I found a new contender!! The Helion Conquest 10SC XB..$99 and it's on a nice SCT chassis..Not the same chassis used in the other Conquest models ..It has about 13 inch wheelbase..I'll do a review on it in a few days.
Dude! The 6 x 18650 carrier is the selling point for me on the Arma! For real. I mean, I'm a tech guy, and I do tons of IT, and PC/laptop repairs and upgrades for people. Needless to say, I've got a butt ton of computer crap laying around, including TONS of laptop batteries. So what right? Well, pro tip, laptop batteries are essentially a bunch of 18650's in line. So.... It's take me maybe 20 minutes to come up with maybe 18 of em. I also have custom lightsabers, which run off 18650's, so I already have a big 6 pack fast charger for em. However, it does seem like that's a 1 truck pony huh? Like, upgrade to brushless motor, esc, and servo, I also gotta throw a dumbo in it too. Is there room for all that you think? This is my new divorce enducer, so I'm not really on it enough to tell from quick videos. In your opinion, the Arma isn't very good for beefing up in time?
So just noticed something odd, the ecx uses that same chassis design for the amp mt, amp db and the amp circuit. From my sons experience the 2 in 1 esc was a huge let down but once we swapped it out it was alot more fun for him
Good eye! Yes, they all have the same chassis and are pretty much the same vehicle, just with different bodies and tires. You're right that the stock electronics are not very good.
Good comparative review! The only thing I'll point out is that I think you missed the point of the Arrma battery setup. Not really meant for RC hobbyists as such, it's meant for people who are brand new to RC, and for parents of kids who want to get into RC. This system bridges the gap from toy grade to hobby grade, which makes it super simple for newbies, while still giving you the option of running a NiMh or LiPo pack. Also, if you are to run one of those packs, it actually sits down the centre of the battery tray you removed, then you slide it back in, this holds the pack in place nicely.

What about the ol trusty WLToys 12428? At $60 4x4 and now with metal drivetrain and gears? The radio seems better and the parts are easy to come by. Lots of upgrade options available and comes with a powerful 540 motor. I don't know but to me it's a no brainer.
12428 is an awesome truck for the money but even with a metal drivetrain I still constantly see people posting about broken driveshafts (even the metal ones) and fried motors or esc. I myself have a bent front cvd and blew out my ESC. I even see people posting about stripping metal gears on stock power plans 🤷 . The ECX is definitely the better trick of these and has plenty of aftermarket for it. If you can do $150 the hpi jumpshot sc is amazing
@@OmniMan_Racing yes I forgot about the central driveshaft, the stock is still plastic and is the only NEEDED upgrade I've done. The original did strip out on me in the 1st week. The metal one I have seems to be holding up fine. There's even now we'll say an upgrade to the upgrade and that's made of solid steel, and feels like a tool in hand. If I were to ever go with 3s or brushless I'll switch over to that one. Just a lot more unneeded weight for my 2s runs. I think the (dang 5 pin) servo is a little weak too and is my current project.

@@OmniMan_Racing hpi is trash for $150 just get a bandit for $160. Metal transmission and brushless ready. Best radio for the money by far best performance and quality
@@maxxdavidson7795 because the shocks are longer, and when you compress them all the way (such as landing a jump), they slam together shut because the shock tower is too short and there isn't enough room under the tower to let them compress all the way. Any idea how to access the diff in the Voltage? I need to check to see if anything is stripped. Won't move soinds like something is stripped somewhere and its not the spur or pinion. But don't see an easy way to get to it without tearing the while truck apart

Who cares if it has threaded shocks and turnbuckles when the transmission breaks left and right lol..The gears on the Voltage are BEEF and it has oil filled metal diff..The ECX has full metal transmission and diff upgrade
I think the mold of the transmission halves must be defective. As soon as you tighten them together, there is a crazy amount of drag. Probably why it melted on you.

i was thinking of installing rear extra long shocks on the front of my stampede 4x4 would that mess up the handling?
Maxx Davidson you should get a taller shock tower too. I ran a rear tower flipped on my Slash 4x4 with rear shocks on the front.

It's probably the l/r diff outdrive. 1 screw to access it (remove the screw that hold the camber link on the hub side)

BSD racing is the OEM for the Redcat so those parts fit also but gtta order online

Chief9-10 right now the Redcat is $139, the ECX is $140 and the Arrma was $139 when it first came out. Seems pretty fair.
