I love this song so much and it’s the first song I heard from Mamamoo. This song represent well Mamamoo, the queens of vocals and swag. It’s like an anthem. Their live performance of HIP at MAMA 2019 is iconic and you must watch it. They are all very talented and funny. I love the 4 but I think I have a slight preference for Moonbyul. Great comments. Tho you made a good point about women being many different things simultaneously that's not what was going on in the MV with Hwasa as the mom and the president. Each member portrayed herself in Mamamoo (the 1st Universe) and different lives in 3 alternate universes. Each of the women in the alternate universes was unusual in one way or another - even Hwasa as a mom had a very unique sense of housecleaning fashion - the point of course being that they all deserve respect for doing their own thing rather than criticism for being out of the norm. They borrowed the concept for the dance set with all the slogans on the walls from American conceptual artist Barbara Kruger, whose work deals with the social construction and perception of gender and identity. Before Hip and the reality in BLACK album came out they uploaded 12 teasers to introduce the characters they play in the Hip MV and the songs on the album. You can find the teasers on MMM's yt channel. One of the extra levels of meaning in their role play that comes across in the teasers is that regardless of which alternate life they lead the four of them are always fated to meet. MMM believes they were destined to be best friends even if they weren't singers or in a group together and there are several songs on the album expressing that belief - Destiny, Universe and 4X4ever. Solar became my bias because she's the one who makes me cry when they do ballads, which was an enormous surprise because my first impression was that she was a ditzy airhead with pipes, a "yeba" (pretty fool) as Moonbyul dubbed her. Which is partly true but I quickly learned she's a whole lot more than that. Seems appropriate for a Hip reaction that Solar flipped the script on my superficial judgement and earned my respect and admiration as a person as well as a talented singer.
My bias no doubt the backbone of the group. Her vocal keeps it all together. Show your LOVE for WHEEIN!!!!
