  • The Bounty (1984) - end credits roll
    Soundtrack by Vangelis
This is the film version of "The Bounty - End Theme"
The album version has the drum tracks lowered.
I like the 808 cowbell in this version.

This version still sends shivers down my spine, probably because it is the end credits to the film rather than a remixed soundtrack sans the glorious cowbell signature. The film itself was good albeit a little long and overblown; but yeah, the end theme is absolutely outstanding!

Bligh then navigated the 23-foot (7 m) open launch on a 47-day voyage to Timor in the Dutch East Indies. Equipped with a quadrant and a pocket watch and with no charts or compass, he recorded the distance as 3,618 nautical miles (6,701 km; 4,164 mi). He was chased by cannibals in what is now known as Bligh Water, Fiji, and passed through the Torres Strait along the way, landing in Kupang, Timor, on 14 June.[10]

Forty-seven days? I thought it was for 41 days. But who said my memory was perfect either. I recall reading a book written by William Bligh, rewritten by Jenny J. Jones and illustrated by Barry S. Davies, and published by Parragon Publishing of the U.K. In this book, I recall reading that those cannibals were chasing Bligh and his crewmates off Tofua Island; and a ship's quartermaster, John Norton, getting killed while covering the escape of the others. He had sailed with Bligh on a prior voyage. Then they made it to Timor; where the ship's botanist, David Neilson, had died. He was buried there, of course. Bligh and the others acquired a thirty-four-foot schooner which he renamed "Resource". They got some extra clothing, and said back to England, reaching it by March of 1790; but not before five other crewmates died en route.
Years earlier, I watched the 1935 movie with my mother, Fifteen years ago, I watched the 1962 movie with some friends. I wasn't especially surprised to find differences in these movies. I later on did some research on the Internet to determine how historically accurate those movies were. I also learned about the 1984 movie; and a 66-minute docudrama film made in Australia in 1933; which featured Errol Flynn as Fletcher Christian. I also learned that Flynn is a great-great-grandson of Christian. I also learned about the lost 1916 silent film, and Anna Bligh, a sixth-great-granddaughter of William Bligh, serving as Governor of the New South Wales Territory in Australia, and more. What a time that was; the mutiny and the results of it.

    • @brianvincentdoucet4273
      @brianvincentdoucet4273 3 роки тому +1

@@askhams, I don't entirely doubt that possibility; even though according to the 1984 movie "The Bounty", Bligh claims that the Bounty traveled 85 miles within 31 days in a failed attempt to go around Cape Horn. While I'm not always sure what to believe, I do consider various possibilities.

One of the best closing theme tunes from the mercurial Vangelis RIP, it's just sublime, absolutely 💯 masterful and unsurpassed.
The piano / keyboard keys is tear jerkingly sad and sentimental, reminds me of the hot summer of 1984, has that other wordly 1984 different era vibe and sound to it, when a lot of our loved one's were alive, a lot sadly gone since. I was only 8 in 1984, while I didn't have a lot back then, life was simpler, I was much happier than now, weather was better too, world was less materialistic, it was more human. This tune epitomises this for me every time.
An absolutely beautiful time it was, with a stellar cast, sublime. You'll never, ever get a better film soundtrack like this ever again, neither will you ever get a cast. Sublime.

This cinematic version of the soundtrack is quite a bit different (and better) than the version on the OST. There's cowbell (seriously) and it seems maybe an extra beat thrown in, as well as a more dynamic sound overall. I've also noticed similar differences with other films and their soundtracks.

Actually, Fletcher Christian - who was born on September 25th, 1764 in Moorland Close, Eaglesfield, Cumberland, England, Great Britain - was murdered by a gunshot on September 20th, 1793, during a skirmish between the Englishmen and the Tahitian men. Some believed that he returned to England; but further research on him makes that prospect unlikely.
You can learn more about Fletcher Christian and the Mutiny on the Bounty in Wikipedia and the external links that I've checked out. I've watched this movie and three others based on this event; and did further research in order to separate myth from fact.

As I recall, Fletcher Christian and eight other men settled on Pitcairn Island in January of 1790. William Brown, the ship's assistant botanist, died childless; having been predeceased by his Tahitian wife. Christian and the other men all had children and further descendants. Which one or more of those men do you descend from? As I recall, actor Errol Flynn (1909-1959) is a great-great-grandson of Fletcher Christian (and, if I'm not mistaken, Edward "Ned" Young; the second-last survivor of the mutineers).

Music only needs a few notes and sounds to move people deeply. It just has to be the right notes and sounds.

The percussions sucks, but the sounds of all other instruments are doing such a great job in expression and harmony even today!

      What's wrong with the percussion?

@@themoststupidpersonwhoever4891 In general there is way to less variation in sound and dynamic. The cowbell on the 1 throughout the entire song reminds me more of a metronome. It is a very, very boring drum kit and a very boring rhythm. It sounds like a placeholder that was forgotten to exchange with a "real" percussion track.
