enjoy Spark 3 as much as others did.
I can see why people like it, but I feel it suffers from a similar issue that a few of the official 3D Sonic Games do. And that’s having something else, along side the platforming that may or may not be as polished or fun. In Spark 3s case, it’s the combat.
The high speed platforming is solid, but the moments where you have to play it like a character action game, feel really unpolished and on par with Sonic Frontiers combat. It feels more like a gimmick to pad out the game. Yes I did buy more moves, but it still didn’t feel good compared to the high speed platforming, which is what I came for.
If you ask me which Spark game did combat the best, I’d say Spark 1 thanks to the limitations of 2D platforming, since you can’t just run past enemies like you could Spark 2, and it felt integrated into the gameplay.
I hope Rollin Rascal doesn’t do anything similar.
Game? 0:54
CrossCode. Phenomenal game
@@Plexi.T Thank you!
Who made spark 3 was it a person who used to do sonic romhacks by any chance haha
I found Sonic Frontiers to be a massive disappointment. But I was luckily able to discover the Spark TEJ series and Freedom Planet 2 was released. So my Sonic itch was perfectly scratched and Spark has quickly become one of my favorite franchises. And Spark 3 is the magnum opus of this franchise. Maybe Spark will make a guest appearance in XF. That'd be cool.
Still worth more than Frontiers in my eyes.
Always have,always will.
it wont beat sonic unleashed but it will beat generations
Huuuuuh, Sonic generations CLEARS Unleeahed easily
@@Plexi.T but unleashed had the challenge generations is too easy and s ranks are rewarding
@@Plexi.T plus chun-nan is a masterpiece
A weird thing I have with this game is that I find it difficult to play for long stretches at a time. Not because the game is boring or gets old, but because it feels very mentally taxing but not in the way you think. So much is going on in each level that’s it’s a huge dopamine rush and I adore it in the moment. But the rush can also feel a bit overwhelming and I normally get an urge to chill for a bit afterward. It’s like sensory overload. Absolutely love this game and can recognise its objective excellence as I’ve said before in my other comments. Just curious if anyone else sorta felt that way. Again it’s more of a me thing than a problem with the game.
Funnily enough, I feel this way too. I think it has to do with the fast paced nature and over stimulating sensory overload the game put upon you. It could also be because I'm unhealthy and don't get enough exercise, so my mind is weaker than usual lol 😅
@@Plexi.T nah I don’t think exercise affects your mental health THAT much so don’t worry lol. But yeah, over stimulating is definitely a fitting word.
I don’t know why, but I wish there was a roll move in the game
