My very favourite Crowded House song. I especially love the lyrics 'From the cradle to the grave, from the place to the gutter, underneath the dying rays of the sun and the fingers of love'. Perfection!
Why is this song not listed among the greatest songs of all time? It's just so, so deep and timeless as if it was written yesterday. The audience, the opera house, the 12-string solo, the spot on performance by all band members.. All my life I dreamed of writing a beautiful song and playing it in front of thousands of people. If only I could be Neil standing up there my life would be complete.
Paul’s drumming and Mark Hart’s guitar last half of the song is AMAZING! Farewell to the world Locked Out version’s end is another spectacular Mark and Paul moment. Paul so incredibly missed❤️
CH was my 1st ever concert back in 93 @ Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. What a pleasure and am glad it was them that broke my 🍒 😅 in a musical sense. RIP paul 🥃🏴
Don't Dream It's Over has been on my playlist for 30 years, but THIS song and performance...I think I've already listened to it 100 times since coming across it a few days ago.
Fingers of Love, When You Come, Whispers and Moans are three tracks that I'll usually skip on their respective albums, because Farewell to the World holds the definitive versions of those songs. Their live incarnations are just lightyears better in every way.
This song means so much to me. I remember listening to it with my mother when I was younger. Feels like a life time ago but at the same time, like it was only yesterday. I hate growing up 💔
Neil Finn was put on this earth to give us these precious moments of music that stays with you forever! The man is a pure genious plain and simple and it's a privilage to take part of his creations!
Great song! Mark Hart's guitar work is stellar, mixed with Paul Hester's exquisite and timely drum work makes this song a masterpiece. Thanks for the clearest version of this on the web.
I went from Metallica to Nirvana then Britpop via The Cranberries. Along the way I stumbled upon the Together Alone album which sat little played on a shelf for a while, though I had he😅ard something within which made me instinctually purchase the CD.. It took some years and perhaps some maturing of my tastes to really penetrate but when it did it was like finding a home. This is probably my favourite track from my favourite album of the 90s.
Epic version (found again after losing a VHS I had of the gig). Truly is awesome! Fond memories of playing this over and over again doing the mandatory air guitar....
Well you know what, apparently it's been 4 years and I will happily comment on my own comment. This song is epic and the fact that this video has only been seen 50K times is a travesty.
I totally agree. If it was some doped out Jimmy waving his arms about with his trousers halfway down his backside, that would be getting half a billion views. Makes you wanna weep 😓
they still are!! saw them in August 2010, and even without Paul and with Matt Sherrod, they were amazing! even my hubby, who isn't a big fan (and who bought the tickets and got me to Austin to see them) loved them live! if that wasn't amazing enough, they all came out to greet fans and give autographs/take pictures. Such nice guys, all of them!!
Neil finn is a fine songwriter "an insect to delicate to catch" . Very good performance of a very good song. Crowded House are definitely Australia's best export.
@@richardbradley7854 Well nobody knew the real story until they did an interview here recently. Neil said that he did not like the musical direction that Mark wanted to go in, said he just wasn't "feeling it", that basically (without actually saying it) his ideas were no good and that line-up of Crowded House would have never worked for making future albums. That doesn't make him firing Mark and Matt to replace them with his sons any less crappy of a move.
Can you imagine that An itch too sensitive to scratch A light that falls through the cracks An insect too delicate to catch? I hear the endless murmur Every blade of grass that shivers in the breeze And the sound, it comes to carry me Across the land and over the sea And I can't look up Fingers of love move down And I can't look back Fingers of love move down Color is it's own reward Color is it's own reward The chiming of a perfect chord Let's go jumping overboard Into waves of joy and clarity Your hands come out to rescue me And I'm playing in the shallow water Laughing while the mad dog sleeps And I can't look up Fingers of love move down And I won't be helped Fingers of love move everywhere And there is time yet To fall by the way From the cradle to the grave From the palace to the gutter Beneath the dying rays of the sun Lie the fingers of love Into waves of joy and clarity A fallen angel walked on the sea And I'm playing in the shallow water Laughing while the mad dog sleeps And I can't look up Fingers of love move down And I won't be helped Fingers of love move everywhere And there is time yet For you to find me And all at once Fingers of love move down
I have listened to Them since they replaced Mark Hart . I don't know how they could just replace him. He wasn't just a player. So CH doesn't exist as a band for me anymore.
Personally I think Crowded House should've let it go after this... Getting back together without Paul the music has sucked since... and firing Mark... well he made Together Alone to what it was...
Astonishing performance. Marks solo is spine tingling at the end
My very favourite Crowded House song. I especially love the lyrics 'From the cradle to the grave, from the place to the gutter, underneath the dying rays of the sun and the fingers of love'. Perfection!
Simply stunning. Neil Finn is an absolute elite level songwriter and that band was ridiculous.

Michelle C. because real CH fans are educated and unfortunately the majority of humans are not. very sad but true.
So true! And if I see another FEAT on a song title I think I'll scream.! :)
How do you know it isn't?
Beautifully stated!!!
My favourite performance of my favourite song from my favourite artist ever. Every chord, every note, every word of this amazing 2:18 lyric. Sublime.❤
That little smile from Neil right at the end tells it all - just perfection from himself and the whole band.
'This was their finest moment."
Paul’s drumming and Mark Hart’s guitar last half of the song is AMAZING! Farewell to the world Locked Out version’s end is another spectacular Mark and Paul moment. Paul so incredibly missed❤️
'Distant Sun' ending is amazing aswell...
Mark shouldn't have been fired! This is the perfect example why he should of been kept in the band!
@@louisevans8838 Saw them last year with Liam Finn in place of Mark. Not the same.
Marks guitar and Pauls drumming at the end...just doesn't get better,
RIP Hesty...the music world misses you.
Paul Wheeler from Icehouse would be another. Paul Hester was such a loss.....
Totally agree! 3:50 till the end always gives me goosebumps. The guitar/drums combo is just gorgeous!
mmm I don't generally "me too", but yeah. I felt it too.
Mark Hart killed that solo, gorgeous 👍
This song gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it. Especially Mark Hart's solo on the 12 string guitar!

best version...neils voice, pauls drumming, marks lead, nick rumbling bass PERFECT
Miss these guys so much!
Simply one of the best songs of all time, this version especially.
Quite possibly the best gig ever from the best band ever
And quite possibly the best song from the gig ;)
this is beautiful
I was lucky enough to attend this concert, the sounds will remain with me for ever!one of the most amazing bands ever.
It's unfair how beautiful this man's voice is.... He's the reason i became a vocalist.
I completely agree! Love Neil's sweet, yet passionate voice. And he still sounds this amazing today.
I feel this song was much better live than it was in the studio
Cool video. I love the Tom sounds. Definitely good live.
I agree! It's got a lot more energy live. And that Mark Hart guitar solo is insane!
I really agree. I like the studio version but the live version just soars.
Absolutely an oath

Gorgeous song.
Oh Hessie how we miss you .................

Stunning
I friggin love Neil Finn. Nothing else to say
Immense. The power of this song pulled me through.

I just noticed.... a Shooting Star passes over Neils head at 3.38.. how amazing.. and how utterly appropriate....
Very powerful performance of a powerful song!

Absolutely gorgeous song!
Never heard this song before...… exceptional lead guitar by Mark Hart...so sad he is no longer in the band...awesome song...bravo
At 3_44 Neil must be thinking "this is almost it,but what a place to say cheerio to all our fans in". Fantastic song and a very powerful performance
Tears every time I watch this.
The song my youngest daughter made her way into the world with .thankyou .....
2021 and still in awe of the magic conjured here ❤️
As an Aussie thank you Kiwis for giving the world Neil Finn
A band at the peak of their powers....an absolutely sumptuous performance.....🙇🏻♂️RIP Paul 😭
One of the best bands ever 100% true Master Craftsmanship, Neil Feinn is a Genius!!

Poetry in music, lovely song
Absolutely beautiful ❤️🌈🎶🎶🎶

The look you have when you know you've just fucking nailed it @4:58
Mark Hart smashing it!!!
Must have something in my eye.
Damn these guy's were good.
Together Alone is a masterpiece.
Neil at his peak.
Paul ❤️
mesmerising
Mark Hart was a great addition to the band, it's a shame they didn't do one more album back circa 1996!
It's also a shame that Mark got fired from the band! He added A LOT. I think there will be a noticeable void in their sound without him.
@@kristeninthedirtysouth We'll just have to watch these old videos instead :)
@@kristeninthedirtysouth yep, agreed, mark was an essential part of the crowdies for decades.
@@kristeninthedirtysouth Did he get fired? I didn't know that. What happened?

Color is it's own reward
The chiming of a perfect chord
Let's go jumping overboard
Into waves of joy and clarity
Your hands come out to rescue me
And I'm playing in the shallow water
Laughing while the mad dog sleeps
And I can't look up
Fingers of love move down
And I won't be helped
Fingers of love move everywhere
And there is time yet
To fall by the way
From the cradle to the grave
From the palace to the gutter
Beneath the dying rays of the sun
Lie the fingers of love
Into waves of joy and clarity
A fallen angel walked on the sea
And I'm playing in the shallow water
Laughing while the mad dog sleeps
And I can't look up
Fingers of love move down
And I won't be helped
Fingers of love move everywhere
And there is time yet
For you to find me
And all at once
Fingers of love move down
very moving....
Farewell, Hessie.
Mark is so much better than Mitchell

Didn't Paul McCartney say that Neil was one of the best song writers, this proves the point
Like my friend Jerry Anderson, when he tested negative to syphillis and " we don't know the test wasn't done here..." TOS
Está era la banda,esos 4
I was lucky enough to see them live in 1994. I always thought nick looked much better with hair, as he did in 1993, not cut short and dyed blonde
Can someone load its lyrics video
Right?
My favorite song about masturbation. It's better than "Turning Japanese," "Dancing with Myself," and "She Bop."
