To Make Instant Pot Rice;
Rinse rice very well in a mesh strainer and add to the inner pot of the Instant Pot.
Use a 1:1 ratio (1 cup water to 1 cup rice or 2 cups water to 2 cups rice).
Place lid on Instant Pot and be sure vent knob is pointed towards sealed.

3 minutes for white rice

Thanks for your great cooking tips with the instant pot. My white rice came out perfect and cleanup was a snap! No more burned or sticky rice from using a stovetop.

You are so welcome!
Ur the best!
Great rice, came out perfect😊❤❤
Wonderful
I had been making mushy white rice and using the 12 minute rice button feature. Looks like I need to cook for only 3 minutes. Thanks!
That will make a huge difference!
I have a fabulous rice cooker made by nutribullet. But this is cool.🙂
I’ve always only used an actual rice cooker (we eat a lot of rice lol), I screwed it up in the instant pot so many times lol. Thanks to you I finally got it right! Lol thanks 😅
I am SO glad this recipe helped you nail it!
Me too
Love your videos! Great info. My question - if I'm cooking a rice blend (brown, red, etc,) or wild rice, what would you recommend?
I would cook for 22 minutes on high pressure. Enjoy!
Subscribed cause my boiled eggs turned out great :) I have the chef IQ 6 quart
Awesome! Thank you!
I had left over grilled chicken kabobs… bell pepper, onion, squash, zucchini…so I made brown rice in the instant pot… chopped up the veggies and chicken and mixed with rice..and a dash of worstershire……Grilled chicken kabob rice bowl!!!!!! Yum yum
That sound like my kind of meal!
Thank you for the video. Can you pressure cook rice with meat on a rack? The little rack comes with the pressure cooker. I pressure cooked salmon on top of my rice.
As long as the cooking time is the same as the rice, absolutely! You don't want a large discrepancy in timing or the meat will be over/undercooked. I often cook rice in pot in pot over dishes like Mongolian Beef or Sweet and Sour Chicken. Would you change the time for long grain jasmine rice?
Yes, long-grain jasmine rice would be 3 minutes on high pressure.
Thanks! I had the same question. :-) Trying it tonight!
Mine is awful and I'm following your exact instructions. I have the instapot ultra and the rice ALWAYS comes out sticky and yes I rinse it 3 or 4 times until the water is not cloudy. I end up using it in wraps and fried rice because I can't eat it on its own.
I am so sorry you are having issues Sarah. Try adding 2 tablespoons of additional water for each cup of rice. And be sure to allow a full natural pressure release.
Hi Kristen! But how much time I need to wait for natural release afterwards? Thank you in advance!
At least 15 minutes :)
@@AMindFullMom Thanks a lot! Subscribed and liked!
Thanks for this video! What if you're cooking your rice with other things at the same time, say, jambalaya, with a can of diced tomatoes with their juice and added chicken broth? How do you determine how much liquid to use so the rice doesn't come out mushy?
I recommend a 1:1 ratio of dried rice to liquid. So I would drain off the juice from tomatoes measure how much liquid that is and then add chicken broth to make up the needed liquid.
@@AMindFullMom I'll give that a try next time, thanks.
Question! What should the temperature be at for white rice? Less, normal, or high.
High :)
So for white basmati rice (long grain), how long do I cook it for?
3 minutes on high pressure.
Hi, just found your channel while searching for why my rice is mushy! How would you handle the mushy rice issue if it’s part of an entire recipe, like the jambalaya I make in the instant pot? Thanks so much.
OMG, was looking through your other videos and found your jambalaya recipe! Going to use your recipe next time for sure! I haven’t been rinsing my rice so that’s something I learned. Very happy to have found your channel since I love using my instant pot. Thanks for sharing all of your recipes! 😍
Awesome! I was just going to share that recipe with you!
My Costco bag of brown rice says it cooks in 20 min, so instant pot takes 24 and then 10 min natural release! So over 24… giving it a try to see which comes out better!
Hey there! 22 minutes for long-grain and 24 minutes for short-grain brown rice. Let me know your results!
This is a great video, thank you! How do you know when the pressure has released naturally though?
Thanks! When the silver float valve has floated down on the DUO models or the lid unlocks. I have a video walking you through that you may find helpful: ua-cam.com/video/qwnhnrZ4r6o/v-deo.html
What about sprouted blonde rice? Any thoughts there?
That is a new variety to me! But after research, it looks like it is a similar cooking time as brown rice--so this recipe would be a great place to start. Sorry I can't be more help.
What about minute rice instant white rice settings? Thank you
I have personally not used minute rice, but here are the instructions from Minute Rice themselves: Use equal amounts of rice and liquid. Stir. Use the “Manual” setting with High Pressure. Set timer for 1 minute. When cooking time has elapsed use the “Quick Release” to vent all the steam. Remove lid and fluff rice. Serve.
Please tell me why you suggest the same 1 to 1 rice to water ratio for white rice and for brown? The only other method I've seen uses 1 to 1.25 cups of rice to water ratio for brown rice.
Hi Denise. I have found that the Instant Pot seals in the moisture perfectly. Whenever I increase the liquid the rice turns out mushy. I test my recipes extensively in several models before sharing.
I have never had issues with cooking my brown rice on the stove top. Always turns out well. But, I will give this a try.
Well, I hope you find sucess with this method as well Jannie!
easier insta pot set it and forget it
What about seasoned rices like Uncle Bens and Zattarans?
Here are some of my favorite flavored rice recipes: ua-cam.com/video/KVt8hkEAfhc/v-deo.html
In the description, "Use 1:1 ratio (1 cup water to 1 cup rice or 1 cups water to 2 cups rice)." Is this a typo, right? It should be 2 cups water to 2 cups rice? I'm not trying to be pedantic; I'm truly terrible at making rice in the instant pot and wonder if I should be using 1 less cup of water. Thanks!
Oh goodness YES!! It is 1 cup water to 1 cup rice or 2 cups water to 2 cups rice---fixing now!
What about basmati long grain white rice?
I would cook it for 3 minutes on high pressure as well.
So is it 3 minutes no matter if it's 1 cup or 3 cups of rice? I've been using the rice timer for that 10/5 minutes rice boxes and it comes out kinda sticky.
Hi Heather! Always use manual or pressure cooker (Rice button is not accurate) And it will be 3 minutes for white rice no matter how much rice you cook.
What's the cook time for white Jasmine rice
3 Minutes on high pressure :)
@@AMindFullMom Thank you...do you have an instant pit cheesecake recipe?
@@barbra429 Yes :) amindfullmom.com/instant-pot-cheesecake/
did i miss something how long to rest white rice
Same--natural pressure release :) Enjoy!
👌🏻🌹🌟🙏🏻🎯
So white rice on high pressure cooker for 3 minutes and then release and wait 15 minutes? Seems so fast, I’ll give it a try
It is insane how fast--and delicious!
Why not use the rice function, I’m just curious?
It is actually not using high pressure and is for white rice, not brown rice. It is always better to adjust the temp yourself.
@@AMindFullMom Gotcha thanks. I was just curious what the difference was
@@JusTryNc absolutely happy to answer questions any time!
So, the rice cooker button is irrelevant?
Yes, IMHO, only the manual, saute, and yogurt setting are worth using. Slow Cooker Function works--but not as well.
Why didn’t you touch the rice button instead?
I recommend never using the pre-set buttons. For rice, it is actually not typically high pressure and the machine doesn't know what type of rice you are cooking. Using manual or pressure cook and controlling yourself is always better.
