  • These three pieces of musical majesty by Vangelis generate an awareness of the ominous force, yet serene tranquility of the sea. The vastness of the ocean surges against the coastline and reminds us that beneath the sparkling allure of the waves lies a terrible strength, ready to rise up with overwhelming power.
My photos were intertwined to accompany the themes from The Bounty and extend a visual link to the listener, so that they might immerse themselves into these sweeping measures.

I remember... Summer of 1984. Went to see this movie. The opening scene was so dark, seductive and foreboding. And the closing theme is my favorite closing theme of all time. I sat in that theater seat and listened until the theater lights came on.

Only watched this movie for the first time a few months ago. One of the best examples of how a score can enhance the quality of a film immeasurably. A bold decision to go with a synthesizer score for a period movie. And it works, boy does it work.

The music evokes many things for many people depending on life experiences. I think for those of us in our 40s that grew up in the 80s, it can really hit some emotional strings in our souls. Depending on your path in life, it could go from simple melancholy to deep dread. Visions of family members gone, perhaps even those that were not so kind, or even some event that was in fact positive, but the flow of time and the distance from those life events provoke a sadness that cannot be quenched.

The is one of the best film scores I have ever heard, it fits the film beautifully, the menace, the desire, the longing and the total hopelessness of it all. I thoroughly enjoyed the film, the acting was top notch and the scenery and cinematography were together a thing of beauty to behold. However it was because of Vangelis and this masterpiece of a film score that brought it all together. If you haven't read the book that this particular version of the film is based on I urge you to seek it out and read it, with Vangelis for company ofcourse.

First of all: I am not a composer. But I like good music, so I post my opinion here:
Composing was in that time was different, then it is now. Nowadays we got a lot of "cheap" music to please the publishers an make money. None of this will prevail over time. Instead, all good composers will always be remembered in future times. The generations to come will still be listening to Vangelis and Enricio Moricone and a few others. Just like Beethoven, Mozart and others are still valued today. I'm thankful that I was alive when Morrricione, Vangelis, and a few others released their music for the first time. It was mind blowing,,,, Thank you, Legends!

The atmosphere of the sound is hypnotic and translates well the feeling of tense unease felt by Fletcher and the crew...Also the unknown sorrow of looming tragedy that is the experience the film imbues...Finally, the passion and hope in defiance that leads to the taken opportunity to start again into the unknown. Vangelis does an amazing job conveying betrayal and courage and beauty within the themes to The Bounty. Great film and soundtrack! One of my all time favorites.

Vangelis's haunting music, a backdrop to the unfolding drama of the historic mutiny is fitting. The score was of an astounding Neptunian grandeur. Who living in these modern times would not be part of this great adventure on the high seas? The island of Tahiti, is in itself a great allure and a monumental influence on this drama. Spending six months while waiting for the breadfruit to decide its course, the sailors of the Bounty, had become additive to the enchantments and beauty of that fatal shore. Who could blame them for having a glimpse of paradise.

The brooding "boom boom boom" and the haunting cry like tones overlaid with powerfull tambourine strikes really sell the menace, sheer power and beauty of the open sea. It's a very successful piece at creating a tone of inevitability and powerlessness against the forces of nature. I listen to it often.

I believe this one of Canons finest movies together with "Runaway train" (which btw also have some amazing music for the train). I did not see this movie until 2 years ago! But instantly recognized the music as I had it from a Vangelis film music collection record from late 80s/ early 90s and I listened to way too many times!

I believe it would be near impossible for any mortal being not to be overwhelmed and overawed by the ominous and forbidding power of this music, gracefully melodic and beautifully majestic as it also is.
Amazing, though amazingly haunting, amazingly elemental, and amazingly compelling, with a strong touch of menace as well, all while conjuring up these vivid images of a vast seascape that is absolutely stunning, yet deceptively calm, deceptively gentle, and which has the tremendous power to rise up and overwhelm.
For what is powerfully evoked are these themes and feelings of utter loneliness, of despair, of heartache, of uncertainty, of barely suppressed fear, of passing days, of these whispering voices that warn and cruelly taunt, and of eerie winds that unnerve and haunt, along with, ultimately, such feelings of hope, these feelings steeped in this type of desperate hope that are evoked, of this hope that was believed to have been lost, swallowed up by the immeasurable depths of the restless, fearsome ocean.
Ah, what scenes of majestic beauty are conjured, along with scenes of this majestic menace, this majestic sense of serene desolation, of a tranquility that is only superficial, and of this deeply felt yet unspoken terror, this palpable terror alleviated only by the sight of land (preferably with palm trees, lush vegetation and this plentiful supply of loose, beautiful women).
Any ways, what a score, both magnificent and haunting, eerily reflective and ominously threatening, both otherworldly and fiercely elemental, and both of such unfathomable immensity and of this unsettling, brutal immediacy, all while featuring elements that are both of this menacing and meditative nature. Music such as this captures it all.

One evening as the sun was setting, it cast its golden light onto the shore of the islands lush jungle, while some locals burned dried palm leaves on the beach. I played this track on my headphones while the catamaran approached Soufriere harbour... Magical!

In this chaotic world, where noise often overshadows melody, you have emerged as a guiding light, a custodian of the harmony and intrinsic beauty of life. I would like to express my deep gratitude for your unwavering commitment to translating emotions into notes, landscapes into melodies, and dreams into sounds that touch the soul.
Your music has the power to transport us to distant worlds, to make us dance among stars and galaxies, to make us feel the sea breeze on our skin and the warmth of the sun on our faces. With every note, you manage to paint a vivid and vibrant picture, allowing our minds to wander freely and our souls to embrace the infinite.
You are a visionary in the truest sense of the word, a painter of sound who creates with such intense and meaningful strokes that they manage to penetrate the depths of our being. Your artistic sensibility and your ability to grasp the hidden beauty in every corner of the world are an inspiration to all who love music and art.
Thank you for gifting us with timeless masterpieces that will continue to resonate in our hearts and minds for generations to come. Your contribution to the art of music is immense and indelible, and for this, I will be eternally grateful.
    With respect and admiration,

Bligh was questioned during the trial as to why he thought he lost the Bounty. “I don’t know, ...it was the place”.
I think this is a key point overlooked, it wasn’t him, or the hard voyage getting there. The crew had tasted paradise and didn’t want to give it up.

This music, foreboding & haunting as it is, touches upon something very deep & primal, something primordial in one's essence, all while evoking this powerful sense of loneliness, of sheer isolation, of ominous uncertainty, of continuous longing, of despair, of trials unseen, of these elemental powers that could rise & overwhelm, powers that are beyond one's control, of destinies uncharted, of fates unfathomable, of unknowable terrors lurking just over the horizon, & of past lifetimes undying, all of which cast a dreadful, dreary spell, this spell that creeps into one's consciousness & organic essence, eerily, frightfully & in a deeply unsettling, primevally stirring fashion.
That is the overall effect that such music has upon me, palpably haunting as it is, unleashing something deep within my soul, something ancient, something viscerally disturbing, these primal fears that lay dormant no more, keenly felt & penetrating as they are, with strong undercurrents of foreboding roiling beneath, thus is the voyage ahead fraught with uncertainties & doubts, though also promising this mystical awakening, this spiritual realization, of divinity & hope everlasting, therefore can some solace be found deep inside.
This music stirs all of that to life. Genius as it is. And hypnotically pleasing.

every time when I listen to this majestic music, I sail on HMS Bounty together with Felcher and the Crew all the way to Matavi Bay... there is no other motion picture, which together with music tells a true story in such a substantial and sensual way. Even if the wrongdoing of mutiny itself is obvious, when I think about the length of journey they all have made, pain and suffer of sailing, beauty of nature they have explored, I begin to understand the mutiners.

By far the best cinematic production and interpretation of the Mutiny on the Bounty, including the Brando film. And I love Brando. The cinematic score clearly captures the mystery and beauty of the island of Tahiti. I have spent many years there and am still in love with the beauty and character of the land. It is both beautiful and sad simultaneously. They removed the album from ITunes and it is great to see it on UA-cam.
