My god the Acadamy needs to create that Stunt Ensamble award already. Where’s the Oscar for stunts? They’re such an important part of filmmaking, these men women and children put their lives on the line, it seems like the least the industry can do.
It's deliberate, the Oscars don't want directors/stunt people to start doing overly dangerous stunts chasing awards and potentially dying in the process.
Jay Motiwala Not really. The Oscars are a joke at best. But I really feel like stunt people really should be paid more than they do. The are what make movies real in any way!
BayneNothos That’s a dumb excuse though. Stunt coordinators are adults who aren’t going to endanger themselves and others with more intense stunts just to win awards. They know better.
I know, they also only put her first name in the description comment. I know she mentions it in the video but people would remember the name more if it was written down. Just my opinion.
Glow is an absolute wonder. So those actresses really did come in cold. Wow. The pair you mentioned do have magic together. Every now and then you do see that. It is rare. Thanks for the video.
yeah i was a little confused for a bit when she was talking about Glow since she was talking about the actresses and didn't explain that she was a stunt coordinator for the show not a stuntwomen
Not only needs an Oscar/Emmy for Best Stunts, but also one for Best Professional Explaining Their Job On UA-cam! Utterly fantastic MasterClass descriptions, Shauna, not just of the stunts, but of the scene crafting, the character elements, just EVERY angle! This was wonderfully put together! "...and look at these socks!"
I agree, but I believe the reason there isn’t is because it incentivizes people to dangerously hurt themselves beyond reason to achieve a award such as an Oscar.
SHE'S EXPOSING THE BUSINESS! LOL seriously though, I love seeing the moves broken down like this. Really gives you an appreciation for the two people in the ring working together to make a somewhat believable looking fight.
“okay now can you a backflip off of this table in stilettos and I’m gonna have her step underneath you but don’t hit her causes she’s like the 10 million dollars actress” 🤣 🤣
Its so awesome that she appreciates how amazing her job is. I was also amazed that the actresses were doing their own stunts on Glow, some of that stuff I wouldn't have tried, that takes guts.
1) This was absolutely fascinating and I loved every minute of it. 2) Shauna your star blouse is the cutest I want one. 3) More women in the stunt process!!!
Glow is such an amazing show. I love everyone involved. Great stunt coordinating. I honestly never thought the wrestling would be this good when I started watching.
I love how when shes talking about the invisible kick scene she just seems so done with the producers and film makers, I mean shes not annoyed or angry buts shes just there like "you want us to actually kick and get knocked out!" to the guy "shhh it's alright they'll never know the difference ;)"
Thank you for your skills in the art of stunt doubles. Kill Bill is one of my all time favorite movies. So happy to know one of the stunt doubles that contributed her skills to it.
This was amazing to see. First, her humble presentation. And then, oh my god, the things I learned about the talents and acting and timing and carefulness of this type of wrestling. What a feast, what an education.
Did the Producers of GLOW ever reach out to other female wrestlers? I would think they would reach out to Lisa Moretti (Ivory for the WWE fans) since she had actually been a part of GLOW (sh wrestled under the name Tina Ferrari).
Such an amazing woman, she should have her own tv show and/or be a Hollywood actress. She's extremely beautiful and her voice is so sweet and she talks so well, plus she does her own stunts he he. I love her.
6:02 the best referees are when You Don't See Them(but pro wrestling refs are the Equivalent of AD's on a Film Set,but in a ring it's happening like live Theatre ,cause that's what it Is(ok I'll stop now😅)
13:40 ok one more it's called "Calling a Spot" but I gotta admit, for a non-fan of Pro Wrestling this is good crash course ,ever though there's a lot more skill in being a good worker(Wrestler)
Look into the stunt register and see what skills you need. There are courses you can go on to train you to the standard that you need to be at. Good luck.
The complaints about the Oscars not having a stunt person category would be valid if the Oscars wasn’t a prestige film award. There aren’t very many stunts in the typical Oscar bait film, as most aren’t action or stunt heavy pieces. Also, stunt actors are supposed to blend into the woodwork as the stand in or a lead actor. Not only is their whole purpose to make us believe they don’t exist, Hollywood very rarely honors its craftsmen at the Oscars.
I agree with everything you've wrote. And although I'd love stunt people to get more recognition, I would like it to be in a different form than an award show. And yes, I know there is one, Taurus, which, unfortunately, I only watched once long ago. I just don't understand how you can rate one stunt better than all others. Actually, that goes for many awards, including acting. This is simply not something you can measure, so I find these videos and similar ones the most interesting and viewer-friendly way to spread the word.
Oddly enough, that would not be the first time RDJ's been knocked out by someone during a stunt. Robert Maillet, Dredger in Sherlock Holmes, clipped him during one of their fight scenes. The helmet no doubt would have been worse, I'll admit. Also, interesting note and related to the conversation, Robert Maillet was a wrestler in the 90s. Her understanding of wrestling is great and was my favorite part of the video.
This is just an amazing video. I felt like you were literally teaching me about how you coordinate the stunts and what needs to be though of to make it entertaining, fun and safe. So much respect for you and your profession. Thank you for entertaining us all. Vanity Fair thank you for giving Shauna a voice.
Now Shauna and Alicia Vela-Bailey must face each other in single combat to see who is the superior Hollywood Stuntwoman Breaks Down Her Career in Stunts
Here's how humble Shauna is: that Charlie's Angel aerial won her a World Stunt Award. Their version of an Oscar. Didn't even mention it.
@Peter Lustig Geez. Maybe you don't care. But that doesn't mean no one else does.
@Peter Lustig uh, most people watching this video probably care some. otherwise they wouldn't be interested in a video about stunts.
That’s awesome
@Hassan Forrest No one cares
My god the Acadamy needs to create that Stunt Ensamble award already. Where’s the Oscar for stunts? They’re such an important part of filmmaking, these men women and children put their lives on the line, it seems like the least the industry can do.
So much respect for this profession. The fact that there’s no Oscar category for stunts is an atrocity.
Jay Motiwala truly
It's deliberate, the Oscars don't want directors/stunt people to start doing overly dangerous stunts chasing awards and potentially dying in the process.
Jay Motiwala Not really. The Oscars are a joke at best. But I really feel like stunt people really should be paid more than they do. The are what make movies real in any way!
Khrashing Phantom did you just call the oscars a joke... it’s the biggest award show for films lmao
BayneNothos That’s a dumb excuse though. Stunt coordinators are adults who aren’t going to endanger themselves and others with more intense stunts just to win awards. They know better.
I love hearing people who love their job talk their passion.
Gotta be one of the top 5 secrets of life right? Have good relationships, stay healthy and eat good food, do what you love and love what you do... etc
Ikr! I don't even care about stunts, but her passion made me fall in love with it.
Really impressed that the actors in Glow are doing the moves themselves. I always thought it was doubles for the big lifts.
It's a shame that stuntwork isn't recognized by the Oscars. These people literally RISK THEIR LIVES for the ENTERTAINMENT of others!
whamburglar if stunts counted for oscars people would go above and beyond to win, that would put more people in high stakes and dangerous situations
@@cameron3038 That's the dumbest response and excuse. They already have the high stakes to surpass other film stunts.
The studies want the people to think that that actors are doing the action to make the scene seem more real
Hey VF, put Shauna Duggins' name in the title. I get that she's not a well known name but she deserves it.
Maybe because it's said in the first second of the video it's not needed?
@@mychaeljones7526 I think having the name in the title gives the proper respect to her and her craft, now it just looks a bit clickbaity.
@strelokblyat calm down, triggered pussyfart
I know, they also only put her first name in the description comment. I know she mentions it in the video but people would remember the name more if it was written down. Just my opinion.
@@reemtri a lot of people enjoy it here, wasn't sure
🍍🍕🍍🍕🍍🍕🍍🍕🍍🍕🍍🍕
Glow is an absolute wonder. So those actresses really did come in cold. Wow. The pair you mentioned do have magic together. Every now and then you do see that. It is rare. Thanks for the video.
8:30 "there was concrete below me" lord my blood just went cold lmao
Title should be “Shauna Duggins, a Hollywood stunt woman, breaks down her career in stunts”
yeah i was a little confused for a bit when she was talking about Glow since she was talking about the actresses and didn't explain that she was a stunt coordinator for the show not a stuntwomen
was looking for this comment!

Gavin Smith the Emmys do have stunt categories. Shauna has won it twice for GLOW
She's so sweet and it shows that she really enjoys what she does!
Oh Boii !! We urgently need an Oscar category for best stuntman anddd Stuntwoman!
I agree, but I believe the reason there isn’t is because it incentivizes people to dangerously hurt themselves beyond reason to achieve a award such as an Oscar.
She is such a badass yet she sounds so sweet and gentle.
When she said "I think they just want to screw with you sometimes to see if you'll say yes" I laughed out loud...that was hilarious.
I get that it's dangerous though, it was just the way she said it.
SHE'S EXPOSING THE BUSINESS! LOL seriously though, I love seeing the moves broken down like this. Really gives you an appreciation for the two people in the ring working together to make a somewhat believable looking fight.
I was literally saying this out loud when I saw your comment.
people been know
I read this in Jim Cornette's voice lol
“okay now can you a backflip off of this table in stilettos and I’m gonna have her step underneath you but don’t hit her causes she’s like the 10 million dollars actress” 🤣 🤣
"and then we'll release the doves"
i LOVE how much time was spent on GLOW. such a great show!!!!!!!!
also she's so badass!!! all of the other stunts were incredible to learn about!
The fact that she remembers names as well as how to break through all these actions is so fantastic
How is this lady not a star? She looks amazing, has incredible skills and obviously can act.
Its so awesome that she appreciates how amazing her job is. I was also amazed that the actresses were doing their own stunts on Glow, some of that stuff I wouldn't have tried, that takes guts.
Brilliant! GLOW is such an excellent programme. Fun, empowering, heart-wrenching and ballsy. One of my favourite shows of recent years
1) This was absolutely fascinating and I loved every minute of it. 2) Shauna your star blouse is the cutest I want one. 3) More women in the stunt process!!!
Best episode of this series yet. Shauna is a great communicator. I could watch her do this for hours.
Glow is such an amazing show. I love everyone involved. Great stunt coordinating. I honestly never thought the wrestling would be this good when I started watching.
I really appreciate how Shauna explains things
I love how when shes talking about the invisible kick scene she just seems so done with the producers and film makers, I mean shes not annoyed or angry buts shes just there like "you want us to actually kick and get knocked out!" to the guy "shhh it's alright they'll never know the difference ;)"
She’s so professional and beautiful!
Shauna is such a beautiful and positive woman! How inspiring
I love these videos. Seeing all the intricate details needed for a 2 second scene is crazy so much respect for these people
Thank you for your skills in the art of stunt doubles. Kill Bill is one of my all time favorite movies. So happy to know one of the stunt doubles that contributed her skills to it.
She is amazing!! Also i love Glow, i had no idea they did their own stunts.
I was endlessly fascinated by her. I need a whole hour or a class devoted to stuntwork that she should teach
This was SO interesting! Thank you!
This is the most interesting one of these I've seen!
This made me want to watch glow, a show I previously had no interest in haha
We need Zoe Bell on this show. An absolute legend.
it'd be an hour long and i'm completely good with that!
I love Glow - It was so nice hearing her passion for the show.
Love this series! Please do the Moneymaker sisters, or just one of them next!
omg this is giving me goosebumps!!! absolutely incredible. All of the notes are amazing but i especially love hearing about GLOW. Just amazing
To counteract the recent hate comment:...
Thank you for what you do. You're awesome.
This was amazing to see. First, her humble presentation. And then, oh my god, the things I learned about the talents and acting and timing and carefulness of this type of wrestling. What a feast, what an education.
I love how Vanity Fair uploaded this video! Thank youuu!!
"I think they screw with you just to see if you'll say yes" 😄😄
This was absolutely fascinating. I could listen to her talk forever about more experiences 😊

Wonderful, inspiring stuff! Thank you Shauna!
That was such fun to watch and listen to. I’d love more of these!
Did the Producers of GLOW ever reach out to other female wrestlers? I would think they would reach out to Lisa Moretti (Ivory for the WWE fans) since she had actually been a part of GLOW (sh wrestled under the name Tina Ferrari).
She's awesome, could listen to her forever
Congrats Shauna.

Miss you.
Stay safe and take care.

y'all, GLOW is incredible and Shauna is absolutely amazing!
Such an amazing woman, she should have her own tv show and/or be a Hollywood actress. She's extremely beautiful and her voice is so sweet and she talks so well, plus she does her own stunts he he. I love her.

So much love and respect.
This video made me watch glow. I then binge watched it all in 2.5 days.
1:57 so essentially ,you're talking about Professional wrestling, but real talk I loved that spot with you and Kelly Lynch's Double,it's Magnificent
6:02 the best referees are when You Don't See Them(but pro wrestling refs are the Equivalent of AD's on a Film Set,but in a ring it's happening like live Theatre ,cause that's what it Is(ok I'll stop now😅)

How did you enter the stunt double world I am super interested but don't know where to start?
Look into the stunt register and see what skills you need. There are courses you can go on to train you to the standard that you need to be at. Good luck.
There's a school for this.

Why do I have no recollection of the chair sword fight at the end of kill bill vol. 2?
Love this!!!!

Vanity Fair thank you for giving Shauna a voice.
How she is not a full on actress and not a stunt women is kinda sad. She's beautiful and pretty amazing, she'd be an awesome main character
You Are AMAZING !! You should have leading roles yourself - beautiful face AND stunt-capable
You should go on corridor crew
Let's make it happen.
beautiful and brave
7:16 Single Leg Boston Crab
Amazing! John Oliver did a piece on wrestling, he should do stunt people too (if he hasn't already and I've forgotten!)
Wow I had no idea there's alot of technical stuff involved just wow
THANK YOU FOR PUTTING GLOW SECOND BECAUSE I WAS ABOUT TO SKIP. ALSO SHOUT OUTS TO KIA STEVENS AKA AWESOME KONG
just wow , an experience like that is a better reward than an icon of achievement sounds beutiful
She is GORGEOUS WOAH
Now Shauna and Alicia Vela-Bailey must face each other in single combat to see who is the superior Hollywood Stuntwoman Breaks Down Her Career in Stunts
These women are amazing, they have to be as thin as the actresses but twice as strong!!
