That is so terrible. I am so sorry this has happened to you.
One thing I greatly suggest for any work is asking people you know for recommendations. Reviews can be lied about and when it’s word of mouth, the contractor will know that if they mess up the news will spread.
If this isn’t possible, always get the total cost up front after they have assessed the situation. Stay in the area with them.
I really hope that future projects go way better. I’d be a mess in your shoes :(

Had a gardening company come to lay a patio, pour a concrete dog run and sink a trampoline into the ground. The patio wasn't the stones I wanted, they didn't do the dog run how I asked and they didn't dig the trampoline down deep enough. Couldn't get hold of them to come back and fix it so they forfeited the last installment of the payment. Just so hard to get anyone to do anything these days. Small jobs don't exist, they will only come out if the job costs 1000+ and when they see I'm a woman on my own they take the absolute piss. Would love to see men's sheds starting a mini business to do all these small jobs.

Regarding the barrel for the locks of your door. The over 300€ would have been for his time and labour aswell. That's why he stayed so long.😂
That did dawn on me! A hundred euro per hour. If I'd damn well known that I wouldn't have chatted with him/made him tea, etc!!
@@Lauras_Views To be fair, he should have mentioned the overall price including labour etc. I hate it when people don't specify that.
I had a landscape gardener who turned out to be shady as fuck. Do a job that looked good to the untrained eye. A few weeks later all the paving started to crack and lift. 3k worse off and a horrible garden
