  • Simple spicy fried bee hoon reminds me of the packet of Bee Hoon that I used to buy from the Nasi Lemak Aunty. This recipe comes with a lot of condiments that can be easily obtained from your nearest marketplace. Ingredients & Utensils ↓
    The method of cooking that I have used in this video ensures that the noodle does not break excessively. Most of the time when I cook bee hoon the noodles break into small pieces which makes it hard to grasp with a fork or chopsticks and also less enjoyable. This time it works well and the bee hoon is cooked perfectly without much breakage. I hope you enjoy this recipe!

      Hi Dr. Klyne Smith. How nice! Now you can cook it at home, I believe it may be difficult to find this type of Fried Bee Hoon in the US. Thanks for the comment.

    I lived 5 years with Chinese people and no one ever said Bi Hun, It is Mie hun or Mie Fan, also in the Dutch Chinese restaurants (and there are a lot) it is Mie Hun or Mie Fan, in Kantonese dialect Mie Fana, by the way nice recipe.

      Hi IJsbrand Vreugdenhil, thank you for sharing 😀 I find it very interesting! In Malaysia and Singapore, this dish is commonly known as Mee Hoon, or Bee Hoon. I'm not Chinese, but I think it's due to the slight differences in pronunciation between the Cantonese and Hokkien dialects. In Malaysia, the local people use Mee Hoon and Bee Hoon interchangeably. And yes, this recipe is really delicious 😀 Hope you can give it a try!

      Thanks and in Maleysian language, Selamat Makan. Also a lot of Indonesian people in the Netherlands, so
      we are aquainted with a lot of Malaysian words, which we use in the kitchen, we allways use the Malaysian names for the herbs and spices. Most famous in the Netherlands is Mie Hun Singapore. Once I was in Malaysia, Port Dickson, 50 years ago a small town but very good passar wiith delicious food.

    Ha ha, love your real home cooking video as you included the less than perfect veggies rather than edit out. I use that brand of bee hoon too as it makes portioning easier. Somehow, i always end up with broken up bee hoon.

      Hi Pretty Catmint, Thank you. I think it's good to share with people that how long can we keep the veggies in the fridge. In my case, I suppose to cook the Choy Sum within just a few days but I total missed doing that. I had to throw half of it, my bad! I like to use this brand of Bee Hoon too so far this still the best among all that I have tried. Some tips for cooking Bee Hoon: put less water when cooking it (too prevent sogginess) and try not to stir it too often so that it won't break. If the Bee Hoon becomes soggy and we keep stirring it, it will surely break. Thank you for the comment.

    • @HomeCookingwithSomjit
      @HomeCookingwithSomjit  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Wang Meisen. Similar to soy sauce but it's sweeter and has a thicker consistency than soy sauce. It is usually used in stir-fry foods, noodles, and dips. Add a little of thick soy sauce in your stir fry dish will enhance the taste and color of food make it looks irresistible. thanks for the asking
