Unai Emery's Aston Villa Look Like The Real Deal
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- Today's video focusses on Action Villa and the astounding run of form they've had from November 2022 onwards under the guidance of former PSG and Arsenal boss Unai Emery.
A great deal of the topics covered in this video will not be news to any Villa fan but I do often find that the perception of the Midlands club from those of a neutral persuasion can often undervalue just how serious the club's owners Nassef Sawiris and fellow billionaire Wes Edens are about ensuring that Aston Villa act as a long-term disruptor in the battle for European qualification in the Premier League.
The arrival of Unai Emery in the dugout has seemingly supercharged their plans and after qualifying for the UEFA Conference and spending heavily across the summer window to date; it feels as though their club are on extremely solid footing for the season ahead and the next few years to come.
Cheers,
Dan

They were outstanding yesterday against my lot (Burnley), best Premier League Villa team we've ever played by some distance. Incredibly dangerous on the break and could have scored 6 or 7. Top players all over the pitch, Emery is a World Class manager and Villa will finish top 6 no doubt at all. I'll add also that for other than the 20 mins when we scored at the beginning of the second half their fans never shut up, good bunch.
Hey good luck for the rest of the season. I love what Kompany has brought to Burnley and the way you guys press it wasnt easy to play against. I think you guys will do well this season 👍
Thanks @@_ZR11_ - we know it's going to be tough, it's about being better than 3 teams for us which hopefully we can be
@@flyoverfredusaI hope Burnley say up, honestly can see Everton, wolves and Luton being relegated this season
@@Tom_avfc05 don't forget Shef Utd
@@osmark86 they could do, watched them against city yesterday and they did put up a good fight so they have a chance of staying up, more than wolves who are a shambles run club currently
Villa aren't fashionable. Not a London club. Owners are minted, Emery is elite and Villa going places. Long may it continue.
UTFV
As a Villa fan not only am I used to seeing Villa not being spoken about as much as other teams but I expect and actually enjoy it.
All the talk can be about the other while we will just do what we are doing under Emery and our owners.
This is the best football I've seen from us since Big Ron was manager and the whole feel of the club is like when we had Ron Saunders in charge and we thought we could actually compete with the best sides.
Great content mate, enjoyed this.
If I'm honest I agree with you we are best off the radar and letting media say Hibs were rubbish Everton dire. Burnley not good. Tbh we are better now than under big Ron in a miles more competitive league. But top 6 is very possible and never forget Leicester, villa are very capable of a huge upset. BUT with our injuries I think 2 or 3 signings still needed tbh.
Don't you find it weird though, being a Villa fan (I myself a ST holder) and looking so good? It feels really strange watching them currently. When Emery first arrived, there was a sense of panic (from the fans) as we passed it around the back 4, and back to the keeper... I remember being nervous, thinking we were not good enough to play that way. These days, just a year on, watching them and having complete and utter confidence in the abilities of the players and the manager, and simply looking awesome.. takes some getting used to! I agree with the big Ron comment, Happy days!! Newcastle result aside (and for an extended part of that game we were the better team), I could not be happier with the way we are playing! Think we will give Liverpool a real go on Sunday!
@kevinwright3141 absolutely, I said the same thing to my wife that I don't panic anymore when we pass it around at the back. The way Emery has coached and given these players the confidence to play this way is remarkable and these were the same players that SG had that looked like they didn't want the ball.
Unai is a genius and I believe he will win us trophies given the backing and time.
We will give anyone a game these days.

One of the biggest things that cooled the perspective on Villa is the 5-1 loss to Newcastle, it Was like. “Oh, maybe they’re not that good after all”
12 goals 1 conceded since that game.
As a born Villan, I'm very impressed with how you got your point across. UTV, Sir!
Unai Emery is Villa's best signing in a long time.
Nice to see Villa doing well. I've got a lot of time for the club, which may be connected to the fact that I was at Villa Park for our 1990 FA Cup semi-final. I live in Poland, and there's a lot of interest here in the club because of Matty Cash. It was great to see him get a couple of goals on Sunday, and I did wonder whether he would emulate the great Danny Butterfield in completing his hat-trick!
I'm old enough to remember the 1977-1983 era when we built two brilliant teams that won the league cup, the league, the european cup and super cup, and were also dismissed by the media and neutrals. In the league-winning season all the attention was on Liverpool and Ipswich (under Bobby Robson) and we were given no chance of beating Bayern Munich in 1982. Being "under the radar" as a Villan is not anything new and quite honestly it's perfectly OK if the pundits and media want to continue to focus their minds on the so-called big clubs. For too long the premier league has been far too predictable - last season with Newcastle, Brighton, and Villa upsetting the apple cart was a breath of fresh air.
Yes we lost twice to Ipswich. But most points wins the league.I remember Jimmy Rimmer singing win the league half p--d on the team bus after losing at arsenal and ipswich losing at boro.
Villa being under the radar and dismissed is purely because they are a Birmingham team, there's a serious anti Birmingham bias in the UK. And if you know anything about the contemporary history of the UK you will know that it owes a huge debt of gratitude to Birmingham and the West Midlands
@@allovdemCompletely bang on. The amount of disrespect we get coming from Birmingham and The Black Country is unjustified. Luckily we're usually able to laugh it off but I've never understood why the bias exists.
@@joebees21 It stems back to the Industrial Revolution when Birmingham was the home of most of the new successful big industries. The engineering capabilities of our area were astounding. Birmingham and the Midlands area in general was so successful that London feared they might lose their place as the capital city. Ever since they have done their utmost to hold Birmingham and the Midlands back. They've hogged everything going (Olympics, National Stadium etc., etc.) to the detriment of all the other cities in England, but Birmingham in particular has been robbed of support of any kind from the south. The West Midlands is the largest Metropolitan area in the country but is massively underfunded by the government in London. It is, of course, deliberate.😡
@@cyberdonblue4413 Of course it is. The country would be a much better place if it wasn't run by people constantly from London and the South. The North and Midlands desperately needs funding in their place.
It’s refreshing to see a levelheaded football fan with realistic footballing opinions. Twitter is so crowded with toxic fans across the “big six” (seven if you want to go that far) who have some shambolic takes without even an ounce of knowledge on what they’re debating. Videos like this one really shine a light on what these clubs’ business models and tactics are all about! Top video, earned yourself a sub 👍🏽
Thankyou for highlighting a frustration for Aston villa supporters.. For decades Aston villa have been ignored when ever they do well covering the same teams Man u Arsenal, Liverpool etc even when these teams aren't playing well. I suppose that helps Villa fly under the radar less pressure. A lot of football fans don't know in the early decades of football they were the team every team looked up to. Villa had won the FA cup 5 times & the league 4 times I think before the Man u Liverpool had even won anything. West Ham & Burnley play in Claret & Blue because they admired Villa...
Apart from the Newcastle game where we were well in the game until we lost our leader Tyrone Mings to an ACL injury. It really affected the team especially losing Buendia with same injury two days before. We've have had some easier games since and that has helped to reorganise our defence now Mings is out for the season. Our big test is at Liverpool next week. We still have Jacob Ramsey and Alex Moreno to come back from injury, hopefully after the International break.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not expecting a CL push or anything but I firmly expect you to qualify for Europe again in May. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment.
@@HLTCOMEDIAI think k woth CL being 5th we have ab outside chance but yer 6th or 7th would suit me fine.
If it weren’t for the Mings injury, I think we would of won tbh
Beundia nullified Newcastle's main weapons in a preseason game.
His injury messed up our plans.
The Mings injury added to it.
Every team takes a hammering at least once a season glad we got it out the way early , right saying our mind set dropped with the injury and Newcastle fair play to them capitalised and every mistake we made .
Still silly season with results for the first few fixtures . Will get more shock results around Xmas and end of the season aswell .
Great vid - the Mings and Buendia injuries would've derailed our season in years gone by, but Emery hasn't let the injuries affect the squad too much, and that is a joy - as a Villa fan - to see
Great vid mate. Refreshing to hear someone else seeing what we (Villa fans) can all see. Going under the radar is what we prefer. We have gone from being linked with the likes of Dwight McNeil and Calvin Bassey, (no disrespect to them, great players) to signing Moussa Diaby and Pau Torres. Which is just another level. With fantastic owners, academy, massive fan base, rich history and expansion plans for the stadium, give us 2 more seasons and we will push top4. The sleeping giant is waking up. 😊 UTV! (Also have a soft spot for the Palace as I grew up in south east London near Selhurst Park). Nice one 👍🏽
So grateful for our owners, saved us when we were hours away from liquidation and have invested so much time, money and effort into our men's team, women's team and academy, loved this video
The best analysis of Aston Villa's potential I've seen - in fact you put many Villa fans to shame. Unai Emery is no mug for sure and even if Villa are average to poor because of injuries, suspensions etc I, as a Villan, would stick with UE - the best manager AV have had for a very long time. Great vid mate - very balanced and knowledgeable.
Fantastic insight Dan well done, good to hear some analysis into Villa from a third party. I think most Villa fans would take a top 8 finish this year and winning the UCL.
I really enjoyed this mate. Very thorough. I loved when the new owners came in. Pumped some cash into the academy and got the scouts looking for the best players England and Europe have at a teenage level. Added some real talent with potential. We always had a good academy but our best academy product being Jack grealish. Was sad to see him leave but the club at the time wasn’t in that position to offer him the chance of champions league football and serious medals. Proud to see him win all the things he has so far seeing as he left his boyhood club. We’re playing some amazing football at present. Us villa fans have weathered some really dismal years and have had to sit and watch other clubs succeed and have their moment. I’ve waited for us to have this feeling we have at the minute, it a proper buzz. Hopeful. Actually look forward to watching the games now. We’ve often gone overlooked. We’re often labelled a big club. It a great time for these clubs in the league taking it to the “top 6” Fulham, Brentford, Brighton all play some amazing football at times.
Great video. I'm a villa fan and I'm loving life at the minute. Emery is just a superb tactician and coach. Almost every player we had when he joined has improved. Gerard just wanted to use the war chest he was given to find people he thought was better and didn't focus on the people he already had. Exact reason why our CEO is no longer with us
Enjoyed this. As a Villa fan, and like most other Villa fans now know, Villa are in a great position to move onto the next level. Great owners, top Manager and coaching team, A really decent squad of players, all who are creating this evolution at Villa park. Long may it continue, watch this space. Great podcast btw..UTV
Great video, keep up the good work.
2nd in points behind City in 2023. Only plastics are overlooking Villa. The level of faith I have in Unai, Monchi and the ownership is new to me, but I'm thoroughly enjoying it. We have had some recent success, but the maddening thing to me is that Villa are only building the foundation for the future, this is only the beginning. Up The Villa
It's one of those projects which feels at odds with the vast amount of movers and shakers in the modern game because it's being kept under the radar rather than being plastered across news outlets but I'd imagine that's how you like it. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch the video and comment, it means the world to me.
@@HLTCOMEDIA that is absolutely how we like it and honestly I hope we continue to fall under the radar for a while longer. cheers for the great content!
Excellent job. Good points well made. Villa's financial backing is greater than some people think.
A lot of people questioned them after the 5-1 loss to Newcastle, but if you watched the game you know that really wasn't a 5-1 game...
Emery is brilliant, good to see Villa back as a big club.
It made sense to question us, we absolutely lost shape and looked shell-shocked for most of the game. I think a lot of that is down to 3 major things:
1) Newcastle being a good and physical team at home and looking to make a statement against us
2) Squad morale & leadership being low since Tyrone Mings (our captain) got a season-ending injury early in the game & Emi Buendia having a similar season ending injury just two days prior to the game
3) First game of the season syndrome
It was one helluva beating, but I honestly wasn't too worried about it. I also think that we weren't as bad in that game as the final score suggested tbh.
Watkins and Douglas missed 3 excellent chances between them. It could have been a lot different against NUFC if they went in. The story of life though.....'if'
As a Villa fan I have learned to be cautious about being optimistic, however Unai Emery is comfortably the best manager we have had in the Premier League era and we have started this season minus 4 nailed on starters in Mings Buendia, Moreno and Ramsey , and no Martinez against Burnley but still seem to have a plan for each game. A trophy is what the club needs which would be fantastic.
Good piece, Villa fan myself, and agree wholeheartedly, Villa fans see what's going on, but we still have the nay-sayers within the club also. Questioning why the owners are doing certain things or questioning why the tickets are being done a certain way. Can never just accept new ownership, and new level means having to improve the revenue streams to build towards a brighter future.... great to see someone else notice it and comment on the outside,
Very well said, Sir!
40 years ago, Ipswich Town were the media darlings. Every neutral's favourites (supposedly).
After Villa's 3-1 win at Everton (including Tony Morley's Goal of the season), Chris Lightbowne wrote an impassioned match report in the Sunday Times imploring people to give Ron Saunders' team the credit they deserved.
Plus ca change!
Great video - thank you for taking the time to talk about Villa, in some depth and with fairness and objectivity. There's a media black hole roughly where Birmingham is, so the lack of media acknowledgement is nothing new for Villa. I think it suits us currently but ultimately, the only way we change that is to start winning silverware. (pleasepleaseplease).
Fantastic assessment mate. As you say, us Villa fans know a lot of this, but its great to see someone who isn't have such a well informed piece such as this. I've subscribed to the channel 💜💙
Great video Dan. It's nice to have faith in the club from the owners down. Hopefully we can have another good season, I'd love to see a new bit of silverware at Villa Park.
I don’t see any reason why Villa can’t win it if West Ham can; I don’t think I’m being unfair on them when saying your squad is stronger man for man. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment. 🤝
I love your work, you should be on Sky Sports you have a great neutral view point and provide great insights. Nice job 👍
Oh and great video, really good to see a fan outside of villa doing proper research and giving a level headed opinion on us. Honestly better knowledge and more information than any professional media outlet like sky ever give
Spot on pal, great analysis and as a Villa fan I never get tired of hearing the positives about our upward trajectory. I do have to say I think we'll do better than ninth though. We should be gunning for Europa League one way or another at least.
Your non Palace content is always great. As a Villa fan been happy to stay under the radar though. Look forward to your further videos 👍🏻
Excellent content as always, Dan. Is t fair to suggest you've got somewhat of a soft spot for us? Maybe it's confirmation bias, but you've often talked pretty glowingly about the club in my time following you on twitter.
Keep up the fantastic work, glad to see you doing so well and UTV.
Great content Dan! Thank you! As a Villa fan it's refreshing to listen to a neutral giving an honest and detailed opinion of our club. We very much go 'under the radar' and sometimes don't get the credit when and where it's due; that's usually taken up by the media covering the so called 'big clubs'. Take the 19 touches before Cash's goals; if that was a Spurs or Man Utd goal, we wouldn't hear that last of it across most common media platforms.
The signings we've made over the past 12 months or so, with, one of the best managers/coaches in Europe and the backing of our ownersI feel we are destined for greater things. Let's hope we continue the momentum from last season and the beginning of this one. UTV.
Quality input as always Dan. You will never convince a minority core of our fans that we still are a work in progress but we certainly do appreciate that we have the most gifted manager in my lifetime (and I’m old) since Saunders and whilst we have work to do defensively especially we play some beautiful football. And it’s not just about buying players, he can transform existing ones too. Thank you for spending your time on this focus for our club. Much appreciated.
This is such a great view point from someone who isn't a villa fan! We know what we're doing and where we want to go... but for other fans to see it says a lot. Great video Dan 👍🏻 utv
Excellent content... Sometimes it's nice to do good work and go unnoticed... I hope our progression continues and no one takes Emery away from us...

Thanks so much; hopefully you’ll enjoy all of the different content on the channel going forward too.
Villa were class yesterday and the fact of the matter is I legit reckon they'll find themselves in the top 5 (5th gets champions league) this season.
Many thanks, as a Villa Fan, this really encapsulates our current situation
Decent listen Dan, good knowledge from a neutrals point of view. The only other important ingredient you didn't touch on was the appointment of Monchi, not just his reputation and standing worldwide, but his pre-existing relationship with Emery. Sevilla won 12 trophies during the Monchi era, prior to that they'd only won 4 in their long established history. Emery as most know has won more European cups than any other current manager. We've truly got elite personal making decisions at the club now and it's been the best time to be a Villa fan for years. In short - Great Owners, world class Manager and President of Football Operations, European football back after 13 years, a 30,000 strong waiting list for season tickets, stadium expansion next year, new inner city academy being constructed, bringing in CL level signings (Tielemans, Pau, Diaby, Zaniolo, Lenglet), making £155m from the sale of 4 academy players in 2 years, a re-branding taking place with the appointment of Chris Heck who did great work with the 76'ers etc etc... the only negatives so far are the season long injuries to Buendia and Mings. The futures bright, and long may we have other teams seriously threaten the beloved 'SKY 6.' The revolution will be televised!
Love your work excellent delivery and in depth knowledge

Follow you on Twitter but I've not checked out your UA-cam yet, figured now was the time if you're talking about Villa. Anyway, got exctly what I expected, a well spoken and measured take which is pretty rare on football media!
Great video! Only question mark for Villa in the short term is over the squad depth in certain areas. If we suffer an injury to Watkins then we only have one back-up striker in the young Duran. Similarly we rely on Martinex in goal
Well done, like many villa fans i couldn't agree with you more, we're going about or business albeit under the radar extremely well.. it'll take time for other fans to realise that villa are no joke now as unfortunately we have been for so long.. thankyou for a great video regarding our great club.

Brilliant video, Dan. To be able to speak so eloquently and with great knowledge for that amount of time says much about your love for football. Good man 👍
One thing you didnt mention.Monchi . He has been there seen it done it as a director of football. He will be able to wheel and deal Villa to an even higher place in terms of recruitment Our lack of turnover compared to the biggest clubs needs to be combatted with clever buys and clever sells. He has already sold £40 mill of academy talent this summer to let us buy these huge players like Moussa Diaby . Him and Emery working together closely is going to give huge upside .

We love being under the radar it makes it that much sweeter come the end of the season just like when we won the league in the 80s the talks were all Ispwich and Liverpool not us and when we lost to Ispwich late on in the season they thought we were down and out but not Big Ron Saunders. I do think we will be challenging for Champions League places this season and as he put it so eloquently in 1981 after said Ispwich game "Do you want to bet against us?"
Thank you for a great video. Its good to hear that there is some awareness outside of VP. The investment in squad depth, training facilities and the ground its self give us a great platform for the next 5+ years hopefully.

Great video my friend. We’ve had decent managers and a lot of horrific ones, so to have a proper world class manager is something we’re all getting used to, and love of course! The guy never stops, always working on the next opponents. I remember coming to Palace last year under Gerrard who told us how prepared we were for you - the next 90 minutes was an utter spanking where the actual 3-1 result flattered us. This guy is the real deal. All the best for the season!

Weve been going under the radar nicely for a while, that will probably change now because unai is the real deal and was the last cog in the machine, we already had a decent premier league squad that needed top level coaching and a couple of top quality additions. I have a feeling we will do something special this season whether that be a cup or a high league position. Since unai came in we're 2nd in the form table and thats around 10 months now so a good sample size, UTV
