- “Fridays at the Front” is a collaboration between Civil War Digital Digest and the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation to bring you great history out of the Shenandoah Valley! Let’s go to the 3rd Winchester Battlefield and into it’s West Woods. This was a very bad place to be if you were a general on September 19, 1864!

Love the channel! Your channel has made me become and authentic campaigner. Also love your CS uniform series with Mr. Wambaugh. Would love to see a video on CS frocks!
Battlefield at my house…Well where it is now..Lots of artifacts found here when they were building the houses..
My 4th great grandfather, Pvt. Emery M. D. Ball (1845-1929) Company E, 14th NH Infantry was in that battle.
We love hearing about family connections and hope you enjoyed the episode.
@@CivilWarDigitalDigest I did enjoy the episode. Emery wasn't the only one who served during the war. His Father, Wilbur F. Ball (1822-1893), Company I, 3rd Vermont Infantry Regiment, 1st Vermont Brigade enlisted in 1862, and was discharged with a disability listed as malaria in 1863. Wilbur and his unit was involved in the battles of Campton's Gap, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Marye's Heights, Salem Church (aka "Bank's Ford"), Franklin's Crossing (aka "Deep Run Battle"), Gettysburg, and Funkstown.
He survived his service, and succumbed to malaria in 1893
Confederate General Rodes is an ancestor on my wife'e side.
Isn’t the place your standing first woods?
I don’t know if it’s also known as that but it’s certainly where we say it is in relation to 3rd Winchester.
Was that footage from Rosecrans Pursuit?
No. I don’t think there was an embedded video guy. The footage is from a shoot we staged this summer to have more and better quality images to work with.
