I wrote this for my daughter that is Marian Catholic Out of 500 high schools across the country that decided to throw in there bid to win the Band Of America these are the 12 best in the nation last night. I gave a speech about 15 years ago to a group of young 8 - 9 year old football player...s called COACHES DON'T TEACH SPORTS THEY TEACH LIFE. Oh how so true. Band teachers and all teachers are also coaches. They teach our kids about responsibility about respect about studying. About hard work and discipline. They teach them about reading sheet music and playing the notes. Not just right but perfect. They march not to a different drum but to the bands drum. They teach them skills and being on time. About organizing and teamwork and friendship in treating each other right. And about what if feels like to win and what if feels like to when they don't. And during all this. The kids still have homework. They teach them so much. I am so proud of Jennifer. Yeah she's down there somewhere. See her? She's in black. But as amazing as it was to see all those kids they're more then just 'kids'. They were 15 years old and 16 and 17. They were entertainers and performers and singers and dancers. They all look like our future leaders to me. Everyone of those kids left yesterday in amazement when they looked up in the stands and see thousands of parents and grandparents and sisters and brothers and friends cheering them on from all over the country. They were from Illinois and Indiana and Texas. How about Ohio and California and Georgia. There were people that were cheering and hollering and yahooing. Oh, I'm so certain there were some tears of joy and sheer pride of there child there brother and there sister. There we no losers last night. There were only champions.
All the dedication, commitment, passion, and hard work that all us band members did for 3 months only for a 11 minute show is a true achievement, we have worked our butts off to entertain people with our talent. This is what we love, there will be some few mistakes at the beginning, but as you keep going, you get more better, you make new friends. I made new friends while I was at Indiana, from Blue Springs to The Woodlands. They are all nice people, just keep doing what you love, never give up. Those bands do all of the great stuff, there's so much professional talent on those fields and in our school, and yet I haven't heard anything on the news about BOA or Grand National championships. I'd rather see this than a lot of things I see on TV these days.
I was in the Independence High School of San jose California, Class of 84, i have to say i truly miss all those days of extreme hard work, i know what it takes and can say these competitions are best times i will remember of my high school life enjoy them and never forget that you have the drive and determination to do anything
I am so proud to be in the round rock high school marching band and that I live in a state where the level of competition is as hard as it is and so humbled that every body loves our uniform
I saw me!! So proud to be part of Walled Lake Central Marching Band. We've had an amazing season, so proud of us all for making semis, and loved all the finalist bands!! Nationals had so many great bands, I honestly loved them all. Very good job to you guys, and congrats to The Woodlands for winning grand nationals! You guys were fantastic(:

I think these kids had the same feeling I had when I stepped onto the field at where ever their finals were when I was going onto the field for my small high school band at darling stadium in hampton. (warhill highschool) It doesn't really matter than I'm lower than they are, we all have a communal finals night. We all shed tears, we all wanna cry, we all love each of the band members, we all have tour goggles and spill little bits of sugar from funnelcakes or crumbs from chick-fil-a on our bibbers, worship some tradition figure (for us, it's a panda head named "Megeegaleegahn") or say our director is the best, or that our show is the best, or that it was ripped off. We all share one communal thing together, though. Not every band has a finals night at a big stadium...some just have one in their school. Not every band finishes the season with an average score of 95. But we all do one thing. We march. We march, we play, and we travel. All of us. So, next time anyone thinks their band isn't able to even look at these guys or groups in DCI, just remember; these are your brothers and sisters. Unless, of course, you're in the cavies....then it's just brothers.
Would love to be in one of these bands one day. *sigh* sadly my band is only AA and we just are not at that level yet. Oh well. Congrats to the stellar bands that made.
1:54 Go Boiling Springs! I loved how happy we were just for making semi-finals for the first time. Everyone was crying and calling their parents when they called our name. It was a good year, but I hope to blow it out of the water this year. Also, darn Blue Springs for having a name so close to ours... We got trolled several times ._.
What makes me mad is BOA's scoring guides... You have 36 bands in Semi Finals and 12 in finals. So if it goes up to 4a (like this year) shouldnt the top 2 in each class make it and the other 4 are randomly chosen...

Preston Coomer Dang! Well at least you guys got into semi finals though! :) we were about 1 point or 1.1 points from getting into semis to be exact. Although I found out that we'll be going to the super regional in St.Louis also!!
I think it should just be the top 30 whatever bands period of prelims make semis and then the top 12 of semis make finals. Because, for example, my band outscored three bands in prelims that went on to semis because they went on thursday instead of friday like we did.
Most/all the songs used in the Montages are pulled from one of those websites that offer free-to-use sound bytes/tracks. I know this because I recognized one of the tracks from the 2006 Montage in a music insert for my local news station. I contacted their media people and they told me they got it from a free music distribution site (couldn't tell you the name of the site, that was quite a while ago).

That's a good point...although funny thing was, my band was 37th in prelims, WE WERE SO CLOSE TO SEMI FINALS!! haha
