Mamamoo is THAT group. These are 4 role models, comedians, artists, and importantly sisters. They know how to have fun, they know not to take themselves seriously (truly they are total weirdos), they are humble despite being queens BUT they know their strengths. And high key, they are real--i love what you said about feminism not meaning having no emotions/vulnerability or hating men per se. They are real about their feelings, struggles, and confidence!! I cannot wait for your mamamoo journey!! Also I would 100000% want to hang out with them. They get drunk. They have fun. They are goofy.

A note on Moonbyul since you gravitated towards her, she started rapping in a higher register to match the expectation of her contemporaries. Overtime she was allowed to grow and do things her own way and create her own unique style that’s made her one of the most respected artists today, and she’s the most credited female writer in K-pop for writing her own lyrics. Mamamoo is arguably the most diverse group, due to they have songs about empowerment, love, friendship but also literally a song about making fried rice. Enjoy the journey!

There are so many awesome songs to recommend. For pure vocal flex Immortal Song Medley, which is a concert clip is amazing. My favorite song is probably Destiny, watch the queendom performance. Going back in time Woo Hoo is an awesome fun song. Um Oh Ah Yeah where they go butch is another flavor.
Mamamoo are incredible. Not only do they have amazing vocals and fantastic stage presence, they have always had that mature sound and are so inclusive - they almost always use gender-neutral language in their songs
I agree that the dance and being over the top with the show sometimes overshadows the vocals and the song itself and in my opinion it creates a temporary impressive moment but doesn't quite stick in my mind later.. That is why I love Mamamoo and Exo cause their vocals and their overall uniqueness makes you remember them and still be impressed after a long time..
Their whole discography is insane. Like you said, whatever mood you are in they got a song for that. Their vocals and harmony are amazing. They also are successful soloists and have their own solo catalogues which are also amazing so i hope you check them out in the future. I feel like the holy trinity of mamamoo videos are 1. dingo killing voice(this video), 2. Immortal songs medley, and 3. Purple hawke's introduction guide(which is a little outdated but still one of the best). If you ever react to them again i suggest those other 2 videos. I can totally relate to your kpop journey. When I first checked out kpop in 2016 the first MVs I watched seemed to indicate it was just bubblegum pop girl groups and pretty boys with makeup and colored hair doing wannabe hip hop while dancing in unison. They all had talent but it seemed like kpop also stood for kiddie pop and being an old fart I was just the wrong demographic to appreciate it. Then I had my mind blown when I stumbled across Mamamoo, fell headlong into the kpop rabbit hole as I discovered more Korean artists I liked, and eventually learned to open my eyes and ears to some of the groups I had initially dismissed like BTS (an example of how clueless and biased I was going in). Still not a fan of most of the trendy pop songs for teens but there's so much more to Korean music and so many talented artists to explore. Unfortunately your chances of hanging out with MMM are even lower than you might think. Despite being around since 2014 Mamamoo has never toured outside of Asia so other than a few festival appearances there have been few opportunities for non-Asian i-fans to see MMM live. Which sucks because, as any moomoo (Mamamoo fan) will tell you, as great as their recordings are, Mamamoo live is on another level because of their amazing, world-class vocals, riveting stage presence & charisma, and bff team chemistry. They know how to put on a show, they captivate every audience they appear before, and their last pre-pandemic concerts in Korea & East Asia in 2019 were over 4 hours long. Seeing MMM do a few songs at a festival would be nice but my dream is to see a full MMM concert someday. Another sampler medley that will give you an idea of just how good they've always been live is the Immortal Songs Medley, filmed at a MMM concert in 2017. It's an 11 minute tour de force consisting of some of the covers they performed on the singing competition tv show Immortal Songs 2. Their 14 performances on that show over the years are must-see spectacular vocal showcases but don't react to them or you'll get blocked unless you filter the videos. The Immortal Songs Medley is safe for reactions because the vid was uploaded by a moomoo. Considering you said you didn't know them very well you gave a great intro and were spot on in your comments about the group and the members. If you want to learn more about them I'd recommend the two-part guide videos by Purple Hawke or Moo YT. Purple Hawke's are the gold standard but Moo YT's are also very good and they're newer and more up to date. Btw, the Whitney Houston comment was also spot on. Solar covered Whitney's I Will Always Love You as her audition piece for RBW and you can find a vid of her performing it on a tv show called Sketchbook (don't react to it or you'll get blocked). Interesting journey. The only K-Pop I knew was Psy's Gangnam Style until 2018. Then I heard a really great song in the background of a random UA-cam video, and fortunately for me, someone had already asked and someone else had answered who and what the song was. It was Girl's Day's Female President. I found it, saved it, and figured that was it, until I heard a second good Korean song a month later, which was Tren-D's Candy Boy. So then I went on a quest to find more Korean girl group songs that I might like. The first Mamamoo song I heard was Starry Night, which I wasn't crazy about, but the girls were so obviously insanely talented that I just started going through their discography hoping to find one song I might like, and found lots and lots. Decalcomanie is now my second favorite K-Pop song after Female President, and even Starry Night has grown on me.
@@anonygent The repetitive guitar riff in Starry Night is too generic for my taste so I kinda prefer the orchestrated version on I Say Mamamoo: The Best but as with just about all MMM songs the vocals and vocal arrangement are unlike anything and anyone else, tho they make it sound easy and much more normal than it really is. I love jazz and the first MMM song I heard was Piano Man so I became intrigued just when I was about to give up on kpop. In the Piano Man comments moomoos were saying MMM live on Immortal Songs was even better so I watched Delilah, had my mind blown, and binge watched the rest of their IS performances and MVs up til then (2016). That's really what convinced me to listen to more Korean music. As I found other artists I liked I gradually realized kpop was something completely new and different, an interdisciplinary art form of music, dance and video by multi-talented teams of artists & performers who treated sounds, styles and concepts from all eras and genres world-wide as fair game for reinterpretation, recombination and experimentation. Female President's empowering mix of rock & pop and sexy & girl crush is a good example.

It's a bit funny that you said Solar is the girl you choose to do Whitney Houston songs. She auditioned over 40 times (because of her age) before she was hired. The one she passed with is "I will always love you". There is a pre-debut video of her singing it. It's truly amazing.

In the Piano Man comments moomoos were saying MMM live on Immortal Songs was even better so I watched Delilah, had my mind blown, and binge watched the rest of their IS performances and MVs up til then (2016). That's really what convinced me to listen to more Korean music. As I found other artists I liked I gradually realized kpop was something completely new and different, an interdisciplinary art form of music, dance and video by multi-talented teams of artists & performers who treated sounds, styles and concepts from all eras and genres world-wide as fair game for reinterpretation, recombination and experimentation. Female President's empowering mix of rock & pop and sexy & girl crush is a good example.
@@kudgeond755 What's funny/ironic is that I like Piano Man, too, but don't like jazz at all. 😏 I DO like swing music, though, big band music from the 1930s and 40s, so maybe that's the connection.
@@anonygent Imho it's more accurate to say you only like swing era jazz. Jazz includes many styles & eras and various solo or group formats ... kinda like kpop. I'm probably just as picky about the kpop I like as you are about jazz. :)

It's a bit funny that you said Solar is the girl you choose to do Whitney Houston songs. She auditioned over 40 times (because of her age) before she was hired. The one she passed with is "I will always love you". There is a pre-debut video of her singing it. It's truly amazing.
