    Thank you, thank you, thank you! My Artisan Kitchen Aid was super fast on the stir setting, from the day I purchased it, 6 or 7 years ago!! I even sent a video to Kitchen Aid showing how crazy fast it was, making it impossible to stir flour! Their response was that Artisan was “faster than other Kitchen Aid’s”🙄. All these years I’ve been manually stirring until it’s mixed well, then I turn the mixer on. I followed your video...and...it’s fixed!

    Jade & KA Parts Ltd Thanks so much for this clear and well presented video on setting the speed on a Kitchen Aid mixer. I have had mine for over ten years and had noticed over the last year or more that when starting on the stir speed it was turning too fast which made incorporating flour into other ingredients messy tossing it out of the bowl even with the shields attached. After carefully following your instructions the stir speed is spot on and the problem solved.
    Thanks again!

    Out of all the videos I watched regarding this issue, yours is the only one that specified starting measurements and speeds....the rest were just a bunch of guys scratching their heads and saying they weren't sure what they were doing. I used your method and it worked perfectly. Thanks.

    Thank you, thank you, thank you. My mixer just started going so fast, flour was flinging out at stir. I followed your video and it worked. I did notice that stir and 2 are the same speed, but I’m ok with that. It’s still too loud, but maybe it needs oiling. Again, thank you for clear directions without info I didn’t understand!

    Thank you so much. I had long detested that my stir level was too fast, way faster than my mom's KA. Easy fix!
    For anyone doing this, a 11/32" box wrench fits those nuts. For adjusting speed 6, turning the screw clockwise makes it faster. Also, while you have the tail piece off you can clean the rear vents of any clogged food matter other people in your house got in them. ;)

    Yes, the circuit interrupter on the wall kept tripping (4 times while making a banana bread). The mixer was not hot to the touch when this happened and I made sure nothing else was plugged into that outlet to prevent an over load (I have plugged a 1500 watt appliance to this outlet before without any issues).
    However, I did noticed the interrupter tripping the 4 times while switching from high to lower speeds. Just before I wrote this, I run the mixer without an attachment or bowl and the breaker did NOT trip while changing speeds. Looks like the problem is only apparent when the mixer is loaded; even if it's just a light load.

    To simplicity, upon removing the back plate, you will see those three screws, the top two control the low speed and the bottom screw the high speed, (oddly, the back pivots, so they work independently)
    So loosen the nuts on the top two, and tighten down the screws to lower the rpms of the low speed. Tighten the nuts to anchor. The bottom screw has no anchoring nut, so just make adjustment as needed. For me it was a bit hard to tell, but it was fast enough in any case, so I just snugged that screw up a bit. Super high speed only needed to get egg whites and cream started, once it starts your good anyway. Also, my model was the Heavy Duty. I hope that speeds things up for a few people. Re: somehow my stir rpms were at 102rpm, I got them to 70, than to about 50, but at that point the stir mode did not send enough current to activate, so I got it to about 60, where she said, which is a find speed to knead bread. My high speed is now at 300rpms.
    Now id like to know, can i oil or lube the insides?? Thanks

    • @KapartsCoUk
      @KapartsCoUk  2 роки тому

      It sounds like there is something else that is wrong with your mixer. Each fault usually takes a few steps to try and narrow down the potential cause. We can try to help you further if you could email us at customerhelp@kaparts.co.uk. A video would really help, especially if you can run the mixer with the rear cover off and show the control plate from sveral angles while you move the speed slowly from off to speed 4-6.

      @KapartsCoUk  3 роки тому

      It could one of many issues. If you want to help us to diagnose the fault please start by sending a video to our email address customerhelp@kaparts.co.uk In video we would like to see (and hear) the mixer as you turn it from off to the first speed (or stir) for 3 seconds. Then increase the speed slowly to max move the lever one stop every 1-2 seconds. Then return the mixer to off. If you feel comfortable doing so, please then send a second video showing the same with the end cover off. This time concentrate on the control plate and governor if you can.

    Thank you very much for the prompt reply!
    I was just going by the "dime test" to adjust the clearance of the bowl. On my other Hobbart k45ss the dime moves about an inch every turn of the paddle. On the K5ss the paddle doesn't touch the dime at all and is the reason I wanted to adjust the clearance.
    Is the K5ss supposed to have a higher clearance of bowl to paddle than the k45ss?
    Also, my outlet keeps shuting off (300 watts is probably too much), so should I be using a surge protector?
    Finally, at lower speeds (stir & level 2) the speed oscillates, which is not an issue at higher speeds.
    Is this normal on the Hobbart K5ss?
    I received my Hobbart k5ss from a friend a long time ago and I recently brought it back from storage.

    • @KapartsCoUk
      @KapartsCoUk  3 роки тому

      The dime test is a guide for tilt head mixers only. The K5ss clearance is higher not only a few millimetres. I am not sure what you mean by "shutting off". If you mean it trips an RCD or blows a fuse then it sounds like something is wrong. Some K5SS's had a thermal override which would trip if the mixer gets too hot. Do you mean this? The speed oscillation is not uncommon and is often something not quite right with the governor or speed plate. Many people live with it.

    Hi,

    Regards.

    • @KapartsCoUk
      @KapartsCoUk  4 роки тому

      If the mixer is not running at it's highest speed then it is likely that the problem is with the governor or control plate. The governor should have two weights that when the mixer spins move outwards and move the end of the governor to touch the control plate. Sometimes the governor can become damaged or the ball bearing on the end of the governor can jam and wear the control plate. The contacts at the top of the control plate are designed to lift away at different rates when the governor touches the control plate.

      It's not really a good idea to use any electrical equipment that is causing circuits to trip. If the circuit breaker fails you could risk being electrocuted. I hope that when you take it apart and clean it you will resolve the problem or be able to see where the issue is.

      Hi, if it were a 220v mixer I'd recommend looking at the RF filter but the 110v models usually don't have one. There are lots of potential reason why it might trip. Being old it may have insulation that has deteriorated or a build up of conductive material (such as worn carbon from the brushes). Usually taking the electrical components out and giving them a through inspection and clean will reveal a lot. It might be worth changing the motor brushes first as this is fairly cheap and can resolve a number of issues.

      @@zustroy HI, There is a "knocking" that is not normal. It sounds like it is coming from the front of the mixer. To work out what it is you will need to at least take the planetary off (we have other videos to show what to do, have a look at our worm gear replacement). Try the mixer without the planetary in place to check whether you need to look inside. It sounds very like it could be one of the planetary screws loose and hitting the planetary or a tooth damaged on one of the internal gears. Making sure the gears have a good amount of grease on them will also help. If you want to send photos please send them to customerhelp@kaparts.co.uk and we will do our best to help.
