Gaming is suffering from what every industries is. Late stage capitalism. Profits above all else. It's also why you're seeing so many developers get laid off yet these companies are also making BILLIONS in profits.
You have the actual workers getting canned yet executives are getting rewarded with millions of dollars for steering companies into objectively terrible decisions.
Suits and their nonstop pursuit of profits for themselves and shareholders will continue to cut as much as possible while charging consumers as much as possible and unfortunately the ones who suffer are the workers and the consumers.
A lot of people will blame consumers for the state of AAA gaming. The constant "use your wallet to vote" gets tossed around a lot, but what they never acknowledge is our wallets are not equal in "voting" power. These companies have invested huge sums of money to psychologically take advantage of people who are prone to FOMO, gambling, or any other scummy tactic used. So if one whale spends $1000s of dollars falling for these practices that justifies the shittiness we see today over 100s of people that choose to "vote" and avoid a game.
The only real solution now is to spend time finding smaller studios that are not beholden to share holders and who are driven by the art they are creating. Finding games that do not implement FOMO, gambling, or other manipulatige tactics. As far as AAA gaming goes finding those games will just become more rare IMO as time goes on.
